I was sitting in a Beijing cafe drinking a coffee with my friend. We were at a table looking out a window into a hutong. Many people were walking past us, but one Chinese couple stopped and stared. I smiled and waved back. Then, to my surprise, they took a photo of us! The lady even came up to the window and posed in front of us for another photo. It was very funny and we were all laughing.
A few weeks later, I was visiting the beautiful coastal city of Xiapu with two friends. People stared at us and wanted to say hello everywhere we went. It was like we were famous people!
So why were we getting so much attention I think it’s because even though there are many foreigners, like me, living in China today, they are still kind of “rare (罕见的)”. This is especially true in smaller cities, where there are fewer foreigners. This is probably why we were so popular in Xiapu, but didn’t get as much attention in Beijing.
But China is not the only place this happens. I have traveled to India, Brazil, Peru and even the United States and been treated differently, too.
Brazilians and US people always want to talk with you, but Indians are by far the most curious (有好奇心的). When I visited, children and adults were always staring and taking pictures. The best way to deal with it is just to smile, laugh and enjoy it!

·How to greet
They usually used “zuoyi” gesture (作揖礼). To make this gesture, one needs to bow at an angle (角度) of 30 to 45 degrees with hands folded in the front. The rules are different for men and women. For men, the left hand is put over the right hand. But for women, the right hand is on the top. The Duke（君主）of Zhou created the gesture during the West Zhou Dynasty. Folding one’s hands shows others that you don’t have anything dangerous and haven’t come to fight.
· How to serve guests
When guests come, an old custom is that a host should welcome guests with boiled tea. Boiling tea is one of the oldest ways of brewing Chinese tea. It started in the Tang Dynasty. Nowadays, weilu zhucha (围炉煮茶) is getting popular again among Chinese young people. They like to sit around a stove, boil tea on it, eat some snacks and have a talk.
·How to say goodbye
In ancient China, when people parted with friends, they always used willow (柳树) branches as a gift. One reason is that willow trees are strong. They can live anywhere, wet or dry, north or south. Because of this, giving a willow branch to say goodbye to loved ones is a way to tell them that you hope they will easily adapt to their new living environment. Meanwhile, the pronunciation for the willow tree “liu” is similar to the Chinese character “liu”, which means asking someone to stay.
It’s said that this custom became popular during the Han Dynasty. At that time, Baqiao, a bridge in Chang’ an was a common place to say goodbye.

Hello, everyone. It’s our duty to protect and improve our school environment. I think each of us can do something.

The Most Useful Invention
Mobile phones are one of the most useful inventions. It was invented by an American called Martin Cooper in 1973.
I should say that the mobile phones have really changed our lives. First, it’s more convenient to communicate with others by using the mobile phones. Second, people are used to taking photos with mobile phones instead of cameras. And we can even go shopping, listen to music and watch movies on the phone. Third, we can easily learn something useful by surfing online. In this way, it helps us study.
