For the past five years, chef and author Samin Nosrat has done something that, for many, can feel impossible. She’s kept up a weekly dinner with friends.
At first, she thought people would be too busy for it. But over time, the dinner — held every Monday night for about 10 guests at a friend’s house — has become “a grounding, meaningful practice in all of our lives,” she says. “At one point, a friend told me that Monday dinner was her church.”
Nosrat talks to Life Kit about how to make a weekly dinner habit with friends that sticks.
Eliminate the guesswork of when and where your dinner will happen for the group. Choose the same day, time and location — and keep it. “That’s one less thing we have to coordinate and check in about,” Nosrat says.
There are a few kids in Nosrat’s dinner group, and she loves to get them in the kitchen. Think about any step in the meal preparation that the kids can do themselves, and save it for when you’re all together. Can they fold some dumplings Whisk a dressing Sprinkle cheese on quesadillas
While your weekly gathering should feel effortless, it should also feel special. Bring out the cloth napkins. Send the kids out to the yard to pick flowers for the table. Share a good bottle of wine. And take a moment to “come together and admire the food on the table,” Nosrat says. Just having that feeling of “wow, we get to eat this, and we all worked on this — it’s sacred.”
4. What is the weekly dinner in Nosrat’s friend’s mind

C. Their show time. D. Their gathering moment.

B. To tell the life story of Samin Nosrat.
C. To provide advice on maintaining a social tradition.
D. To encourage people to make more friends in their life.

Described as bottled poetry, wine is one of our wonderful creations. Nothing conveys that better than the great flavor of New Zealand’s wines. However, New Zealand’s wine industry struggles with issues like pesticide (杀虫剂) use, water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and climate change impacts like droughts and disease. Fortunately, the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) program offers hope by improving the industry’s environmental practices.
First launched in 1995, SWNZ was one of the world’s first sustainability certifications for winemakers. Since then, it’s been widely adopted. Members of the program must submit annual reports and undergo independent examination. Besides its commitment to environmental health, the program also focuses on employees working in the industry, climate action, water conservation, waste reduction and soil health. Over 90% of New Zealand’s vineyards (葡萄园) participate, showing the industry’s commitment.
While only a small percentage of these vineyards are fully organic, most of them use eco-friendly pest control. For example, they cut off vines to increase airflow and sunlight to reduce diseases naturally. They remove some leaves sometimes to improve soil and save water. Besides, they turn to SWNZ for help to prevent the spread of unwanted diseases.
Wine production also causes other environmental impacts. A lot of water is needed during the process. Therefore, most of vineyards have practices to reduce water use, including recycling cleaning water and purchasing new equipment for better water use. Together with wine, lots of waste is produced in the form of grape skins, seeds and stems. Most vineyards compost (把……制成堆肥) this waste, spread it back to the earth, or turn it into feed for livestock.
New Zealand’s wine industry, though small, has global influence. In 2024, exports reached $2.1 billion, making it the country’s sixth-largest export. By taking small, consistent steps—like lighter packaging and carbon reduction—the industry aims to balance quality wine with a healthier planet. As climate challenges grow, SWNZ’s model offers lessons for industries worldwide.
8. What is the SWNZ program working on
A. Creating best wine worldwide.
B. Employing workers for wineyards.
C. Awarding certificates to skillful winemakers.
D. Controlling the environmental impacts of winemaking.
9. What do we know about the vineyards from the examples in paragraph 3
A. Most of them are fully organic.
B. Eco-friendly methods are widely used.
C. The farmers gain more profits.
D. Unwanted diseases have been totally prevented.
10. Which practice has been widely adopted in New Zealand
A. Using water more efficiently.
B. Applying pesticide to reduce diseases.
C. Reducing waste in wine production.
D. Raising money for buying new equipment.
11. What is a suitable title for the text
A. Influence of New Zealand’s Winemakers
B. Benefits from New Zealand’s Wine Industry
C. Developmental challenges of Wine Production
D. Sustainable Solutions in New Zealand’s Wine Industry

