By the time Nalin Kamat was 13, the Toronto teen was well on his way to becoming a
working artist. He had already had his first show at a local art centre, showcasing his series titled “Dispositions”, which illustrated his own growth during adolescence (青少年).
Yet he wanted more — specifically to start showing his work in a juried exhibition, where a group of art experts would evaluate and select pieces in a competitive review process. That’s when he hit an obstacle, discovering in the very last line of a multi-page application that the minimum
age for submission was 18.
That rejection became a motivation for creation. “I thought it’d be really cool if I could
provide the opportunity to more young artists,” says Nalin. With the support of his parents, Nalin rented a storefront and founded Little EGG Gallery, which is now profitable enough to make ends meet by charging a small hanging fee for any displayed work. In turn, Little EGG helps promote young talent by showcasing their work.
Not long after opening, David Griffin, a professor and artist of Ontario College of Art and Design University stepped into the gallery and met Nalin. Griffin regards him as someone special:
“a strong young artist with a really excellent idea — creating a space for showing the natural
genius of young people. It was a void (空白) in the art world.” There Nalin asked Griffin to help judge an upcoming competition. The first juried show was last spring, and five year-old Jack
Gamble won for his abstract painting titled Pokemon.

26 .Which of the following can best describe Nalin’s idea of opening the gallery
A .Short-lived. B .Pioneering.

Many people believe that working to the maximum is the secret to success, but research has found that moderation(适度) also gets results on the job.
In a study led by Ellen Langer of Harvard University, researchers asked people to translate sentences into a new made-up language. Subjects who practiced the language moderately
beforehand made fewer errors than those who practiced extensively or not at all. High levels of
knowledge can make people too attached to traditional ways of viewing problems across fields the arts, sciences, and politics. High conscientiousness is related to lower job performance, especially in simple jobs where it doesn’t pay to be a perfectionist.

in many workplaces. The young banker who eats lunch at his desk is probably seen as a go-getter, while his colleagues who chat over a relaxed conference-room meal get dirty looks from the
corner office. “People from cultures that value relationships more than ours does are shocked by the thought of eating alone in front of a computer”, says Art Markman, a professor of psychology at the University of Texas, Austin. Social interaction has been shown to lift mood(情绪) and get people thinking in new directions and in ways that could help improve any post-lunch effort.
Markman also promotes off-task time. “Part ofbeing a good thinker is experiencing things that are seemingly unrelated to what you are working on at the moment but give you fresh ideas about your work,” he says. “Also, there is a lot of research showing that a positive mood leads to higher levels of productivity and creativity. So, when people do things to increase their life
satisfaction, they also make themselves more effective at work.”

Most of us are aware of“Is the glass half full or half empty ” test. If you pick the former, you’re an “optimist”; otherwise, you’re a “pessimist” . It’s not a black-or-white test, but it can
measure how one sees life.
试卷第 7 页,共 14 页
According to psychologist Lissy Ann Puno, most of us grow up wanting to be an optimist-a person who can see the good in any situation and can stay hopeful when facing challenges. For
some people, though, life happens and they start to see the glass half-empty instead. Pessimists
tend to see the wrong in every situation, and blame external factors and circumstances when things aren’t going their way.
Being continuously fed with bad news and disappointments can turn optimistic children
into adults that are critical of almost everything. For some, the shift becomes easier, being raised by pessimistic parents. Others still remain optimistic, thanks to a positive household growing up.
“This is why developing optimism in young children is significant for their development as adults,” said Lissy Ann. If adopted at an early age, this powerful personality quality can help
children grow into strong adults capable of handling life’s circumstances with confidence, courage, and hope. What parent wouldn’t want that for their children
“Children are seen as natural optimists,” Lissy Ann said. They come into this world with
unbiased (无偏见的) eyes and a pure heart that hasn’t been influenced by social expectations, life experiences, severe mental shock, or authority figures yet. Whether a child grows up to be
optimistic or not is part genetic and part environmental. “Childhood experiences, parent-child
connection, or authority figures will all have some influence,” she said. Although optimism (or the lack of it) could be passed down genetically, it can also be taught.
32 .What attitude do the people of“the half-empty glass” hold
A .Focusing more on the negative aspect.
B .Holding onto hope in every challenge.
C .Considering different reasons for situations.
D .Measuring life based on social expectations.
33 .What is mainly discussed about the shift into pessimists in Paragraph 3
A .Possible causes.
B .Proper treatments.
C .Obvious signs.
D .Common misunderstandings.
34 .Why is it important for children to be optimistic
A .It guarantees them a trouble-free life.
试卷第 8 页,共 14 页
B .It enables them to be incomparable in career.
C .It makes them mentally strong in adulthood.
D .It helps them meet their parents’ expectations.
35 .What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A .Children master interpersonal skills naturally.
B .Genetic factors decide how children see life.
C .Optimism strengthens parent-child connection.
D .Proper guidance helps raise optimistic children.

