过去进行时基本概念
过去进行时表示在过去某一特定时间点或时间段，正在进行或发生的动作。强调动作在过去当时正在进行的状态，动作在过去没有结束，处于持续状态
常见时间标志词：at 8 o’clock yesterday，at this time last week
at that moment，from 7 to 9 last night，when, while
基本构成（肯定句）
过去进行时肯定句结构：
主语 + was/were + 动词的现在分词（-ing）
单数主语用was：I/he/she/it/单数名词
复数主语用were：we/you/they/复数名词
动词必须加-ing，遵循现在分词变化规则
肯定句例句
They were doing experiments at 9 yesterday.
昨天九点他们正在做实验。
The astronaut was walking in space at that time.
那时宇航员正在太空行走。
We were listening to the teacher carefully.
我们当时正在认真听老师讲课。
否定句结构
过去进行时否定句结构：
主语 + was not/wasn’t + were not/weren’t + 动词-ing
was not 缩写为 wasn’t，were not 缩写为 weren’t
在was/were后直接加not，动词形式不变
He wasn’t feeling well when he went into space.他进入太空时感觉不舒服。
They weren’t watching TV at 8 last night.昨晚八点他们没在看电视。
一般疑问句结构
一般疑问句结构：
Was/Were + 主语 + 动词-ing + 其他？
单数主语用Was开头，复数主语用Were开头
回答用Yes, 主语+was/were. 或 No, 主语+wasn’t/weren’t.
Were you doing your homework at 7 yesterday 昨天七点你在做作业吗？
Yes, I was. / No, I wasn’t.
Was the satellite travelling fast then 那颗卫星当时飞得快吗？
Yes, it was. / No, it wasn’t.
特殊疑问句结构
结构：特殊疑问词 + was/were + 主语 + 动词-ing？
常用疑问词：what, when, where, who等
用来询问过去某时正在做什么
例句：What were you doing at this time yesterday 昨天这个时候你在做什么？
Where was he standing when the accident happened 事故发生时他站在哪里？
Who were you talking to just now 你刚才在和谁说话
动词-ing变化规则
一般动词直接加-ing：do→doing，work→working
以不发音e结尾的动词，去e加-ing：write→writing
重读闭音节单词，双写末尾字母加-ing：run→running
以ie结尾的动词，变ie为y加-ing：lie→lying
用法一：过去特定时间点
表示在过去某个具体时刻正在进行的动作
常见时间标志：at…yesterday, at that time, at…last night
例句：At 10:00 yesterday, I was reading English.
例句：He was sleeping at that moment.
用法二：过去某段时间内
表示在过去某一段时间内一直在进行的动作
常见标志：from…to…yesterday, all morning yesterday
例句：They were having a meeting from 9 to 11 yesterday.
例句：She was practicing speaking all afternoon.
用法三：when和while引导的句子
when引导一般过去时的短句
表示一个短暂动作发生时，另一个长动作正在进行
主句用过去进行时，从句用一般过去时
例句：When I arrived, he was waiting for me.
while表示“当……时候”
强调两个动作同时在过去进行，主从句都使用过去进行时
while后面常接持续性动作
例句：While I was reading, he was drawing.

易混点：与一般过去时区别
过去进行时：强调过去正在进行
一般过去时：强调过去动作已经完成
例句：He was writing a letter last night.（昨晚一直在写）
例句：He wrote a letter last night.（昨晚写了一封信）
常见错误提醒
不能忘记使用was或were
错误：They doing homework.
正确：They were doing homework.
不能把was/were和did混用
错误：Were they did homework
正确：Were they doing homework
