Recently, China has introduced the Lucky Horse as the mascot (吉祥物) for the 2026 Chinese New Year. It will be used in Chinese New Year celebrations worldwide.
Lin Cunzhen, leader of the design team at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, said horses carry deep meanings in many cultures. She hopes the mascot will help people around the world feel closer to Chinese New Year, Chinese culture and the zodiac (生肖) tradition.
The Lucky Horse is designed based on the Han Dynasty bronze statue Bronze Galloping Horse Treading on a Flying Swallow (马踏飞燕青铜器). Its flowing mane (飘逸的鬃毛）is styled after the “wuhua ma”, a popular Tang Dynasty horse image. Colored in Chinese red, it has lucky cloud and traditional ruyi patterns, bringing a happy and warm festival feeling.
In recent years, Chinese New Year mascots have become popular both inside and outside China. They have appeared on buses in Rome and Bangkok, and been given as gifts to foreign leaders, helping overseas Chinese stay connected to their culture.
As more countries celebrate Chinese New Year, the festival has become a cultural communication bridge. The Lucky Horse follows this tradition, spreading joy and cultural connections around the world.

Creative video makers (创意视频博主) are using AI to bring famous people from history like Tang Dynasty poets Li Bai and Du Fu to modern life. These videos are very popular, and they show these well-known ancient people talking in our everyday modern language.
In one video, Du Fu talks about his experience during the An-Shi Rebellion (安史之乱) (755-763). In another, Ming Dynasty doctor Li Shizhen jokes about(调侃) modern living habits, like people drinking goji berry (枸杞) water to stay healthy but still staying up very late every night.
“The videos make me want to learn more about these important ancient people. I didn’t know much about their stories before,” said Wang Jiayi, a 15-year-old student from Shandong.
This new kind of popular video isn’t liked by everyone, though. Because in some of these videos, the ancient people speak loudly and always asking questions, the way they speak annoys some people. “ They are too pushy(强人所难), and this is not how they really were,” said 14-year-old Wang Shuotong from Jiangsu. Xia Boen, a 14-year-old boy from Hubei, felt the same as Wang Shuotong. In a real fire, there isn’t time to get these. Your teachers will stand together on the square by the library. When you are there, find your class and line up. Then your teachers will check your names. You mustn’t talk, jump or run during the fire practice. These safety rules are very useful and important to us. Please remember all the rules. Thank you!
