Plastic waste is an increasingly serious problem. Up to now, only 9% of the plastics ever produced have been recycled. The rest remain on earth for hundreds of years. They are washed out into the ocean to become rubbish, harm wildlife and break down into small plastics that can enter our bodies.
Recently, scientists have developed a new method to break down plastic waste with the help of water in the air.The researchers mixed a special metal and activated carbon (活性炭) with PET, the most common type of polyester (聚酯纤维) plastic. Then they heated the composite. After a short time, this broke the chemical connections in the polyester. Next, when the team left the material in the air, the mixture turned into TPA, a polyester material, and acetaldehyde (乙醛), an industrial chemical. Finally, these valuable chemical materials were recycled.
After the first success, researchers tested the method on different plastics and found it worked on polyester plastic only. That meant they didn’t need to separate different kinds of plastics. Also, when they added water, it stopped working because the amount (量) of water in the air was just right.
The team’s next plan will be to use the method widely in industry.
“It’s hopeful that our technology can hugely reduce plastic pollution, lower the environmental footprint of plastics and help materials be reused instead of being thrown away,” researchers said. “It’s a large change towards a cleaner, greener future, and it shows how creative chemistry can solve world challenges in a way that joins hands with nature.”

In the digital age, artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer a concept from science fiction; it is a part of our daily reality. From the moment we wake up and use voice assistants to the recommendations we receive on video platforms, AI is everywhere.
One of the most significant impacts of AI is in the field of healthcare. Doctors are now using AI to analyze medical images with incredible accuracy, often detecting diseases like cancer earlier than human doctors. This technology is saving lives by providing faster and more precise diagnoses.
In the workplace, AI is changing the nature of jobs. While it is true that some routine tasks are being automated, leading to job losses in certain sectors, AI is also creating new opportunities. Jobs that require creativity, emotional intelligence, and complex problem-solving—skills that machines do not possess—are becoming more valuable. Therefore, the future workforce needs to adapt by developing these uniquely human skills.
However, the rise of AI also brings ethical concerns. Issues such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the potential for misuse are serious challenges that society must address. We need clear regulations to ensure that AI is developed and used responsibly.
In conclusion, AI is a double-edged sword. It offers tremendous benefits but also poses significant risks. It is up to us to guide its development and ensure that it serves the common good.
46.What is the main idea of the first paragraph
A.AI is only found in movies. B.AI is becoming part of daily life.

C.By making diseases more dangerous. D.By stopping people from getting sick.
48.What kind of jobs are becoming more valuable according to the passage
A.Jobs that require creativity and emotional intelligence. B.Jobs that involve simple, repetitive tasks.
C.Jobs that only machines can do. D.Jobs that have no future.

C.relating to financial profit D.relating to artistic expression
50.What is the author’s attitude towards AI
A.Completely negative. B.Completely positive.

The Power of Music on the Brain
Have you ever wondered why listening to music makes you feel so good Scientists have discovered that music doesn’t just entertain us; it actually changes our brains in surprising ways.

Children who learn to play an instrument often perform better in math and language. Furthermore, music therapy is being used to help patients with Alzheimer’s disease remember forgotten memories.
