电梯惊魂
题目回顾
Para.1 When we were finally dismissed from the last class of the day, the students streamed out of the classrooms. It was another boring day after school. I dragged my feet home as I sighed. Yet another uneventful day, I thought. Little did I know that the day would take a turn for the worse.
Para.2 The lift lobby (电梯间) of my flat was old and dirty. The walls, which were painted white, had been dirtied over many years. I reached my flat’s lobby, and pressed the lift button and went in. Just then, Mrs Lim, my elderly neighbour, hobbled (蹒跚) in. She looked ancient with tissue paper white hair, wearing a faded old-fashioned dress. I held the lift door open, flashing a friendly smile, and politely greeted her. I asked her how she felt that day and pressed the buttons. She thanked me for being so polite, then we were silent for the rest of the ride.
对比:It was really an eventful day, on which a life-or-death accident happened.
Para.3 The lift fell down increasingly fast. There were loud clanking v.(使)发出叮当声,发出当啷声sounds here and there while the lift grew slower and slower. My heart beat hard and fast as my hands turned cold and wet with sweat. Unfortunately, the lift came to an abrupt stop at the fifth floor. I pressed the buttons hard several times, but it was of no help. The lights on the buttons had gone out. It soon dawned on me that we were trapped. An icy fear crept up my spine. Mrs Lim was hysterical (歇斯底里).
Para.4 “We will never get out!” she cried with her face pale. It had become a colourless mask. I had no time to lose. I pressed the bell in the lift immediately. The sound was surely deafening vt. 使听不见, but what other choice did I have Mrs Lim burst into tears. I tried my very best to comfort her, telling her that everything would be all right and that we needed to find out how to get out safely. Mrs Lim began having trouble breathing, and I immediately helped her sit down and loosened her collar.
对比:In the limited space of the lift, darkness enveloped us, leaving us desperate and isolated.
对比:Now Mrs. Lim managed to breathe smoothly with my assistance and controlled/ composed herself.

Bang! My hopes were lifted when I heard the firefighters on the other side of the lift door. (动作描写)Help was finally here! The brave firefighters cranked the doors open using their tools. (结果)It felt like a hundred pound weight was lifted off me.(动作描写)I heaved a sigh of relief (长长地舒了一口气)when the doors were finally opened and all this drama was over. The firefighters praised me for helping Mrs Lim. My cheeks were flushed(脸红), and I returned their praise with gratitude. Mrs Lim thanked me profusely (慷慨地,毫不吝啬地)and even gave me a hug. (升华)As I recalled the day’s events, I was proud of myself for consoling Mrs Lim and keeping calm during an emergency. I learnt from this incident that instead of being hysterical, we should keep calm and wait for help to arrive.
Several minutes passed but no help came. The elevator was enveloped in a terrifying atmosphere, the dim light and deadly silence adding to our mounting fear. Mrs. Lim was a picture of despair, her body trembling as she continuously sobbed and gasped for air. Despite the fear that gripped me, I put on a brave face, trying to comfort her with reassuring words and a gentle pat on her shoulder. I then turned my efforts to the lift doors, pounding and shouting for assistance, yet the only response was the echo of my own desperate calls bouncing off the cold metal walls. As time wore on, the tension became unbearable, and I could feel my composure beginning to fray at the edges.
Bang! My hopes were lifted when I heard the firefighters on the other side of the lift door. “Please help us! There’s an elderly woman in here!” I yelled at the top of my lungs, my voice tinged with renewed hope and relief. The firefighters responded with calming words, instructing us to remain composed and assuring us that rescue was imminent. Turning back to Mrs. Lim, I comforted her that help had arrived and we would soon be safe. After what seemed like an eternity, the door finally creaked open, and we were ushered into the welcoming arms of our rescuers. Back home, I collapsed onto the couch, reflecting on the day’s events and reminding myself to cherish the ordinary, seemingly unremarkable days.
Several minutes passed, but no help came. Despite my mounting fear, I gathered my composure and pressed the bell again, praying someone would come to our rescue. Unfortunately, after my several attempts there came nothing but dead silence. Just then, it was getting hot and stuffy. Mrs Lim was seized by a wave of panic attack, stumbling and mumbling. I gave her a gentle pat on the back and signaled her to lean against the corner. Bearing a last glimmer of hope, I started banging on the door and screamed my lungs out.
Bang! My hopes were lifted when I heard the firefighters on the other side of the lift door. The knights in shining armor came to our rescue! The second they cracked open the door, I felt a massive weight off my shoulder. One of them bravely slid down to lend us a hand, while the rest were ready to pull us out with ropes. It didn’t take long before we were rescued out of the lift. Mrs Lim, tears all over her face, kept thanking me and the firefighters. Truth be told, I had never felt so alive! It dawned on me that I should never take my blessed uneventful life for granted, and I must cherish what I have with a grateful heart.
