I’ve always been an adventurer. As a kid in Hackney, London, I wandered around the
streets. In my 20s, I hiked through the Americas. After returning to Liverpool and working as a photographer, I settled down. However, when my relationship ended, I was heartbroken but
decided to return to my adventurous roots. In 2016, I began a 1,000-mile trip by myself through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, mostly on foot.
Travelling slowly allowed me to connect with people from all walks of life. In the UK, I
struggled to make such connections, but abroad, my foreignness drew people to me. For my next
adventure — a five-month walk across the UK — I decided to bring a donkey (驴) to make myself more approachable. I found a donkey named Martin from a local farm. After seven months of
training, we set off on a 700-mile journey from Cape Wrath in the Highlands to Dorset.
The journey was incredibly arduous. The west Highlands were hilly, full of bogs (沼泽地),
试卷第 4 页,共 12 页
and filled with biting insects. For the first six weeks, I felt out of my depth and often questioned whether I should continue. There were moments of depression, like when Martin refused to cross a bog, leaving me feeling both angry and guilty. However, I kept going, walking through paths, rivers, and roads.
People everywhere were happy to see us, offering help, food, and places to camp. Martin
became a conversation starter, making it easier for me to connect with others. This journey
restored my faith in people and taught me that worrying doesn’t solve anything. I also learned that building trust with Martin made our journey more enjoyable. By putting Martin’s needs before my own, he became more affectionate, and we formed a strong bond.
When I returned home, I bought Martin. He still lived on the farm, but I paid his keep and continued to visit him regularly. We’ve done more walks together since then. This journey not
only allowed me to explore the UK but also led to a lifelong friendship with a donkey named Martin.
24 .What made the author decide to return to an adventurous life
A .The desire to travel abroad. B .The conclusion of a relationship.
C .The success of a previous hike. D .The influence of childhood adventures.
25 .Why did the author bring a donkey on the UK walk
A .To carry his heavy luggage.
B .To make the journey more interesting.
C .To have a companion in the long journey.
D .To make himself more accessible to others.
26 .What does the underlined word “arduous” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A .Challenging. B .Fantastic. C .Boring. D .Leisurely.
27 .What did the author realize about human-donkey relationships
A .Trust and prioritizing the donkey’s needs are essential.
B .Donkeys require strict training to follow commands.
C .Donkeys are more affectionate than other animals.
D .Relationships with donkeys are harder to build than with humans.

Dr. Jewell Parker Rhodes is a pioneering creator in children’s literature who tackles
significant issues like social inequality for a young audience. Dr. Rhodes’s choice of audience — younger readers — is the first step that makes her successful. As Dr. Rhodes said, “I see children’s love. I see children’s empathy, their compassion for one another.” Younger readers have no
prejudice, and therefore would respond to the social injustice in her books without judgment.
Her success is largely due to a writing style tailored for children. She uses simple,
conversational language with abundant dialogue, making her narratives highly accessible and
engaging. Additionally, she integrates appealing fantastic elements such as mermaids (美人鱼)and ghosts, which draw young readers and encourage them to explore the deeper themes within her
books. In Ghost Boys, the black character Jerome is fatally shot by a police officer while playing with a toy gun, a tragedy arising from racial prejudice. These narratives reveal systemic injustice and inspire crucial discussions among young readers.
Notably, Rhodes’s work goes beyond anger, aiming instead to promote compassion and
hope. She believes that by addressing difficult histories, children can be empowered to “make the world better.” This vision is reflected in characters like Sarah in Ghost Boys, the daughter of the
same police officer, who grows up to advocate for justice. As noted by Kirkus Reviews, her books offer deep critical insight and challenge readers toward self-definition.
In summary, through her strategic choice of audience, accessible style, and powerful yet hopeful storytelling, Dr. Rhodes serves as a groundbreaker. Her books equip the next generation with the awareness and empathy needed to envision and create a more inclusive future,
embodying her hope that these young readers will help eliminate racial prejudice.

