新素材 [小伙为救同学缺考] Imagine you are on your way to take a very important exam. Suddenly, one of your classmates falls down beside you. This is exactly what happened to Jiang Zhaopeng, a 17-year-old student at a vocational school in Shandong on 10th May 2025. Jiang was on his way to take the Shandong Provincial Spring College Entrance Examination, which is a college entrance exam in China. His classmate had a heart problem and stopped breathing. Jiang didn’t think twice. He quickly used the CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation, 心肺复苏) skills he learned at school to help his classmate. With the help of the driver, they drove to the hospital in just 7 minutes. They even ran through six red lights on the way. In the end, Jiang’s classmate got better, but Jiang missed his Chinese exam.
This story became very popular on the Internet. More than 2 million people online said Jiang was a hero. They said, “He passed the most important test in life.” On 14th May, the Shandong Education Authority decided to give Jiang a special make-up exam. They used backup test papers to ensure fairness. Both Jiang and the driver, Wang Tao, got “Bravery Certificates” from the local government.
Teachers and experts said this showed how useful the first-aid skills we learned in school could be. These skills can help save lives in real emergencies (突发事件). When people asked Jiang about missing the exam, he said, “We can take exams again, but we can’t bring a life back if it’s gone.”
This event teaches us that being kind is more important than getting good grades. As an expert said, “Exams test our knowledge, but Jiang’s decision showed his good character, and he did very well in that test.” Jiang’s story tells us that saving someone’s life is the biggest success of all.

You may know about “junk food” (垃圾食品) like French fries, hamburgers and so on. But do you know about “junk sleep”
A British survey (调查) shows that there are many electronic products (电子产品) in kids’ bedrooms. They are having a really bad influence on kids’ sleep.
Scientists chose 1,000 British kids from 12 to 16 to do the survey. They found that 50% of the kids got just 4 to 7 hours’ sleep every day. But doctors say they need 8 to 9 hours.
Almost 25% of the kids said they often fell asleep while they were watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products.
“This is very worrying,” said Dr. Chris, a British professor. “We call it junk sleep. It means you don’t get enough sleep and the quality of the sleep is low too.” The survey found that quite a few of the kids felt tired each day because of the junk sleep, especially girls between 13 and 16. Nearly all the kids have a phone, music player or TV in their bedrooms. And lots of them have all three.
Dr. Chris suggested that parents should help their children keep away from electronic products. They can spend more time with their children, taking part in reading or sports.
10.How many of the 1,000 British kids got only 4 to 7 hours’ sleep a day in the survey
11.What were almost 25% of the kids often doing when they fell asleep
12.What does “junk sleep” mean according to the passage

People of your age, like your classmates and friends, are called your peers. When they try to influence how you act or get you to do something, they bring you peer pressure.
Peers can have a good influence on each other. They learn from each other and make progress together. Sometimes, however, peers influence each other in bad ways. For example, a few classmates might get you to cut class, or a friend might want you to try smoking.
Some children give in to peer pressure because they want to be liked or they worry that other children might make fun of them if they don’t follow the group. Others go along with the group because they want to try something new that their peers are doing. So sometimes, it’s hard to be the only one to say “no” to peer pressure. But you can do it.
Paying attention to your own feelings about what is right can help you make the right choice. You can simply stay away from peers who ask you to do something wrong. When you find it difficult to deal with peer pressure, you can talk to someone you trust. Don’t feel sorry if you’ve made a mistake. Speaking it out can help you feel much better.
Remember, true friends will respect your choices. If they pressure you into doing bad things, they aren’t good friends. Stay strong, trust yourself, and choose peers who encourage you to be better. Saying “no” now can save you from bigger troubles later.
15.What is peer pressure
16.Why do some children give in to peer pressure
17.What can you do if you find it hard to deal with peer pressure
18.How can you choose the right friends Write 30 words or more.

