Cecilia Blomdahl is nothing less than a social media star, with nearly 4. 7 million followers. Her most popular TikTok video of Svalbard, a Norwegian island near the North Pole, has 3.7
million views.
Originally from Sweden, Cecilia moved to Svalbard in 2015. Today, she lives in a small house outside Longyearbyen, the world’s northernmost town, with her husband Christ offer and their dog Grim.
Her social media journey began when she started posting content online about everyday life in Svalbard. She says, “When I first moved to Svalbard, I didn’t even own a camera and had no
interest in photography. I bought my first drone (无人机) after a few months, mainly because it seemed fun. That was my starting point for content creation.” She was immediately attracted by the views of Svalbard from above, such as walruses (海象) floating on blocks of ice.
Cecilia gained a small following at the beginning by posting photos of Svalbard, but it
really took off thanks to one TikTok video. She says, “One day during the polar night, I was
walking Grim with Christoffer. It was 3 p. m. with northern lights dancing above us. I found what seemed to be polar bear tracks, so I made a short TikTok video and went to bed.” The next day,
she woke up to find 600,000 views and thousands of new followers. That TikTok video became popular, attracting over half a million followers within just a week. From that point, she treated posting online like a job, putting her all into it.
“I think the fact that Svalbard is fairly unknown makes people curious,” she explains. “It’s an exciting place. Every day feels like an adventure. Although I had planned to stay only for a few months, I was attracted by its beauty and eventually fell in love with its way of life.”
What makes Svalbard exciting, however, also makes it difficult at times. The seasons are extreme, with three months of complete darkness during the polar night and four months of

What’s the secret to a thriving garden Sunlight and water, of course. And, it turns out that another surprising ingredient can help grow happy, healthy plants: music!
According to a study published in Frontiers in Plant Science, music has the potential to stimulate plant growth, and even the type of music can have a different impact on plants. The sound vibrations (振动) may stimulate cellular (细胞的) processes like nutrient transport that encourage healthier plants.
Plants don’t hear sound like humans do, but they can feel vibrations from sound and
respond positively to certain types of music, according to a study published in Nature. The study showed that plants exposed to music grow faster, with taller stems, larger blooms, and healthier
试卷第 6 页,共 14 页
leaves.
As for plants’ favorite music, “Gardening guru” Chris Beardshaw found that playing heavy metal music, like Black Sabbath, boosts plant growth, producing shorter plants with larger, more disease-resistant flowers.
Beardshaw conducted a greenhouse experiment comparing music types. He discovered that classical music slightly improved growth, while rock and roll singer Cliff Richard’s music led to plant dying. The loud, rhythmic energy of heavy metal music proved most effective for blooms,
suggesting an unexpected link between head-banging music and plant health.
Overall, findings seem to demonstrate that plants prefer more rhythmic types, especially classical and heavy metal. According to the garden company Moana Nursery, classical music seems to work wonders to keep stomata (气孔) open longer, enhancing air intake. Heavy metal music appears to stimulate even greater growth.
However, understanding plants’ music preference can be tricky. It can depend on all sorts of variables like plant types, music styles, and environmental factors. Some critics add that more research with stricter controls needs to be done in order to establish a connection between music and plant growth. The improvements in plant health observed during these studies could also be caused by better plant care and attentive behavior from caretakers.
28 .What is the study published in Frontiers in Plant Science about
A .Sunlight and water are key to gardens.
B .Healthy plants lie in happy caretakers.
C .Plants listening to music grow better.
D .Cellular growth is from sound vibrations.
29 .What does “Gardening guru” Chris Beardshaw’s research focus on
A .What type of music plants prefer.
B .When heavy metal music is played.
C .Whether plant growth can be boosted.
D .How shorter plants produce larger flowers.
30 .How did Chris Beardshaw make the discovery
A .By comparing former records. B .By listening to various music types.
C .By analyzing music and plant health. D .By making a greenhouse experiment.
试卷第 7 页,共 14 页
31 .What do we know from the last paragraph
A .Better plants only result from playing music.
B .More factors contribute to plant improvements.
C .Certain plant types prefer certain music styles.
D .Plants’ music preference comes down to a joke.

