1.Through friendship, we can become happier, wiser and more satisfied humans.
2. Naturally, this kind of openness results from a close friendship.
3.As a result, if we are guided only by our own feelings, our judgements might be one-sided.
①Exercise makes me ____________ (healthy), more energetic and more fulfilled.
②____________ (natural), I get upset when things go wrong.
③He got up late today. __________________, he missed the first bus.
1.We often find it easier to recognize other people's weaknesses than our own.
赏析:本句中it作形式宾语,不定式短语to recognize other people's weaknesses than our own是真正的宾语,easier为宾语补足语。
2.Finally, it should be pointed out that enjoying the company of a crowd is not the same as being with friends.
赏析:此处it should be pointed out that ...
①You'll ______________________ to talk things over with a friend.
②__________________________________ protecting the environment is everyone's responsibility.
1.As a result, if we are guided only by our own feelings, our judgements might be one-sided. On the other hand, our friends are better able to offer advice on important decisions that we all have to make. Also, when we want to talk our problems over with a friend, we have to put our thoughts into words first.
The first fruit of friendship is ..., The second fruit of friendship is ..., The third fruit of friendship is ..., Finally, ...

A
Once again, I was at a new school. So was a girl in my class named Paris. That was where the similarities ended.
I was tall and she was small.I was one of the oldest in the class while she was the youngest. My hair was thick, short and ugly while hers was long and beautiful.I was awkward and shy.She wasn't.I couldn't stand her, considering her my enemy. But she wanted to be friends.
One day, she invited me over and I said yes — I was too shocked to say no.Actually, no one had invited me to play before. But this girl, who wore the latest fashions, wanted to invite me.
She lived on the fourth floor in a two-room place. When we got to the room she shared with her sister, she took out a big case of Barbies — which was my next surprise.I would have thought she had outgrown (因长大而不适用……) them.I had never played with them. But we sat on the floor of a walk-in cupboard laughing as we made up crazy stories about the Barbies. That's when we found out that we both wanted to be writers when we were older. We both had wild imaginations.
We had a great time that afternoon. She showed me her outfits, which had mostly come from a designer clothing store down the block. The woman who owned it sometimes used her as a model for her newspaper ads and gave her clothes in exchange.
Paris charmed (吸引) the whole neighborhood. The bookstore owners lent her fashion magazines, the movie theater gave her free passes and the pizza place let her have free pieces.Soon I was included in her magic world. We slept over at each other's house and spent every free moment together.I let my hair grow out and learned to love being tall.
Paris, my first real friend since childhood, helped me get through my tough teenage years and taught me an amazing thing about making friends: Your “worst enemy” can turn out to be your best friend.

A.felt she had little in common with Paris
B.thought highly of Paris for being confident

2.The writer describes Paris as a girl who _____ .
A.knew how to exchange services

B.If you hate the differences between you and someone else, you'll be bored to death.
C.Never judge a person from his appearance.

B
There are three different kinds of friends in our life. I classify (分类) them according to how well I know them and how well they know me.
The first type of friend is just an acquaintance (熟人). This means that you only know their names. You might not even remember what they look like if you go away for a short vacation. You don't miss them when they are elsewhere. It is also this type of friend who gives you the most amount of aggravation (恼怒). Since most of the time you are placed in a position where you have to act friendly, you would not normally tell an acquaintance when he or she is doing something that makes you feel angry, such as tapping the fingers on a table or shouting loudly. I call them “pest friends”.
The second kind of friend is a “guest friend”. They are just social partners. You meet them at a certain location and at the end of the meeting you go your separate way and they go theirs. You don't talk too often with this sort of friend, and you don't share each other's secrets.
Lastly, we have “best friends”. This sort of friend is there when you need them. They know you as a person and they are there through thick and thin. Best friends are the ones that you can lean and depend on no matter what happens. If you need a listening ear, they will be the one to lend support.
Friends come in all different shapes and sizes. Every friend has an impact on our life.
5.According to the writer, when a friend of the first type acts in an annoying way, you ______.
A.can tell him/her about it directly
B.should stay away from him/her
C.should advise him/her to correct his/her behaviour
D.may find it hard to tell him/her not to do so

根据第二段中的“Since most of the time ... you would not normally tell an acquaintance when he or she is doing something that makes you feel angry”可知,在作者看来,当第一种朋友有恼人的行为时,你可能并不好意思直接跟他或她说不要这样做。
6.If someone is with you through thick and thin, it means ____.
A.he/she is your friend for sure
B.he/she agrees with whatever you say
C.you spend most of your time together
D.he/she is with you even when there are difficulties
根据第四段中的“This sort of friend is there when you need them ... that you can lean and depend on no matter what happens.”

7.What will most probably be talked about in the following paragraph?
A.How to make friends.
B.How friends influence our life.
C.How to improve friendship.
D.How to get along well with the third type of friend.
根据最后一段中的“Every friend has an impact on our life.”

8.What is this passage mainly about?
A.What a true friend is like.
B.Three kinds of friends in our life.
C.The role that friends play in our life.
D.Why there are different kinds of friends.

C
Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don't give friendship back. That is why some friendships don't last very long. To have a friend, you must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous (宽宏大量的); be understanding.
Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you do not tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven't been honest, you may lose your friend's trust. Good friends always rely on one another to speak and act honestly.
Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You do not have to give your lunch money or your clothes. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend. ______ tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them, you help your friend know better.
They
Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend's place so that you can understand the problem better.
No two friendships are exactly alike. But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friends, you must practice honesty, generosity and understanding.
9.Some friendships don't last long because _________ .
A.there are too many people who want to make friends
B.those who give others friendship receive friendship from others
C.some people receive friendship but don't give friendship back
D.they don't know friendship is something serious

根据第一段第一句“Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don't give friendship back.”
10.According to the passage, honesty is _________ .
A.something countable
B.the base of friendship
C.as important as money
D.more important than anything else
根据第二段第一句“Honesty is where a good friendship starts.”

11.In the third paragraph, the underlined word “They” refers to _________ .
A.generosity and friendship
B.generosity and sharing
C.your ideas and feelings
D.your clothes

根据第三段中的“Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend.”
12.What's the best title of this passage?
A.How to Be a Friend
B.Honesty Is the Best Policy
C.A Friend in Need Is a Friend Indeed
D.Three Important Points in Life

They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them, you help your friend know better.