A future where insects make up a large part of the world’s diet is on the horizon. Despite the unpleasant nature of such cuisine, insects have been considered a delicacy in some parts of world for centuries. Their being low-fat and high-protein makes them a perfect choice for
reducing hunger. 36
Animal protein from livestock (家畜), such as cows, chicken and pigs, takes up 80 percent of the entire world’s farmland, despite only making up less than one-fifth of calories consumed
globally. 37 Thus it would support a variety of biodiversity as nature intended.
Insects such as grasshoppers, meal worms and crickets are packed full of protein with much higher vitamin levels than pork or beef. 38 Greenhouse gas emissions through this process are also very little, with insect waste making excellent fertilizer (肥料) for agricultural soil.
It seems that insects are an ideal solution for many issues the world today is faced
with. 39 Urban areas ofAsia, Europe and North America are most likely to associate insects with dirt instead of as a tasty meal.
Times are changing. The European Union last year declared that meal worms were safe for human consumption. Cricket protein powder is also increasing greatly in popularity, with Canada rapidly becoming the largest market for the product.
40 As we explore our solar system, efficient means of producing animal based-proteins will become vital. None are more efficient space-wise than insects. And the colonies of the future

could well find themselves enjoying fried crickets with a pint of beer while watching the Martian
sunset.
A .They also have a host of environmental benefits.
B .Insects reproduce quickly and have high growth rates.
C .Unlike agriculture, insects produce far fewer greenhouse gases.
D .They require little space, water and technology to raise compared to livestock.
E .However, making them a delicious cuisine can be a challenge in several cultures.
F .By freeing up livestock space, huge expanses of land could be returned to nature.
G .A future where insects will become invaluable to space exploration is also upcoming.

67 .阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was a freshman in high school, eager to start a new chapter in my life. Little did I knew that my journey would be marked by an unexpected friendship. My desk mate, Tom, was a
stutterer (结巴). Sometimes, it made me really uncomfortable.
The first day of school was exciting. I found my seat and settled in, only to be greeted by a nervous stutter from my deskmate. “H-Hello, I’m T-Tom,” he said. I tried to be polite. But inside, I felt embarrassed (尴尬). I was worried about how his stuttering would affect me, especially
during class discussions. I avoided him as much as possible, not wanting to be associated with the awkwardness he seemed to bring.
One day, during a particularly challenging math class, I was struggling to understand a
complex problem. The teacher, Mrs. Lee, noticed my confusion and asked if I needed help. Before I could answer, Tom spoke up. “I-I-I-I can help,” he offered, his stutter became mere noticeable
under the pressure. To my surprise, he explained the problem clearly, and I began to see him in a new light. His intelligence and kindness shone through his stutter, and I felt guilty (内疚的) for my previous behavior.
As the weeks went by, I started to pay more attention to Tom. My friends noticed the
change and asked about it. I shared my initial dislike and later admiration for Tom. They
encouraged me to give him a chance, reminding me that everyone has their struggles. My parents, too, noticed my shift in attitude and discussed the importance of empathy and understanding. They told me about the times they faced difficulties, showing me that everyone has strengths beyond
what people might see as weaknesses.
The turning point in our relationship came during the school’s annual talent show. Tom, despite his fear of public speaking, decided to take part in it.

1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;

67 . He chose to recite a poem he had written. As he stepped onto the stage, I could see his
hands shaking and his face turning red. But he took a deep breath and began. His stutter was still there, but his voice was filled with so much emotion and determination. The audience was silent, listening intently. When he finished, the room erupted in thunderous applause. I was on my feet, clapping the loudest, tears welling up in my eyes.
After the talent show, Tom andI became close friends. I no longer cared about his stutter but focused on the wonderful person he was inside. We studied together, shared our dreams and fears. I learned that true friendship isn’t about surface appearances or speech, but about accepting and
supporting each other unconditionally. Through Tom, I grew to be a more understanding and compassionate person. I realized that everyone has their battles to fight and that kindness and acceptance can make a world of difference in someone’s life.
