五、阅读表达。
Reading is enjoyable! Besides having fun, we can study texts to learn more and understand them better. One useful skill is finding out the theme of a text.
The theme of the text is the “big idea” that runs through the text. It connects characters and events, showing what the writer wants readers to learn. Themes can be ideas like family, friendship, love and so on. But the theme may not be included in just one word. Usually the theme of a text isn’t told directly. Make sure you know what the writer is saying. Here is how to find out the theme of a text.
Read the whole text. Usually characters change as the story goes on, so the theme you get at the beginning might not be true at the end! For this reason, you need to read through the whole text first. There may also be more than one theme in a story. Look for key events. After reading, try to answer the following questions. What problems did people face How were they solved What lessons did they learn The answers may help you to get the key events. Get the big idea. Check if the text focuses on topics like teamwork or family. For example, if people solve problems together, the big idea might be “Working together makes it easier to deal with difficulties. ” Check the big idea out. If you’ve found a “big idea”, go through the text to find a few key examples that support this idea in the text.
Try these steps with your favorite book or article, and you will understand the text better. Also, finding out the theme makes reading more meaningful.
1. What is the theme of a text
