Mirra stood on the tennis court, holding her tennis racket nervously. She had just made two serving (发球) mistakes and lost the first game of the match. The crowd was silent as she walked to her chair, remembering how the 17-year-old used to cry after such mistakes. But not today.
Six months earlier, Mirra had played in another important match. When she missed an easy shot, she got very angry. She threw her racket and cried. She lost that match—not because of poor skills, but because she couldn’t control (控制) her feelings and stay calm.
“Mirra, look at this,” her coach said the next day, showing videos of LeBron James’ interviews. The basketball star spoke about staying calm under pressure. “The real competition,” he said, “is always in your mind first.”
Now, in this big final match, Mirra remembered those words. She took deep breaths and wiped the sweat from her face. Her opponent (对手), Clara, looked confident. But Mirra stayed focused.
The score was very close. At an important moment, Clara hit what looked like a winning shot. But Mirra ran fast and hit the ball back perfectly. The crowd cheered loudly! In the second half of the match, Mirra played even better. When Clara had chances to score, Mirra stayed strong. She served the ball so well that Clara couldn’t hit it back.
When Mirra won the final point, she fell to her knees—but this time she was smiling, not crying. After the match, she told reporters, “Before, my feelings controlled me. Now I control them.” The next day, Mirra packed for her next match. Her gold medal shone in the sunlight, but the real “prize” shone even brighter.

Do you know someone who drinks energy drinks before exams or sports games Maybe you’ve even tried one yourself. Those colorful bottles have become a common sight in stores and teenagers’ backpacks. They promise to “boost (提升) your energy” and “help you focus”, but are these drinks truly good for students
Energy drinks usually contain caffeine, sugar, vitamins, and other ingredients like taurine or guarana. The name “energy drink” comes from their ability to make people feel more awake and focused. In other words, they can boost your energy, at least for a short time.
Energy drinks first appeared in Japan in the 1960s. They became popular in the United States in the 1990s with the introduction of brands like Red Bull. Today, energy drinks are sold worldwide, and their market has grown rapidly. According to a market study, sales increased by 73% between 2018 and 2023.
Energy drinks are especially popular among teenagers and young adults. Many students drink them to stay focused while studying, and players use them to improve performance in sports. Social media and colorful advertisements (广告) also play a big role in making them popular. In some countries, energy drinks are among the top-selling beverages for teenagers.
Although energy drinks are popular, they can be harmful. High levels of caffeine and sugar can cause sleep problems, nervousness, and even heart problems. A 2024 study found that about a third of children aged 12 to 17 drink energy drinks regularly, which may lead to higher levels of anxiety and stress. Health experts warn that these drinks are not safe for children and teenagers.
Some health organizations are calling for stricter rules, such as banning (禁止) the sale of energy drinks to people under 18. Schools and health groups also encourage young people to choose healthier ways to stay energized, like getting enough sleep, exercising regularly and eating a balanced diet.
Energy drinks may provide a quick energy boost, but they come with risks. Experts suggest that young people should be careful when buying these drinks and not rely on (依赖) them too much. After all, good health and energy come from healthy habits, not just a can of sweet drink.
29.What can we learn about energy drinks from the passage
A.They can make people feel relaxed and less worried.
B.They help students get high scores in their exams.
C.They are popular mainly because of the sweet taste.
D.They may cause some sleep and heart problems.
30.What may the writer agree with
A.Stores should stop selling energy drinks to people.
B.Energy drinks cannot provide any energy for us.
C.Teenagers can choose healthier ways to get energy.
D.Schools should make rules on how to have energy drinks.
31.What’s the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage
A.To encourage people to drink more energy drinks.
B.To explain the history of energy drinks.
C.To show the popularity of energy drinks.
D.To tell teenagers the risk of energy drinks.

You might think studying is something you should do alone. However, does it mean you should never try studying with someone Actually, having a study buddy, a friend who studies with you and makes you stay excited about learning, can really help you learn better
One of the best things about having a study buddy is that you get to collaborate. When you put two minds together, problem-solving becomes faster and more creative. Imagine you both want to improve your writing. Your friend might be able to see words you’ve misspelt, and you could help correct your friend’s grammar mistakes. Then, you could discuss and add finishing touches to your written work.
What’s more, problems become opportunities. Maybe your buddy is good at English but finds math difficult, while it’s the other way around for you. When you teach your friend how to solve a math problem, you start understanding it better. Scientists call this the “protégé effect”. It means one can get smarter by helping someone else learn.
With a study buddy, it’s easier to stay motivated (有驱动力的). By asking questions like, “Did you finish the reading ” or “Ready to quiz each other ”, you are holding each other accountable (负有责任的). This makes sure that both of you have your goals in mind and are doing your best.
The benefits of having a study buddy don’t end here. If you’re ready to give it a try, here’s how to start:
Choosing the right partner (同伴) matters. Look for someone who balances your strengths and weaknesses. If you are a creative thinker but poor at making plans, team up with a buddy who’s good at planning and managing (管理) time. Set achievable goals, such as learning 10 new words daily or reading one book every month. Set clear rules, like meeting weekly and never putting tasks off until the last minute. Don’t forget to celebrate small wins. Treat yourselves if both of you do well on an exam.
Remember, a study buddy isn’t just a homework helper—they are your partner in growth. By working together, you can get through challenges and discover the joy of learning as a team. So, pair up, and get ready to level up your grades—and your friendship!
32.According to the passage, a study buddy ________.
A.helps you to improve your study
B.does all of the difficult work for you
C.stays more excited about learning than you
33.The underlined word “collaborate” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.
A.challenge someone B.chat with others C.work with each other
34.What can we learn from Paragraph 3 about the “protégé effect”
A.Teaching others makes you a better learner.
B.Helping others learn brings you more friends.
C.Solving math problems improves your memory.
35.Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with
A.You’re more likely to put tasks off with a study buddy.
B.People with the same study habits make great study buddies.
C.A good study buddy not only helps you but also lets you help them.
第二部分
本部分共5题,共20分。根据题目要求,完成相应任务。
阅读表达(第34一36题每题2分,第37题4分,共10分)
There are spicy food lovers all around the world. A lot of people love to have spicy foods in their daily life. In China, we love hot peppers, hot chicken wings and we put spicy seasonings (调味品) on top of just about everything. Thankfully, spicy foods are generally good for us. They do more than add flavor (调味) to your favourite meals.
In fact, “spicy” is a burning feeling that you have on the surface of your tongue. That some people can stand spicy foods is because their tongues have become less sensitive to it. If you cannot stand the heat, you can drink milk or yogurt to help you cool down.
Spicy foods are good for your heart. People who regularly eat foods rich in spice are less likely to experience a heart attack or stroke (中风). Chili peppers provide three times more vitamin C than oranges. The unique chili pepper heat comes from capsaicin (辣椒素) which helps lower cholesterol (胆固醇) and reduces inflammation (炎症). Spicy foods also help prevent cancer. Turmeric (姜黄), which is the main spice in curry, has been shown to help slow the growth of certain cancer.
Spicy foods can even help you lose weight. After eating something spicy, you burn more calories and feel fuller. That is because spicy foods help reduce hunger, which can prevent overeating. Try adding some hot sauce to your next meal and see if you find a difference.
If you happen to be a spicy food lover, congratulations! Don’t wait to add spicy foods to your balanced diet!
36.Do many people in the world like eating spicy foods
