Chongqing has excellent transportation and is known as a 3D city. The Chongqing rail transit connects the streets and alleys of Chongqing. If you want to understand the fireworks atmosphere of Chongqing, follow us into several representative subway stations.
Hong Yan Cun Station
As the world’s second deepest subway station, located 116 meters underground, equivalent to a 40 story skyscraper, this depth brings many design and construction challenges. The station adopts a single arch double-layer structure design, which not only meets the rationality of structural mechanics, but also adapts to the unique mountainous terrain of Chongqing.
Xiao Long Kan Station
This is the first subway graffiti art station in China with the theme of “forest graffiti”. The station is composed of twelve dark green graffiti columns in the station hall, graffiti lawn terraces painted on the staircase facade, dark green tree crowns, and navy blue ceilings, forming a “forest”. Chong Guang Station
The dazzling design of the entrance and exit 1 of the station is named “Ring of Light - Gate of All Things”. The design concept of “Wishful Tree” is adopted in the passage, combining neon light rings with indoor plants, allowing citizens to pass through it as if entering a fantasy forest. The construction of the entrance and exit of the “Ring of Light” has effectively achieved “zero distance” transfer and “seamless” connection between rail transit and commercial areas.
Lie Shi Mu Station
The station is filled with abstract graffiti, with bluestone roads, pine trees and plum blossoms, bird songs and laughter... hiding common imprints in the memories of Chongqing people. Soft light falls on the Chongqing style graffiti, and the scenery in the painting seems to be shrouded in a thin mist. The graffiti area at the Martyrs’ Tomb Station is 5000 square meters, which is about 1.5 times that of Xiaolongkan Station, and the indoor graffiti area is currently the largest in the country.

Xing Bin, a university lecturer in Linyi, Shandong Province, decided to volunteer as a food delivery driver for a month last December. As a university lecturer, he was used to a more sedentary (久坐的) lifestyle, but he was enthusiastic to push himself out of his comfort zone and experience life from a different perspective.
During the month, Xing worked tirelessly, delivering food to customers and facing the same challenges as other drivers. He worked more than 10 hours and took 30,000 steps each day. He lost 6 kilograms and earned a total of 7,000 yuan. On average, he earned 10 yuan each hour, and 20 yuan at most. “I was delivering food from early morning till late at night for around 13 hours a day,” Xing said, adding he could earn more by working at night.
In the process, Xing tasted the bitterness and the happiness of this job with his heart. Despite the long hours and physical demands, Xing found the work rewarding and gained a new-found appreciation for the hard work and dedication of delivery drivers.
Xing’s experience also clarified the challenges faced by delivery drivers in China’s gig economy. While some workers choose to work in the gig economy for its flexibility, others may prefer the stability of full-time employment. Delivery drivers often work long hours, face traffic and weather risks, and deal with difficult customers. Through his volunteer work, Xing learned the importance of understanding in our interactions with service workers. He thinks that by taking the time to understand their challenges and show appreciation for their work, we can create a more compassionate and respectful society.
Overall, Xing’s volunteer work serves as a reminder of the value of stepping outside our comfort zones and experiencing life from a different perspective. It can also have a positive impact on the community and the individuals we serve. By doing so, we can gain a deeper understanding of the world around us and develop greater compassion for others.
24. Why did Xing Bin volunteer as a food delivery driven
A. To experience a different lifestyle. B. To challenge other ways of working.
C. To prepare for his following lectures. D. To change his own physical condition.
25. What can we learn about Xing’s work from paragraph 2 and paragraph 3
A. It is hard but meaningful. B. It is boring but profitable.

