James poured oil into a pan and turned on the stove to heat it. Then he left the kitchen to talk with Allen, and the oil got too hot and caught fire.

A Cooking Accident
James lived in the city with his friend Allen. It was their first time living away from their families, and they enjoyed learning how to do many things themselves.
One Saturday, James decided to make fried chicken. First, he poured oil into a pan. Then he turned on the stove and left the oil to heat while he prepared the chicken. Just then, he heard the front door open, followed by the sound of Allen singing.
"Guess what," Allen called out happily, "We won!"
Why did James decide to make fried chicken
Because he enjoyed learning how to do many things with Allen.
What was James doing when Allen called him to the living room
A. Preparing chicken while waiting for oil to heat.

"Oh no!”
They both rushed back into the kitchen. The pan was on fire! Large flames were jumping into the air. In a panic, James turned off the stove at once. But he was so close to the pan that a flame jumped onto his shirt. James cried out and threw himself to the floor. He put out the fire by rolling on the ground, but the pan was still burning!

James followed Allen to the living room for the football story. While talking, Allen stopped suddenly as he smelled ________________. They rushed back to the kitchen and found the pan was _______. James was careless to leave oil to heat alone. But he was smart because he rushed to turn off the stove and put out the fire on his shirt by rolling on the ground.
Allen was excellent—he remembered the safety knowledge and put out the fire with the fire extinguisher instead of using water.
