People may like to visit the Eiffel Tower because it is a world - famous landmark. It has become a symbol of Paris, and people want to see this iconic structure in person.
The Eiffel Tower was the tallest building in the world when it was completed in 1889. In fact, it was the tallest building in the world for 41 years and is still the tallest tower in Paris today. The Eiffel Tower is the first building made completely of iron, a new building material at that time.
The tower is 330 meters tall. It took nearly 300 people about two years to build this wonderful tower. The tower is painted every seven years, but it takes between 18 months and over three years to finish each time because it is painted mostly by hand. Every year almost seven million people visit the tower. Some people take the lift and go up to the top of the tower to enjoy the view of the city. But if you don't want to wait for the lift or if you want to get some exercise, you can walk up over 1600 steps to the top. Many interesting things have happened inside the tower. In 1948, an elephant walked up to the first floor. In 1983, two men went up and down the stairs on motorcycles.
