A
Who can be the most dangerous one on the street, the car driver, the cyclist or the pedestrian Now let’s take a look at some people’s opinions.
William Lang
In my opinion, I believe many cyclists behave dangerously. Many drivers are disrespectful of cyclists. But pedestrians are probably the worst offenders.
People of all ages happily walk along the pavement with eyes and hands glued to the
mobile phone, quite unaware of what is going on around them. They may even do the same thing while crossing a road at a pedestrian crossing or elsewhere. The rest ofus have to give way to
them or just stand still to wait for the unavoidable collision.
The real problem is that some pedestrians seem to be, at least for the moment, in worlds of their own that are, to them, much more important than the welfare of others.
Hemingway
I am afraid nowadays the cyclists seem to think they own the roads.
I was walking across Renmin Road one morning when a cyclist went round me and on being asked what he was doing, he shouted at me.
The government built a cycle lane on the road but it is hardly used.
The police do nothing. What a laugh they are!
The cyclists should all have to be made to use the cycle lanes and wear helmets, fluorescent (发荧光的) jacket and tights at night and in the morning. They should pay some sort of tax and be fined for not wearing them.
Gary
Cyclists jump on and off pavements (which are meant for pedestrians), ride at speed along the pavements, and think they have a special right to go through traffic lights when they are on
red.
I was almost knocked down recently by a cyclist riding on the pavement when there was a cycle lane right next to him.
Other road users, including horse riders, manage to obey the rules, so why not cyclists
It’s about time they had to be registered and insured, so when they do hit a pedestrian or a vehicle, or cause an accident, at least they can be traced and there might be an opportunity to
claim.
21 .The purpose of the question in paragraph one is to .
A .introduce a topic B .set an example
C .show an attitude D .draw a conclusion
22 .William thinks that .
A .some pedestrians are a threat to road safety B .drivers should be polite to cyclists
C .walking while using phones harms one’s eyesD .road accidents can actually be avoided
23 .Both Hemingway and Gary suggest that cyclists should-.
A .be fined for laughing at policemen B .be provided with enough roads
C .be made to pay less tax for cycling D .be asked to ride on their own lanes
B
At 90 years old, Barby Keel is proving that compassion (同情心) knows no age limit. Over
the past 54 years, she has devoted her life to rescuing animals in need — saving an estimated
10,000 from neglect, abuse, and abandonment through the Barby Keel Animal Shelter in Sussex, England.
What started with a simple favor in the 1970s — caring for a soldier’s dog while he was
stationed in Northern Ireland — turned into a lifelong mission. The dog never left, and soon Barby was asked to take in a few cats. Decades later, her shelter now spreads 12acres and is home to
more than 600 animals.
Barby spent the first 20 years running the shelter entirely on her own, and today she is
supported by a devoted team of volunteers. Despite having faced cancer three times, she still
wakes at 7 a.m. every day to care for her beloved animals and says she “never” takes a day off.
“Some days I am tired out — it’s hard work,” she said. “But then I get a little nose touch or a face look up at me, and I remember why I’m doing this. My animals come first and always will.”
Today, the shelter is a nonprofit that relies entirely on public donations. It recently reopened to the public and welcomes visitors every Sunday through October 2025, free of charge. Guests
can meet the animals, visit the café and gift shop, and learn more about the lives that have been
saved. Barby also uses her own pension (养老金) to buy amounts of pet food, which she resells at low prices to help struggling pet owners.
“I’m so thankful for my brilliant team of volunteers and all the kind people who support
us,” she said. “I know I can’t do everything anymore, but I still get up early to feed the cats and check on them all. It’s a lovely life.” Her secret to staying strong “Hard work and a breakfast of beans every morning.”

A .Her wish to make friends.