As a general doctor and medical educator deeply committed to doctor-patient relationships, I approach Charlotte Blease’s Dr Bot with an open mind toward AI’s potential in healthcare. While I fully acknowledge AI as a valuable innovative tool that can improve medical efficiency, the book’s core argument that AI should completely replace doctors made me speechless. Blease’s perspective overlooks the great advancement of modern medical practice and the irreplaceable human elements that lie at the heart of effective care.
Her reasoning contains critical mistakes: she ignores the importance of caring for others — a quality extensively proven to boost patient satisfaction, treatment following and overall clinical outcomes — as an obstacle to sensible clinical decision-making. She also ignores AI’s natural limitations: it cannot perform physical examinations, surgeries or handle complex emergency situations that demand human judgment and adaptability. Additionally, she underestimates pressing risks associated with AI, including data leaks, unequal access to advanced tools across different populations and the too much energy and resource consumption tied to AI operations.
AI already contributes meaningfully to medicine, from making easier notes about communicating with doctors to speeding up literature reviews, and Australian doctors readily accept these innovations to reduce administrative workload. Younger doctors, raised in the digital era, are particularly eager to integrate AI into their daily practice. Yet as physician Dhruv Khullar warns, over-reliance on AI risks diminishing doctors’ diagnostic (诊断) skills and clinical judgment due to a lack of practice, leaving patients in danger when technology fails — an increasingly likely situation during climate-driven problems and system failures.
I openly acknowledge the imperfections of the medical profession, including occasional instances of overconfidence, insensitivity and human error. However, today’s doctors — especially younger generations — bring greater awareness of diverse patient needs, strong communication abilities and a genuine commitment to using AI to improve care quality. The path forward doesn’t lie in replacing doctors with AI, but in building good teamwork between the two. Blease’s call for full doctor replacement is shortsighted. True healthcare progress depends on using AI to boost, not replace, the human kindness, clinical skills, knowledge, and contextual understanding — the qualities that define effective, patient-centered medicine.
12. Which is a noted shortcoming of AI in medicine
A. Lack of data processing ability.
B. Inability to conduct surgeries.
C. Refusal to integrate with clinics.
D. Failure to analyze medical papers.
13. What does the underlined word “diminishing” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Weakening. B. Deepening.
C Refreshing. D. Demonstrating.
14. What is the author’s argument
A. Banning AI in clinical settings.
B. Fully replacing doctors with AI.
C. Promoting AI-doctor cooperation.
D. Limiting AI to administrative work.
15. What is the author’s attitude toward Blease’s core argument
A. Fully supportive. B. Strongly critical.
C. Mildly doubtful. D. Totally indifferent.

I don’t like books about “second chances”. Why should someone be given another chance when they mess up Why do people beg for forgiveness and then repeat their errors anyway Yet despite myself, I give out second chances like free candy — again, again, and again.
___16___ Whether little mistakes or bigger errors, I’ll put on a smile, saying, “It’s fine!” and then carry on with my day, no matter how these moments might make me feel.
But I’m not a blind forgiver. When I brush off a mistake in the moment, I’m really giving myself a second chance to see beyond the error itself. I might grab coffee with the person, observing how he acts and interacts with others — little details often offer fresh insights into who he is. ___17___ A third party’s perspective keeps me from being one-sided in my thinking. Ultimately, I piece together the reasoning, try to empathize, and figure out why things happened that way.
Empathizing is an important part of the relationship. ___18___ Perhaps the person was buried in work, going through a tough period, or just having a bad day. Giving a second opportunity to those who truly deserve it can keep precious connections alive. ___19___
Of course second chances always come with a quiet risk: I might end up giving one to someone who takes my kindness for granted and messes up again. ___20___ It gives me a unique window into his true self — and even if I’m disappointed, that insight enriches my understanding of people, helping me choose more wisely who to invest in next.
A. I’m a forgiving person at heart.
B. That alone makes the effort worthwhile.
C. A second chance is always my last choice.
D. Though I choose to forgive, I never forget.
E. Even so, this risk is necessary and valuable.
F. Or I might turn to a mutual friend for his or her opinion.
G. After all, many mistakes arise from understandable reasons.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When Mark, a software engineer from Chicago, first arrived in Chengdu to lead a joint project, he prided himself on his cultural adaptability. He had read the guidebooks and even learned basic Chinese greetings. However, nothing prepared him for a dramatic and confusing Chinese dinner bill fight.
On a Friday evening, Mark invited two Chinese colleagues (同事), Li Wei and Director Zhang, to a hotpot dinner to celebrate the completion of a project. Since it was a casual outing, Mark had planned to go Dutch (split the bill), the standard and fair practice in Chicago.
The meal was fantastic and the atmosphere was warm filled with laughter and toasts to future success. As the meal wound down, Mark signaled the waiter over and asked him for the bill, intending to split the cost equally and pay his own share. Seeing this, Li Wei and Director Zhang exchanged surprised glances and practically leaped from their chairs. What followed was a scene of chaos that genuinely alarmed Mark. Both of the colleagues were physically blocking him from the waiter. And each of them was trying to pay for the dinner.
“No, no, no! Mark! You are a guest in China. It’s my treat!” Li Wei insisted, his hand grabbing Mark’s arm with surprising strength. And Director Zhang, usually a quiet man, shouted loudly, “You are in Chengdu, my hometown. I should pay!” He already stuffed the money into the waiter’s hand.
Mark felt a rush of confusion and annoyance. In America, financial independence is a virtue, and if someone pays for you, they seem to look down upon you.
“Stop!” Mark said, his voice a little louder than he intended. The table went quiet. “Each pay his own way. OK ” Then he threw his share on the table heavily. His colleagues froze, looking awkward. The ride home was silent — Mark had finally followed his own way, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that he had lost something important.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next day, Mark asked Li Wei, “Why were you and Director Zhang so aggressive (强势) last night ”
