有些名词的同根词后接不定式，因而这些名词后也常接不定式作定语∶
promise(承诺)、plan(计划)、intention(打算，意图) decision(决定)、attempt(试图), wish(愿望), dream(梦想),desire(渴望), eagerness(渴望),determination(决心), need(需要)等。
不定代词 something、nothing、anything等后面也常用不定式作定语。
She kept her promise (to visit her aunt regularly).
She said she had no plans (to go there).
Her attempt (to locate them) was unsuccessful.
He has expressed a desire (to see you).
He had no wish (to start a fight).
I had no need (to open the letter) ─I knew what it would say.
