Ghofran Shamseldin, a girl from Sudan, first learned about Chinese culture in high school through a book, an Arabic translation of Yu Hua’s novel To Live. The book tells about a poor farmer who faces many difficulties and loses almost everyone he loves, but he never gives up. “The book deeply touched me. It made me understand that just being alive, even with pain and loneliness, is the deepest form of strength (力量). So I decided to learn Chinese,” said Shamseldin.
At that time, Shamseldin could still see, though she had an eye problem. Over the next few years, her condition got worse. When she studied Chinese at the University of Khartoum, she could only read by shining a flashlight on the pages to see the shapes of the Chinese characters (汉字).
In 2019, Shamseldin got a chance to study as an exchange student in China. Although she needed help getting around the school, she managed to cook and wash clothes on her own. “My new classmates and friends didn’t know about my condition at first-it wasn’t easy to tell. Every time, I had to find a way to explain. It wasn’t easy, but by doing so, I learned to accept myself,” Shamseldin says.
In July, 2024, Shamseldin returned to Sudan. But war broke out, her family had to move many times until they finally settled down (安顿下来) the next year. Life became hard for them. Just as she felt completely hopeless, she was offered a job to teach Chinese online at her old college.
A few months later, she couldn’t see completely. She experienced her second “reading” of To Live-this time by listening to it. “I think Chinese has a magic power. Re-reading the hardships (艰难) of the main character gives me the strength to face difficulties,” she says “It’s like the sunshine in my life that helps me go through the darkness.”

When you play sports or move your body, your muscles (肌肉), bones (骨头) and heart all feel good. Sports and exercise make you happy and strong from the inside out.
Why does playing sports feel so good The mind and the body are connected, so when you are active and move your bodies, your minds usually feel better. This is because sports help reduce pressure. Lildonia Lawrence, a health coach, says paying attention to how your body feels can help you better understand your thoughts and feelings. “Think of a time when you’ve ridden a bike down a hill and felt the wind against your face,” she added.
Studies show that if you play sports and do things that make your heart beat faster, you will feel happier and more sure of yourself. This can be helpful when you feel worried or sad. Playing sports also helps the brain work better. It improves memory and helps think more clearly. This is because exercise brings new ideas and happiness to your mind. “Some students walk around the playground during the break. Others start their classes with simple yoga and breathing. These help them feel calm and ready to learn,” she suggests.
Lawrence also suggests listing a few kinds of exercise that you enjoy. It doesn’t matter what they are, the aim is to find out what feels good for you. Spend time outdoors, play ball games with friends, walk the dog or dance to music. These all make a positive (积极的) difference. Then, if you suddenly notice you are nervous, you can turn to your list and get going.

The 2026 CCTV Spring Festival Gala amazed people around the world with its cool mix of technology and traditional culture. Different from past years, the 2026 Gala used new technologies like AI, 3D projection and VR, wonderfully showing a new look of Chinese culture.
The most shocking act was the “Wu BOT”. These 1.8-meter-tall H2 robots, wearing red martial arts robes (武术袍服), performed with students from Tagou Martial Arts School. They did backflips (后空翻), sword dances (剑舞), and even the classic Drunken Fist (醉拳). What amazed people most was that some robots even finished difficult moves while running, which no one had ever seen before in the world! This performance was not only a wonder of modern technology, but also a fascinating show of the beauty of Chinese martial arts.
In another program, dancers moved to the beat of traditional folk music. 3D projections turned the whole stage (舞台) into a lively, old Chinese painting. It looked like the performers were walking inside a valuable work of art. At the same time, AI technology played a key role in “making history come alive”. It helped bring back the sounds of old musical instruments. People all lost themselves in the beautiful, classical songs that had been silent for hundreds of years.
While using these new technologies, the Gala stayed true to the heart of traditional arts. And it showed many traditional art forms, such as Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera, folk songs and fine paper cuttings. These acts were much more than just fun to watch. They were lively ties to our past. They carried the deep memories and feelings that Chinese people have for their hometowns and cultural roots.
The 2026 Spring Festival Gala showed us technology is not here to take the place of our traditions, but a good tool that makes them shine even brighter. By mixing the old and the new, we can pass on Chinese traditional culture to the young in a more creative way.
12.What was the most amazing part about the “Wu BOT” performance
A.They wore red martial arts robes.
B.They danced with martial arts students.
C.They did difficult moves while running.
13.Why did the writer mention Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera and paper cuttings
A.To compare them with the robot show.
B.To show the Gala still values traditional arts.
C.To explain how AI was used in each performance.
14.What does the writer think of the role of technology in culture
A.It has no place in cultural events.
B.It can make traditions more creative.
C.It might take the place of traditional performances.
15.Which of the following best shows the structure of this passage
(①=Paragraph1, ②=Paragraph2...)
A.①/②③④/⑤ B.①②/③/④⑤ C.①/②③/④⑤

In the northern dark sea, there is a fish, known as Kun (北冥有鱼,其名为鲲). Have you ever imagined the scene from an ancient tale by Zhuangzi Recently, a natural wonder at the Yellow River Delta in Shandong, brings this famous line to life.
On December 7, 2025, something wonderful happened. More than 240,000 Baikal teals (花脸鸭) gathered in the sky. Against the golden sunset, they flew together in a huge, ever changing group, sometimes like a huge whale, sometimes like a great bird spreading its wings. Seeing the scene, people were amazed and called it the real “Kunpeng” from Zhuangzi’s tale. Soon, the topic “Kunpeng in the northern sea is real” spread widely online.
This amazing event is known as a “bird wave”. It is not magic, but a smart skill. Scientists say birds fly in such large groups mainly to save energy during long journeys and stay safe from enemies. By flying together, they help each other move more easily through the air.
The appearance of the bird wave is also a sign of successful environmental protection. The Yellow River Delta Wetland was once poor land, but after years of people’s efforts like adding water and turning farmland back into wetland, it has now become an important home and rest stop for millions of migratory birds (候鸟).
To protect the birds, local government advises visitors to keep at least 100 meters away, avoid using drones (无人机) nearby and never feed the birds. This event wonderfully connects ancient imagination with natural beauty and the achievements of modern environmental protection. Let’s enjoy the beauty of nature!

The Power of Qiji
To me, “Qiji galloping, unstoppable” means that youth should be full of energy and courage to overcome difficulties. I experienced this power when preparing for a long-distance race. At first, I felt tired and wanted to give up. But I kept running, step by step, just like a galloping horse. Finally, I reached the finish line successfully.
This “unstoppable” power made me realize that perseverance brings victory. It gave me great confidence and joy. I believe that as long as we keep moving forward bravely, nothing can stop us from achieving our dreams.