My friend, Robert, has a twin sister named Amanda. Though they get along well, there are some things about Amanda and her friends that puzzle (使困惑) him. He can’t understand how girls can talk for long. For example, sometimes when he leaves home to play football, Amanda and her friend, Sharon, are sitting on the sofa, talking. When he comes back three hours later, they’re still sitting there, going on with the same topic.
Boys and girls have different attitudes towards friendships. Friendships between girls are usually about sharing feelings and support, but boys prefer to share activities or interests. A boy seems to be more careful about sharing his feelings with his friends. A girl’s closest friend, however, might always be about to tell her about something that has happened in her life.
Many studies show that girls have more friendships than boys. In fact, many teenage boys cannot name a single best friend. When asked, they think for a while before answering, “My best friend Er, I don’t think about that, and I have so many different friends that it is hard to choose just one best friend.” Girls who have been asked can usually answer the question without thinking, “A best friend Of course. We have a lot to share with each other and do a lot of things together.”
We have to realize: boys share activities, while girls share feelings more. But the most important thing to remember is that both of them need friendships.
19.What’s the relationship between Robert and Amanda (不超过5个词)
20.Who has more friendships, boys or girls (不超过5个词)
21.What do boys and girls have in common according to the passage (不超过10个词)

Many studies show that girls have more friendships than boys. In fact, many teenage boys cannot name a single best friend. When asked, they thought for a while before answering, “My best friend Er, I don’t think about that, and I have so many different friends that it is hard to choose just one best friend.” Girls who have been asked can usually answer the question without thinking, “A best friend Of course. We have a lot to share with each other and do a lot of things together.”
We have to realize that boys share activities, while girls share feelings more. But the most important thing to remember is that both of them need friendship.

Dear Uncle John, I apologise for not writing earlier and causing you to be worried. I am disappointed. I have failed my final-year exam though I studied so hard for it. Life is so unfair. Now I wonder whether it is better for me to join the working world or to repeat my studies. Love, Fred
Dear Fred, I am sorry to hear what you’re experiencing. But I have to be a little strict with you for your own good. I heard from your friends that you spent a lot of time on tennis and other sports. Don’t you think that may have had something to do with your failure Your grades were already getting worse in your second year. That should have been a clear signal for you to reconsider your schedule. Another thing is that I know you have a habit of not getting up until 10:00 am on weekends. You are oversleeping! Have you heard of the story of The Hare and the Tortoise It’s only through consistent hard work that the tortoise finally beats the hare. Right now, however, I am most disappointed with you over something else. How can you even think about not repeating your final year That would be another mistake and I will not allow you to do that. You must forget the past and start all over again from the beginning. You have been given a second chance and not everyone gets the second chance like you. If you can show such determination in sports, you can show even greater courage in your studies. We all make mistakes in life. The biggest would be not to try to correct them. Uncle John

Many people, like Andy, worry too much about what others think of them. At school, Andy never answers questions because he is afraid of making mistakes. He even works hard to make people think he’s good enough.
It’s normal to care about what others think, but we shouldn’t let it control our lives. The key is to know we live for ourselves, not for others. There are several ways to go about doing this.
First, we should remember that we are often our own biggest judges(裁判). If we have a low opinion of ourselves, then we think that others feel the same way about us. To get over this, we should learn to “love ourselves”. We can do what we like to do and help others at the same time. For example, if you are book lovers, try to volunteer to read for kids.
Second, we can’t control how others think of us. Instead of trying to please everyone, we should learn about what makes us different. Why not take up a hobby like playing basketball In this way, we can lower our stress and have a good time in our free time. However, this doesn’t mean we should ignore(忽视) how we treat others. Listen to others first, even if we disagree. Being kind and respectful is always important.
At the same time, it’s okay to express our own opinions. Remember, winning or losing is not the point. It’s impossible to make everyone think like us. Everyone has different opinions and we’re not trying to start a fight. So, express our own opinions politely. After all, communication is the best way to solve problems.
So, be ourselves, respect others and express our thoughts kindly. Don’t let fear of judgment hold us back!
