Last October I was on a diving holiday in the Philippines with seven other advanced divers.
I dived off the boat slowly sinking to about 20m.
After nearly 45 minutes, the sound of my breathing was drowned out by a low rumble like an engine and I felt deep powerful vibrations (震动) as if a big boat was passing overhead. The
instructor and I both swam next to each other, staying close to the side of the reef (礁石), because the situation felt extremely sinister.
Then the vibration, became so intense that I could feel it in my bones and then the sound
turned into a deafening roar. Suddenly, a few meters below us, breaks began forming and the sand was sucked down. That’s when I got what it was. The noise was the sound of the earth splintering open and grinding against itself.
The instructor and I held hands and looked into each other’s eyes, and I felt comforted by his presence. My body went on high alert, ready to react. But I had no power over whatever this was. The only option was to stay very still and let it do whatever it’s going to do.
It took enormous willpower to resist the urge to swim to the surface, which was not sensible as the situation on the surface at that time was ambiguous with potential threats pending. Soon we
saw other divers.
The sound and vibration lasted only two or three minutes. We all held hands to avoid
decompression sickness (潜水病), which can be fatal. When up, it was a huge relief to see all the divers safe.
Back on the boat, we rushed to check the news and discovered we had witnessed a huge
earthquake, measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale. It released more energy than 30 Hiroshima bombs, though it seemed that we were not at the epicenter (震中). I was high and felt extremely lucky not because of my recent survival miracle, but to have experienced nature at its most stunning and its most frightening moment.
24 .The underlined word in the second paragraph is closest in meaning to ________.
A .urgent B .dangerous C .confusing D .harmonious
25 .Why didn’t the author rise to the surface before the vibration stopped
A .Because he was very afraid of big waves.
B .Because he had lost all the strengths to swim.
C .Because he tried to avoid unexpected danger above.
D .Because he could sense the unclear water situation.
26 .Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage
A .At the beginning of the event, a big boat passed by causing big vibration.
B .All the divers used the reef as the protection against the violent vibration.
C .Powerless to fight nature, all the divers tried to cooperate and help each other.
D .I felt relieved as the instructor was experienced in handling situations like this.
27 .Why did the author feel fortunate on the boat
A .Because he could witness a rare natural phenomenon.
B .Because he finally survived a huge earthquake.
C .Because he was not at the epicenter of the earthquake.
D .Because he didn’t suffer from decompression sickness.

Is there a single word that motivates us more than “weekend” It’s like the promise of a
sweet holiday following what seems like long-time exhaustion. It’s the spring in our step that gets
bouncier with each passing day — until by Friday, we’re practically bumping our heads against the ceiling.
The trouble is that the weekend is a rip-off. You think you’re getting 48 hours of
unconditional downtime, but reality takes a discount. In fact, it takes most of Sunday. That’s when anxiety comes creeping in and another countdown begins: 12 hours until Monday. Sure, the
weekend is free time. But the mounting stress of an incoming Monday can ease any joy you might get from a Sunday evening.
That feeling is so common among the Monday-to-Friday crowd that there’s even more than one name for it: the Sunday Scaries, or Sunday Fear Syndrome. Going from a countdown to the
weekend to a countdown to Monday can be difficult. Even — a website that specializes in binding humans to the Monday-to-Friday cycle — admits it’s a problem. In a survey, Monster found that 76% of Americans have “really had” Sunday night blues.
For most people, Sunday is no holiday at all. It may all come down to the same problem: We can’t stop thinking about tomorrow. Even worse, we may develop some downright unhealthy coping strategies for that transition from weekends to Monday. Some might resists — staying up late, milking every minute of a fleeting Sunday in the form of mind-numbing distractions.
But why should Monday cast such a long and fearful shadow on our lives Maybe it’s
because the counter is reset and the weekend, or happiness, seems at furthest point. If, like most of us, you have a tolerable job, but don’t much like the whole idea of working, there are plenty of
ways to make Mondays a little less stressful. Most importantly, don’t leave any unsettled Friday business hanging over the weekend. So, clear the decks and tie up loose ends.
28 .What do we know about the weekend in Paragraph 2
A .It is hard-earned.
B .It doesn’t bring joy as expected.
C .It adds to people’s anxiety and stress.
D .It provides good time to relax.
29 .Why does the writer mention in the text
A .To clarify a question. B .To show its popularity.
C .To provides an illustration. D .To support his idea.
30 .What does the writer think of the way most people spend the weekend
A .Tolerant. B .Conservative. C .Unwise. D .Practical.
31 .Which of the following is the best title for the text
A .Why People Are Stressed Out on Fridays
B .Why Monday Takes a Bite out of Sunday
C .Why a Countdown to the Weekend Is Difficult
D .Why Monday Casts a Fearful Shadow on Our Lives

What did people do for fun before smartphones and computers were invented After
conducting research, I learned that Cantonese opera (粤剧) was the top form of entertainment in China for centuries. With singing and spoken lines delivered in the Cantonese dialect, Cantonese opera is one of several operatic types born in Guangdong province.
To learn more about the art form, I spoke with Lui Hung-kwong, program director of the Cantonese Opera Academy of Hong Kong. He’s also a well-known performer. Here is something from our conversation.
From the 19th century through the early 20th century, opera troupes (剧团) would perform along the Pearl River Delta in southern China. They lived on boats that were painted red and
transported them to various temple festivals during the performance season. A troupe typically stayed in a city for a few days, performing different plays each day. By the 1930s, the major
performing places for Cantonese opera had moved to big cities, and more convenient forms of transportation began to be used. As a result, the red boats began to disappear.
In each opera production, the story is told through the “four basic skills” of singing, acting, delivery of spoken lines and martial arts. These are improved by stage makeup, costumes, props and the beats on gongs and drums. The performance is a mix of literature, drama, ballad singing, dance and martial arts.
Cantonese opera is supposed to mirror real life. Older generations read the old stories, and listened to them on the radio. It was like pop culture to them. But our lives today differ greatly
from the stories told in the opera. So Cantonese opera begins to tell some themes that will interest kids today. For example, a fairy fails an exam and is forced to come to the earth, where she must learn from human children.

