Living in a foreign culture can be exciting, but it can also be confusing (令人迷惑的).Recently, three English teachers who had taught in other countries shared their experiences.
On the first day in Micronesia, Lisa thought people didn't notice her. It was a hot day.She went into a store and asked,"Do you have cold drinks "The woman there said nothing.Lisa asked again, but the woman still didn't speak. Later, Lisa learned that the woman had answered her by raising her eyebrows(眉毛), which means"yes" in Micronesia.
Jenny had a similar experience in Bulgaria. She went to a restaurant known for its cabbage. She asked the waiter,"Do you have cabbage today "He nodded his head. Jenny waited, but the cabbage never came. In that country, a nod means"no".
Tom had the same trouble in India. After explaining something in class, he asked his students if they understood. They answered with many different nods and shakes of the head.He thought some didn't understand, so he explained again. When he asked again, they did the same. He soon discovered that, in India, people nod or shake their heads depending on where they come from. You need to know where a person is from to understand whether they mean"yes" or"no".

A. They put up hands. B. They nod heads.
C. They shake heads. D. They raise eyebrows.

History is full of young inventors. For example, Lu Ban came up with the idea of the ruler in his childhood. Benjamin Franklin invented swim flippers (脚蹼) at the age of 12.Last year, 6-year-old Kate Smith created her invention for baby medical treatment. The stories of the young inventors remind people of children's great creativity. Scientists agree that children are more creative than adults, and they have the power to create new things.
Every invention starts with a wish to explore (探索). Children have a spirit of discovery, which drives them to ask questions, explore problems, and try to solve them. LilyPeterson, at the age of 9, created the ice cream stick just because she wanted to hold her cold ice cream without mess. But the simple invention has changed the way we eat ice cream, making it easier and more enjoyable for people of all ages.
What's more, children can learn things quickly and like turning new knowledge into practice. They are not afraid to try out their ideas, and at the same time, they enjoy the sense of pride. It makes them take an active part in scientific experiment (实验) and create unexpected ideas.

The Chihuahuan Desert in West Texas is larger than any other desert in North America. The winters there are cool and summers are very hot. This area is also home to a mysterious phenomenon(现象) called the Marfa Lights.
The Marfa Lights are bright lights that appear in the night sky all of a sudden and then fly to faraway places quickly and disappear. They are about the size of basketballs and are often described as white, blue, yellow, red, or other colors. The lights sometimes even get close to people's houses. The lights have been around for many years. One woman who lived on a farm in the 1960s told the story of what she experienced one night. She was in bed and suddenly she saw the lights shining through her bedroom window. She watched them change color for a few minutes. Finally, they went away.Pilots who used to train in the desert in the 1940s also reported that they once saw these mysterious lights.
What causes this phenomenon People have different opinions on this. A popular interpretation is the lights might have something to do with headlights from cars on the road nearby. Scientific research also suggests that some of the lights are caused by the refraction (折射) of light between layers (层)of air. However, not all of them can be explained so easily.
Anyway, people will continue to study the lights to find out where they come from. No matter what these lights really are, they are as mysterious today as when they first appeared. But it is certain that the mystery behind them will be solved one day.
( )66. Which of the following is TRUE about the Marfa Lights
A. They move slowly. B. They only have three colors.
C. They appear in the late afternoon. D. They are about the size of basketballs.

C. To explain the lights are dangerous. D. To explain how the lights are formed.
( )68. What does the underlined word" interpretation" mean
A. Guess. B. Suggestion. C. Problem. D. Purpose.
( )69. What is the writer's attitude (态度) towards solving the mystery of the lights
A. Hopeful. B. Worried. C. Uninterested. D. Doubtful.

Happy people never stop trying to be happy. Here are some of the habits of happy people.
They slow down. Sometimes we think too much and work all the time, so we don't have time to look around. Happy people, however, take time to enjoy the taste of their meal, notice the world's beautiful colors, or simply walk outside to breathe fresh air. They understand that life isn't just about"doing", but also about"feeling and experiencing".
They exercise. Getting our bodies moving for only 10 minutes can make us happy. Happy people often exercise because they know it helps them get in and stay in a good mood (情绪). Even a short walk can clear the mind and lift the spirits.
They get enough sleep. While we sleep, our brains work again and clean themselves. Happy people put sleep first. They know a good rest helps them face the next day with a smile.
They have deep talks. Happy people don't say meaningless things with people. They pay attention to building meaningful relationships. By talking openly and listening carefully, they learn from others and grow closer to them. These real conversations make them feel understood and valued.
They spend money on other people. Research shows that spending money on others makes us much happier than spending it on ourselves. For example, happy people often do small things like buying a friend a book they like. Seeing the joy on their friends' face makes them feel warm and connected.
71. What do happy people think life is about besides"doing"
72. How long do people only need to exercise to feel happy
73. What do happy people put first
74. How do happy people learn from others and grow closer to others
75. What can you do to be happy after learning the last way (Your answer should be different from the example in the text.)

An Unexpected Surprise
Life is full of surprises.
Last Tuesday was my fourteenth birthday. I woke up early and got dressed quickly. My mother was busy preparing breakfast in the kitchen, and my father was getting ready for work. It seemed that no one remembered my birthday, so I felt disappointed and went to school. All day, none of my friends said anything special to me. After school, I went to the park as usual. By the time I arrived, my family and friends were all there waiting for me. I was so surprised. Later, we had my birthday party together.
What a surprising and sweet day it was!
评分原则:1. 本题满分15分,按五个档次赋分;
2. 评分时,先根据短文的内容要点初步确定其所属档次,然后用该档次的语言要求来衡量、核定档次,最后给分;
3. 短文中如果出现真实的人名、校名和地名,酌情减分。