People are less willing to rely on their knowledge and say they know something when they have access (使用权) to the Internet. That suggests that our connection to the Internet is affecting how we think. Professor Evan F. Risko led a study where 100 participants (参与者) faced general knowledge questions, such as naming the capital of France. For half of the study, participants had access to the Internet. They had to look up the answer when they said that they did not know the answer. In the other half of the study, participants who did not have access to the Internet did
differently.
The team found that the people who had access to the Internet were about 5 percent more
likely to say that they did not know the answer to the question. And the people with access to the Internet reported feeling as though they knew less. “When a large amount of information is within reach, people seem less likely to rely on their own knowledge,” said Professor Risko.
Through the results, the researchers held that access to the Internet might make it less
acceptable to say you know something but are incorrect. It is also possible that participants were more likely to say they didn’t know an answer when they had access to the Internet, because
online searching offers a chance to confirm (证实) their answer or satisfy their curiosity.
“Our results suggest that access to the Internet affects the decisions we make about what we know and don’t know. We hope this research is helpful in our growing understanding of how
easily access to large amounts of information can influence our thinking.” Risko said and planned to further the research in this area.
28 .What can we know about the participants without the Internet
A .They knew all the answers.
B .They asked to look up the answers.
C .They were surer of their knowledge.
D .They were more successful in their jobs.
29 .Why did those with the Internet depend less on their knowledge
A .They knew a little about the answers.
B .They wanted to avoid making mistakes.
C .They could not give the correct answers.
D .They were curious about other people’s lives.
30 .What does the underlined part “this area” in the last paragraph refer to
A .Our growing understanding.
B .What we know and don’t know.
C .Our access to large amounts of information.
D .The influence of access to the Internet on us.
31 .What is the text mainly about
A .Access to the Internet is running our lives.
B .The Internet is a good place to get information.
C .We’re unwilling to believe in others with the Internet.
D .The Internet makes us unwilling to say we know things.

In the ever-changing world of health trends, the claim (声称) that green tea is a powerful
fat-burner has caught the public’s fancy. Driven by marketers and the spread of information in the media, this idea has become a hot topic. Being the curious cat I am, I reached out to two experts
for their thoughts: computer scientist Chris Johnson, who’s really good at seeing through false claims, and physicist Philip Taylor, who bases his ideas on research.
Green tea has a long-standing reputation for health benefits, but the recent craze about its fat-burning abilities has taken it to new heights. Health magazines and online articles are full of stories and supposed scientific evidence suggesting that a few cups of green tea a day can speed
up metabolism (新陈代谢) and burn fat effortlessly.
However, Johnson warns that such claims are often not based on scientific research. “The green-tea-for-fat-loss industry is a classic case of people just following the crowd,” he says.
Companies are going along with the trend, making grand promises without scientific backing to support them. This over-promotion of green tea as a fat-burner is risky. Consumers, hoping for a quick and easy way to lose weight, may waste their money on ineffective products. When these
products fail to deliver, it can lead to disappointment and a loss of trust in the health and wellness industry.
Taylor, though he knows what’s going on, has a more balanced view. From his research, he thinks there might be a little bit of truth to the claim that green tea can aid in fat loss, but only
when combined with a balanced diet and regular exercise.
So, does green tea really burn fat Well, it’s not a simple yes or no. There might be some small effects on your metabolism, but it’s definitely not a magic pill for losing weight. As
consumers, we should be careful about these claims and only believe information that’s based on real evidence. In the end, a healthy and lasting way to lose weight involves proper nutrition,
regular physical activity, and a realistic understanding of what different foods and drinks can do for our bodies.
32 .Why did the author ask two experts for their thoughts
A .To satisfy his curiosity. B .To find new consumers.
C .To test a theory. D .To join the crowd.
33 .Which may Johnson agree with about the green-tea-for-fat-loss industry
A .It does the trick for people’s health.
B .It lacks reliable evidence to support the claims.
C .It encourages consumers to buy fitness products.
D .It transforms people’s understanding of getting into shape.
34 .What can we infer from the last paragraph
A .Green tea can be made into a magic pill.
B .Green tea is the first choice for weight reduction.
C .Proper diet and exercise contribute to weight loss.
D .It’s easy to tell the weight-loss effect of green tea.