26. What should we do when interacting with service workers according to Xing Bin
A. Appreciate their spirit of helping others. B. Put ourselves in their shoes.
C. Have a good communication atmosphere. D. Help them finish their work
27. What is the text mainly about
A. The importance of community in social life.
B. The popularity and flexibility of delivery jobs.
C. An experience of volunteering for service work.
D. An inspiring story about realizing a career dream.
C
While family fun is often connected with new and exciting activities, family leisure (休闲) spent at home may be a better way to find happiness, according to a study. “That may be because when the brain is focused on new information, such as taking part in an unfamiliar activity with unfamiliar people in a new location, less ‘brain power’ is left to focus on the family relationships,” said lead author Karen Melton.
While research results suggest that all quality time together helps to lead to satisfaction with family life, “all family leisure is not equal,” she said. “The best predictor (预示物) of happiness for families may be spending quality time together in familiar activities inside the home. And that’s great news for families who have little time or few resources.”
For the study, researchers followed 1, 502 people in 884 families in the United Kingdom. Each family taking part in the online research had at least one child between the ages of 11 and 15. They answered questions about whether they took part in family leisure in the past year and if so, what activities (from 16 types) they did, how much time they spent doing them and how frequently they did so.
The study showed that the expression “The family that plays together stays together!” is not always true. “Family members can also express stress and anger as well as pleasure during leisure time.” Melton said. “The activities alone will not heal the wounds of hurting families.”
Melton noted that some studies support the idea that eating together is one of the best predictors of happiness for families, while watching TV is seen as less helpful for people’s happiness. But families should question one-size-fits-all ideas. “For some families, quality togetherness is having dinner together or playing games; for others, it may be hobbies, videos, TV or music,” Melton said. “At the end of the day, what matters is that we are social beings who want to belong to a group and have close relationships.”
28. According to the study, which activity may bring the most happiness to a family
A. Watching a movie at home.
B. Traveling to another city.
C. Climbing a mountain with strangers.
D. Attending a community event with neighbors.
29. What do Karen Melton’s words in Paragraph 4 suggest
A. Family members always argue with each other.
B. Family members sometimes need some time alone.
C. Family leisure makes it hard to share your true feelings.
D. Family leisure can include sharing positive and negative feelings.
30. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Happy families often take part in creative activities.
B. It is important that family members have common interests.
C. Different families have different ways to spend quality time.
D. It is hard for some families to find the perfect family leisure.
31. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. Family leisure can do good to your health.
B. Fun at home makes your family happier.
C. How to organize good family activities at home
D. Why should we spend more time with loved ones
D
Today, friendships can develop between people from different countries or even different time zones. Social media and online platforms (平台) help people stay connected, no matter where they are. However, this convenience also has downsides. Traditional friendships usually grow from spending time together in person, having deep talks, or sharing important experiences. But nowadays online friendships often depend on short messages, funny pictures (like memes), or quick comments, which don’t create the same strong bond.
When we chat online, we miss important emotional signals such as tone of voice, facial expressions, and body language. Psychologist Albert Mehrabian found that these nonverbal signals make up about 70% of a conversation’s emotional meaning. While emojis (表情符号) and GIFs help fill the gaps, they’re not enough. Dr. Susan Pinker, a researcher, says that digital friendships can feel shallow because people tend to focus on information sharing rather than the expression of true feelings.
Meeting friends in person actually makes our brains release dopamine (多巴胺), a chemical that makes us feel happy. Studies show that people who see their friends’ social media posts get 50% less dopamine than those who meet face-to-face. That’s why online interactions can leave us feeling more tired than satisfied.
But we don’t have to give up online friendships entirely — we can make them more meaningful. One idea is using virtual (虚拟的) characters that imitate real-life gestures and expressions. Another trend is “Screen-free Saturdays”, where people take a break from digital devices to focus on real-world connections. Some friendships, like those among online games, even combine both online and offline interactions — they play games together virtually and also meet in person when possible.
32. How are online friendships different from traditional ones
A. Online friendships involve deeper emotional connections.
B. Traditional friendships can better connect people globally.
C. Online friendships are based on relatively surface-level communications.
D. Traditional friendships don’t involve as much fun as online friendships.
33. What does the phrase “the gaps” underlined in paragraph 2 refer to
A. Lack of knowledge about digital platforms. B. Missing emotional signals of emojis and GIFs.
C. Lack of response time during communication. D. Missing emotional depth in digital conversations.
34. Why do people feel more tired than satisfied after online interactions.
A. Because people don’t share true feelings in online interactions.
B. Because online interactions require more energy and brain work.
C. Because online interactions produce less joy-bringing dopamine.
D. Because people never take breaks from digital devices when interacting online.
35. What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. The effect of face-to-face meeting on friendships.
B. Ways to improve the quality of online friendships.
C. The decline of traditional friendships in the digital age.
D. Ways to strengthen traditional friendships in the digital age.

I grew up in a small town where the primary school was ten minutes’ walk from my home. So I would rush back home for lunch.
One lunchtime when I was in the fourth grade will always be kept in my mind. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play. However, no matter how smoothly I read lines at home, the moment I stepped onstage, every word escaped me. Finally, my teacher took me aside, explaining in a kind voice, “I had written the narrator’s (旁白) part in the play. Are you willing to change roles ” I had to hold back tears as I nodded, watching helplessly my part go to another girl.
I felt too ashamed to tell my mother what happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed I was different, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day with the rose vine turning green. Under the huge tree, we could see bunches of yellow dandelions (蒲公英) in the grass as if a painter had touched our landscape with dabs of gold. I watched my mother casually bend down by one dandelion. “I think I’m going to clear all the weeds (草),” she said, pulling it out by its roots. “You see, we’ll have only beautiful roses in this garden.”
“But I like dandelions.” I protested. “All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions.”
My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn’t it ” She asked thoughtfully. I gave her an approving nod, secretly pleased that the dandelions could survive my mom’s wedding plan. “And that is true of people too,” she continued. “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that.” Relieved that she had guessed my pain, I couldn’t help breaking into tears.

____________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】I told her what had happened. She listened and smiled reassuringly. “You will be a beautiful narrator,” she encouraged, “The narrator’s part is as important as the part of a princess.” Wearing a shining smile, my beloved mother comforted me as always she did. Her words reminded me of how much I loved to read stories aloud to her. Over the next weeks, with her constant encouragement, I learned to take pride in the role. Lunchtimes were spent reading over my lines painstakingly and talking about what I would wear.
Finally came the big day. Waiting backstage, I suddenly felt nervous, but it was at that very moment that I found a dandelion in my pocket. Looking at it, I knew my mother was out there for me, which calmed me down and brought me power. My performance turned out to be a great success. And I firmly believed the princess couldn’t have won such thunderous applause without my beautiful narration. Since then, the dandelion, a gift from my mother, has always inspired me to be a confident girl.