____36____ People who value deep connections may find small talk insufficient for
building meaningful relationships. But is it really the case Actually, small talk can serve as a
stepping-stone if used properly. If the aim is to use small talk to forge stronger bonds with others, we need to pay attention to the type of information we munication research divides

At the most basic level of conversation, we share facts. We talk about things and their place in time and space, exchange news and facts, and report on our experiences factually and

from the personal level invites the other person to connect with you at this deeper level.
____39____ To engage at this level, we can focus on the here and now. Ask yourself
questions like: What’s happening now How am I feeling at this moment How do you feel being here with me When we bring our attention to the present moment, we often experience greater
engagement and connection with others. ____40____ This brings our attention to the many aspects of our present-moment experience and lets another person into our inner world.
As we progress through these different levels of conversation, we can get a sense of how the experience of intimate (亲密的) connection with another person deepens.
A .I just came from London.
B .I find my work rewarding.
C .It has nothing to do with oversharing.
D .It can be quite useful, but it lacks emotional content.

Although I am a girl, I can say I am a true fan of soccer games, for it is definitely one of the best ways to get away from my tiring work temporarily and have fun. Therefore, the moment I got the news that there would be a game between our home team against the Team from London City, immediately I booked a seat at the front row, wishing to have a fantastic weekend.
I had a great mood when I got seated in the stadium. However, as the game began, I spotted that in front of me sat a guy, who looked quite nice. But maybe his idea of having fun was nothing like mine, or most normal well-behaved fans, such as standing and yelling, non-stop, as loud as he could. He yelled at the coaches, at the players, at the London City’s fans, and even at the officials present, always at the top of his lungs.
He kept his action for the entire 45 minutes and never showed any sign of tiredness.
Obviously he was so absorbed in the game that he failed to notice he was ruining the experience of hundreds of others.
With him yelling by me, my ear drums almost got broken, for his mouth was so close to my ears. For a while, I even thought of shouting back at him and stopping his yelling. People around were turning to look at him, and I could read their thoughts, “Is he never going to stop ” But He
seemed blind to those looks.
At half-time, I escaped by walking for a few minutes outside the stadium. I was thinking of

seeking an empty seat in the student section across the stadium, but to my disappointment, the seats were all taken. I had no choice but to go back to the guy.
To make matters worse, when returning to my seat, I missed my steps and fell heavily on the stairs. As I was struggling to stand up, a pair of huge hands helped me from behind.

于是,我们将 Harbin Ice and Snow Festival 部分中 的 Time: January 5 to February 5 标识出来,作为第 1 小题的答案依据。

After nearly 45 minutes, the sound of my breathing was
drowned out by a low rumble like an engine and I felt deep powerful vibrations (震动) as if a big boat was passing overhead. The instructor and I both swam next to each other, staying close to the side of the reef

It took enormous willpower to resist the urge to swim to the surface, which was not sensible as the situation on the surface at that time was ambiguous with potential
根据第六段“The sound and vibration lasted only two or three minutes. We all held hands to avoid decompression sickness (潜水病), which can be fatal. When up, it was a huge relief to see all the divers safe.(声音和震动只持续了两三分钟。我们都手拉手,以避免可能致命的潜水病。浮到水面后, 看到所有潜水员都安然无恙,我松了一口气)”可知,由于无力与自然抗争,所有的潜水员都努力合作,互相帮助。故选 C。
27 .细节理解题。根据最后一段“I was high and felt extremely lucky not because of my recent survival miracle, but to have experienced nature at its most stunning and its most frightening
故选 A。

Even — a website that specializes in binding
humans to the Monday-to-Friday cycle — admits it’s a problem. In a survey, Monster found that 76% of Americans have “really had” Sunday night blues.(就连 ——一个专门将人

根据倒数第二段“For most people, Sunday is no holiday at all. It may all come down to the same problem: We can’t stop thinking about tomorrow. Even worse, we may develop some downright unhealthy coping strategies for that transition from weekends to Monday. Some
might resists — staying up late, milking every minute of a fleeting Sunday in the form of

67 .I looked back and saw the guy’s smiling face and concerned eyes. I expressed my thanks to
him genuinely for his kind and timely help, after which we started our chatting. We introduced
each other and talked of our hobbies, including our great interest in soccer. He told me his work
was also quite tiring and that he needed to release the stress by yelling it out, adding that he
wished we wouldn’t care about his rudeness in doing so. Feeling quite uneasy for what I had done, I realized that everybody has his own way of living and that we should be more considerate and
understanding. Therefore, I gave him a certain answer, “No, I should learn from you.”
The guy kept his shouting for another 45 minutes, completely involved in the game again.
Seeing his great passion, I couldn’t help yelling along with him, enjoying the game and releasing my pressure as well. What we did inspired the fans around us, causing their shouting too, at the top of their voice. It seemed that all the players had heard our shouting too and they played even harder than before. What a close and exciting game! All the people cheered up and behaved so
perfectly. It was an unforgettable experience and I made up mind to watch a new game the next weekend.