35 .Which can be a suitable title for the text

I served as a volunteer for an organization earlier this year, one devoted to supporting
children battling cancer. One particular day, Lisa-my fellow volunteer-and I were assigned to raise funds for cancer research at a public event. The venue was crowded, and though many people
paused to glance at our poster or ask a few questions, very few actually donated. As the minutes dragged on, both Lisa and I grew increasingly disheartened (沮丧的).
About half an hour, Lisa sighed (叹气) in frustration, “I don’t think we’re going to raise much today.” I tried to sound optimistic, “The event isn’t over yet — we still have time,” though deep down, I shared her doubts.
Just as we were losing hope, a little boy, no more than eight years old, approached slowly.
Stopping in front of our poster, he frowned slightly, carefully reading the words. After a moment of quiet concentration, he looked up with large, curious eyes and asked softly, “What is cancer ”
I knelt down to his level and did my best to explain it in simple terms, describing how the illness affects people and why we need more research to help them. With his expression growing more serious with each word, he asked, “Do children get cancer too ”
“Yes,” Lisa replied gently with sadness. “Many children do. Some of them don’t get better. They really need someone to help.”
Hearing this, his shoulders dropped slightly, and a shadow of sorrow crossed his young face. After a brief silence, he asked in a small voice, “How much money have you collected so
far ”
Lisa and I exchanged an uneasy glance, both feeling embarrassed about revealing (透露) how little we had raised. Finally, I murmured, “Not very much.”
The boy peeked into our donation box, his eyes taking in the one-and five-dollar bills. He didn’t say another word, but the disappointment in his expression was unmistakable.
Turning quietly, he walked away and disappeared into the crowd.
Neither of us expected to see that little boy again. Yet, about twenty minutes later, to our surprise, he returned.

M: So what’s the best part of your job
W: I can see this city changes from season to season because the job is being outdoors. And there is scenery I would probably never have seen in another job. I love all kinds of weather. I like to
leave the window down in a fine rain, when I have a long drive, and maybe at the end of the day. I sometimes go past my home to tell my two little children I’ll be home soon, when they always
want to come along in my car.
M: I guess all kids like to be taken for a ride sometimes.

M: While there are a number of first-aid boxes on the market, they often lack some things you need or have other things that you don’t need. Instead of buying such a first-aid box, you can save money and get everything you need in the box by creating your own. Select a small box or
bag, which is light and can hold all of your first-aid materials. This is of particular importance if you need it while you are taking a trip away from home. Separate your first-aid box or bag into
two sections. One section should include all of your basic medical supplies, such as bandages,
while the second one should include medicine. Make sure that your box contains important basic medicine. There should be enough for your family or group, which means that the larger your
family or groups is, the more medicine you need in your first-aid box. When it comes to bandages and other lightweight items, the more the better. Keep other necessary things in your first-aid box

great place to keep blood pressure medicine, in case there is an emergency when you are far from medical help. You might also put emergency phone numbers, snake bite medicine or other items into your first-aid box.

由第一段“Who can be the most dangerous one on the street, the car driver, the cyclist or the pedestrian Now let’s take a look at some people’s opinions. (谁可能是街上最危险 的人,汽车司机、骑自行车的人还是行人?现在让我们来看看一些人的看法)”和下文 3 人对这个问题的看法可知,第一段中问题的目的在于介绍一个主题——一些人对此问题的看法。故选 A 项。
由 William Lang 下第一段的“In my opinion, I believe many cyclists behave dangerously. (在我看来,我认为很多骑车人的行为都很危险)”和第二段的“People of all ages happily walk along the pavement with eyes and hands glued to the mobile phone, quite unaware of what is going on around them. They may even do the same thing while crossing a road at a
pedestrian crossing or elsewhere. 故选 A 项。
由 Hemingway 下最后一段中的“The cyclists should all have to be made to use the cycle lanes and wear helmets, fluorescent (发荧光的) jacket and tights at night and in the
morning. (骑自行车的人都必须使用自行车道,晚上和早上都要戴头盔、穿荧光夹克和紧身衣)”和Gary 下第一段中的“Cyclists jump on and off pavements (which are meant for pedestrians) (骑自行车的人在人行道上跳上跳下(这是为行人准备的))”及第三段中的“Other road users, including horse riders, manage to obey the rules, so why not cyclists (其他道路使用者,包括骑马的人,都遵守了规则,那么骑车的人为什么不遵守呢?)”