Global warming is one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. It refers to
the long-term rise in the average temperature of the Earth’s climate system, primarily due to
human activities such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation. As the climate warms, it leads to a variety of environmental impacts including the melting of ice caps, rising sea levels, and extreme weather events.
One significant consequence of global warming is the melting of glacier ice. This not only causes sea levels to rise but also threatens coastal communities with flooding and erosion. For
instance, islands in the Pacific Ocean are already experiencing the effects as their land slowly disappears beneath the waves.
Moreover, global warming is responsible for more frequent and severe weather events.
Increased temperatures can lead to more intense storms, floods, and droughts, disrupting
ecosystems and human societies. In the United States, hurricanes have become more powerful with greater rainfall, leading to significant damage and loss of life.
Addressing global warming requires international cooperation and individual efforts.
Countries worldwide need to work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop sustainable energy sources. Meanwhile, individuals can make a difference by reducing energy consumption, supporting green initiatives, and raising awareness about climate issues.
To combat global warming effectively, it’s essential for everyone to acknowledge the problem and take action before it’s too late.
32 .Which of the following causes global warming according to the article

I liked living in a mess. The desk, which should have been clear for my homework, was always filled with empty milk bottles, old magazines, and Post-it notes. My floor seemed to
swallow anything that entered my room. Mom always insisted that I clean my room. I’d respond with a nod, but never actually did it. She ended up having to tidy up herself. But no matter how much she cleaned, I always seemed to turn it into a mess again within days.
One weekend afternoon, I was lying in bed, lost in a book while my room was a total mess. Clothes were piled on the chair, snack wrappers littered the floor, and the desk was entirely hidden beneath my school books. I was comfortably immersed in (沉浸在) my chaos — until the phone rang. It was my best friend Felix. “Hey! How about playing chess together ”
“Good idea! Just come over!” I replied, picturing us laughing and enjoying each other’s company. However, as soon as I hung up the phone, reality hit me like a ton of bricks: my room was an absolute disaster!
I didn’t want my friend to see my room like this. My mind raced — should I call Felix back and tell him I am too busy Wouldn’t it be better to spare him from the horror of stepping into my disaster zone But I felt so guilty at the thought oflying to my best friend just because it looked as if a tornado had hit my room.
试卷第 11 页,共 12 页
I decided to tidy up my room. With only half an hour before Felix arrived, I felt the
pressure increasing. I thought about asking someone for help, so I stepped out of my room. I found my brother playing video games and my dad working. Only Mom seemed to have a moment to
spare. When I approached her with my request, she turned me down. “You can handle it on your own. Just learn to be independent,” she said gently.

M: Mia is a carbon copy of her sister Ella, and people can hardly tell them apart. They
specialize in different fields. Mia has a good comprehensive quality. She majored in electricity at college and successfully entered a famous American technology company after graduation.
Because of her outstanding achievements, plus her exceptional capacity, soon she was promoted to a senior management position in the company. Now she is one of the company’s major makers. Ella is four years older than Mia. Ella adored seeing movies as a child, and she became a director when she grew up. A decade ago, my communication with her reminded her of the subject of law, so she decided to shoot a TV series featuring a fair and honest judge. Before the shoot, not only
did she carefully learn about the law, but she also sought professional legal advice. The series is scheduled for release in August this year. Despite the tough times in the film and television
industry in recent years, the series, which is professional as well as interesting, will surely bring huge economic and social effects to Ella. Mia and Ella have succeeded in their respective careers, and they are the pride of their parents.

66 .Dear Jim,
I’m thrilled to hear about your summer camp plans in Beijing! Based on your interests, I strongly recommend the Chinese Calligraphy camp.
Firstly, calligraphy is a profound art form deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Unlike martial art which requires physical strength, calligraphy focuses on patience and inner peace. As a
beginner, you’ll find it easier to grasp basic brush techniques while appreciating the beauty of Chinese characters. Secondly, it offers lasting value: you can take home your own artwork as a meaningful souvenir.
I believe this experience will deepen your understanding of Chinese traditions in a relaxing way. Wish you an unforgettable summer filled with inspiration!
Yours,
Li Hua

Time was running out, and I knew I had to get it together and take action. I picked up the clothes from the chair and put them into the laundry basket. Then I threw the snack wrappers into the
trash can and piled my schoolwork. I wiped the dust off the desk. It felt good to see some
progress.
Paragraph 2: Just as I finished cleaning, I heard a knock on the door. It was Felix. After greeting my family, he walked into my room with me. As he stepped inside, he was surprised at how tidy it looked. Embarrassment washed over me as I explained that my room had been a total mess before this clean-up. I finally decided to take charge of the chaos. Felix remarked on how impressive it was to see me managing my space, admiring my newfound independence. A strong feeling of pride welled inside me.
