Tu Youyou, a committed and patient scientist, won the 2015 Nobel Prize for discovering artemisinin (青蒿素), a life-saving treatment for malaria. Her team faced many challenges: reviewing 2,000 ancient medical texts, testing 380 treatments, and failing over 190 times. Finally, they found that using low-temperature extraction preserved artemisinin’s medical properties. Tu even insisted on testing the medicine on herself to ensure its safety. After the success, she said the honor belonged to her team and Chinese medicine.