根据第二段中“What started with a simple favor in the 1970s — caring for a soldier’s dog while he was stationed in Northern Ireland — turned into a lifelong mission.(上世纪70 年代,一个简单的帮忙——在一名士兵驻扎北爱尔兰期间照顾他的狗——变成了一项终身使命)”可知,Barby 最初是因为答应照顾一只狗,后来才逐渐发展建立了动物收容所。故选 C 项。
根据第三段中 Barby 的话“But then I get a little nose touch or a face look up at me, and I remember why I’m doing this. My animals come first and always will.(但当我感受到
根据第四段中“Barby also uses her own pension (养老金) to buy amounts of pet food, which she resells at low prices to help struggling pet owners.(Barby 还用自己的养老金购买大量宠物食品,然后以低价转售给经济困难的宠物主人)”可知,她无私地帮助他人,体现了她的无私。再根据第三段中“Despite having faced cancer three times, she still wakes at 7 a.m. every day to care for her beloved animals and says she “never” takes a day off.(尽管三次患癌,她仍然每天早上 7 点起床照顾她心爱的动物,并且说她“从不”休假)”可知,她不顾自身困难坚持照顾动物,体现了她的坚定。 故选 A 项。
文章开篇点明“At 90 years old, Barby Keel is proving that compassion (同情心) knows no age limit.(90 岁的 Barby Keel 证明了同情心没有年龄限制)”,奠定了全文的主旨基调。 所以“Age does not limit one’s ability to make a difference.(年龄并不能限制一个人做出贡献的能力)”最能概括作者的 写作意图。故选 D 项。

half of the study, participants who did not have access to the Internet did differently.(在一半的研 究中,参与者可以上网。 可知,可以上网的参与者说不知道答案时,他们必须查阅答案, 而不能上网的参与者表现不同;结合下文第二段“The team found that the people who had access to the Internet were about 5 percent more likely to say that they did not know the answer to the question. And the people with access to the Internet reported feeling as though they knew less. “When a large amount of information is within reach, people seem less likely to rely on their own knowledge,” said Professor Risko.(研究小组发现,能上网的人说他们不知道问题答案的可能 性要高出 5%。
根据文章第三段“It is also possible that participants were more likely to say they didn’t know an answer when they had access to the Internet, because online searching offers a chance to confirm (证实)their answer or satisfy their curiosity.(还有一种可能是,当参与者能够上网时,他们更有可能说自己不知道答案,因为在线搜索提供了一个确认答案或满足好奇心的机会)”可知,那些有互联网的人不太依赖他们的知识因为他们想避免犯错误。故选 B。
We hope this research is helpful in our growing

38 .根据上文“After listening, give them advice if they ask for it. After identifying the problem, take a moment to consider the best course of action.(听完之后,如果他们有需求的话,就给他们提些建议。在找出问题之后,花点时间思考最佳的解决办法)”以及后文“If you don’t, be
honest to yourself and them, making sure you don’t lie. Take them to a person who has a better fix for the problem than you have.(如果你不这么做,那就诚实地面对自己和他们,确保不要撒谎。

40 .根据上文“Know that sometimes people need to be sad. There are some people in the world who will benefit more from a day of sadness than others.(要知道,有时人们确实需要经历悲伤的情绪。在世上,有些人会比其他人从悲伤的情绪中获得更大的益处)”可知,本段指出“有时人们需要悲伤的时间”,本句解释允许悲伤的益处,故 G 选项“对于这些人来说,这能给他们提供反思、自我分析和恢复精力的时间”符合语境,故选 G。

Paragraph 1:
The boy came running back to us. His face was red with exertion, and he was clutching a
small, worn piggy bank in his hands. “Here,” he said breathlessly, “I want to give all my money to help the children with cancer.” He poured out the coins into our donation box, which made a
clinking sound as they fell. We were both speechless, realizing that this little boy, who was
probably not much older than the children we were trying to help, had given up all his savings for this cause.
Paragraph 2:
Watching the boy walk away, Lisa and I were deeply touched. We knew that his act of
kindness would inspire others to do the same. As we continued our fundraising efforts, we shared the boy’s story with everyone who stopped by, hoping to spread the message of compassion and generosity. The boy’s selfless act, though small in amount, was a powerful reminder that even the youngest among us can make a difference in the world, which is what truly matters.
