A Day at Wild Valley Nature Park
Wild Valley Nature Park is a special place where visitors can observe animals in their natural habitats. Last Saturday, Class 8B visited the park for a field trip. Before entering, their teacher, Mr. Lee, explained three key rules:
1 Stay on the wooden paths (to protect plants and avoid disturbing animals).
2 Do not use flash photography (bright lights scare nocturnal animals like owls).
3 No feeding any animals (human food harms their health).
The students first explored the deer meadow. A girl named Mia quietly took photos without flash, while a boy, Jack, tried to offer his sandwich to a deer. A park ranger quickly stopped him and said, “Feeding them can cause stomach problems!”
Later, in the rainforest zone, two boys left the path to get closer to monkeys swinging in the trees. Their loud voices startled the monkeys, who jumped away angrily. Mr. Lee reminded everyone, “Rules are here to keep both animals and us safe.”
Before leaving, the class watched a documentary in the park’s cinema. It showed how breaking rules—like littering or trampling flowers—destroys habitats over time. “Without rules,” the film warned, “this beautiful park would disappear.”

Different schools around the world have different rules. Some of these rules might seem unusual. Let’s take a look at a few of them!
In some parts of the US, students can ride horses to school. They have special places to tie (拴) up their horses and keep them safe. This is because riding horses is a common (常见的) way of getting around in those places.
In South Korea, students not only wear uniforms during school but also on their way to and from school. This is to show discipline (纪律) even outside of class. You might see groups of students wearing the same uniforms. They often wait for the bus or walk together.
In Germany (德国), students have a rule to call their teachers. They use formal (正式的) titles like “Herr” or “Frau”. They do this to show respect for the teachers. It’s important for them to be polite and respectful to their teachers all the time.
In Finland, students have a special rule. No matter the weather, they always have outdoor playtime. Even if it’s raining or snowing, they go outside to play games in nature. This is because they believe playtime is important for learning and well-being (健康).
These unusual school rules show us how different countries have their different ways of doing things. It’s interesting to see how rules can be special and show the values and traditions of each place.

Family rules help children to learn what is and isn’t OK in the family. Following them can help children learn to follow rules in other places, so it’s good for you to make rules early (早). As parents, when you make family rules, talk about them with your children. They will be happy. Good family rules are easy (容易的) for children to understand. For example, “Go to bed before nine o’clock!” is good. “It’s important to go to bed early!” isn’t. And, good family rules tell children what to do, NOT what not to do. For example, “Keep your room tidy!” is good. “Don’t put your things everywhere!” isn’t. People forget (忘记) things easily, so it’s good to write down the rules and put them somewhere everyone can see. There are times when family rules need to change. For example, when your child gets older, you can make rules about helping with housework. It’s good to let your children join you in making changes to the rules.