“Zero distractions.” That’s what Cal Newport, author of Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World, says is required to have a session of focused productivity he calls “deep work.”
Are zero-distraction moments even available to most ofus these days After all, every
technical innovation that makes our lives more convenient, like phones and apps and streaming
entertainment, is built for a multi-tasking lifestyle. Listen to music. Add to your grocery list. Press “buy” on an online shopping cart. Reserve a table for this weekend. All of these are things many of us do at the same time — and all too often while we’re doing something else, like working.
Newport described the snags ofthis lifestyle in an interview with The New York Times:
“Every time you switch your attention from one target to another and then back again, there’s a
cost. This switching creates an effect that psychologists call attention residue (残留), which can
reduce your cognitive (认知的) capacity for a substantial amount of time before it clears. If you
constantly make ‘quick checks’ of various devices and inboxes, you essentially keep yourself in a state of persistent attention residue, which is a terrible idea if you’re someone who uses your brain to make a living.”
Instead of moving quickly from activity to activity, Newport urges us to actively make time for “deep work” every day, time when we are engaged in cognitively challenging tasks without
interruption from anything else. This could be knitting or reading or learning a language or
meeting a professional goal. The important part is that it needs to be an activity you can commit to investing your energy in wholeheartedly.
Getting in the habit of working deeply will, says Newport, lead you to the unavoidable conclusion that “concentration is a super power.” What in your life would you like to approach with a “deep work” mentality

33 .What does the underlined word “snags” mean in paragraph 3

C .Listening to music while working. D .Balancing multiple activities effectively.
35 .Which of the following could be the best title for the text
A .Multitasking: A Modern Lifestyle B .The Challenges of Zero Distractions

When I was chosen by my headteacher to present our class project at the annual school event on behalf of my class, I felt both honored and anxious. Speaking in front of such a large audience had always been my biggest fear. Although the project, which focused on reducing

plastic waste on campus, meant a lot to all of us, I was still worried that my nervousness would ruin everything.
During the first practice session, I struggled to get through the speech. My voice shook, and I mispronounced several words. Worse still, I forgot some key points, which left me feeling both frustrated and embarrassed. Seeing my struggle, my best friend Lily volunteered to help. Every
afternoon, she stayed with me after school, patiently listening to my rehearsals and giving
suggestions. “Take it slow. You’re doing better each time,” she would say, encouraging me with her calm smile. Slowly, I began to feel more confident.
A week before the event, our headteacher organized a full rehearsal in the auditorium.
Standing on the huge stage made my stomach flip, and I felt as if the bright lights were burning my face. Halfway through the speech, I completely lost track of my lines and froze in panic. My heart was pounding, and I thought I would never continue. Just then, I noticed my classmates in the front row, smiling and mouthing, “You can do it!” Their warm support helped me regain
focus, and I managed to finish the rehearsal, even if it wasn’t perfect.
The night before the event, I lay in bed, filled with worries about everything that might go wrong. I imagined forgetting my lines, stumbling over words, or even tripping on the stage. The next morning, just before I stepped onto the stage, Lily quietly slipped a small note into my hand. It read simply, “We believe in you.” Her words made my heart race, but in a good way. I realized that I wasn’t alone — I had the support of my friends and classmates, and that gave me courage.注意:

2 .请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
As I stepped onto the stage, a wave of nervousness washed over me.

they distribute bikes overseas, they don’t give them away for free. In order to continue operating they need to have a constant supply of bikes which they send out every six months. In August
2000, they simply ran out of money. It was a terrible situation. Fortunately, in October 2001 they won an Enterprise Award which helped them enormously.
Dan Pearman is the founder of Pedal Power. He got the idea of exporting bicycles to developing countries while he was in Ecuador. Dan Pearman went there in 1993 and he joined a voluntary
organization. Where Dan Pearman lived in Ecuador was a rural area. His neighbor had the only
bicycle in the village, whereas everyone else walked everywhere. His neighbor’s business was
very successful. For years Dan Pearman couldn’t understand why. Then he realized having a bike meant his neighbor could reach anywhere he liked without much trouble. Other local carpenters could only accept jobs nearby, so no matter how skilled they were, they could never do as many jobs as his neighbor. When he returned to the UK in 1998, he started planning Pedal Power.

As I stepped onto the stage, a wave of nervousness washed over me. Reminding myself of Lily’s note and my classmates’ support, I took a deep breath and began speaking about our project — how we organized campus clean-ups, encouraged students to use reusable bottles, and reduced plastic waste. As I spoke, I noticed the audience leaning forward, listening carefully. The teachers nodded, some smiling, and even younger students seemed inspired. With each sentence, my
confidence grew, and the fear that had seemed so overwhelming began to melt away.
When I finished, the auditorium erupted with applause. I looked at my classmates and Lily, and we all cheered together. Later, several students came up to me, saying they felt inspired by my speech and wanted to join our project. That moment taught me an important lesson: courage isn’t about never being afraid — it’s about taking action in spite of fear. From then on, I promised
myself to face challenges boldly, knowing that support, determination, and a positive attitude could make even the impossible possible.
