In traditional Chinese culture, there are many famous stories about how to raise and educate children. The story of “Mencius’s Mother Moves Three Times” is one of them. It tells us how important the environment is for a person’s growth.
The story happened in ancient China. Mencius became a great thinker in Chinese history. When he was a child, his mother moved house three times to provide him with a good growing environment. First, they lived near a cemetery. Young Mencius started learning games about funerals from other children. His mother thought this was not good, so she decided to move. Next, they moved next to a marketplace. Mencius then began to learn how to buy, sell, and shout like merchants. His mother still thought this was not good for his growth. Finally, they moved near a school. Here, Mencius started to learn manners and knowledge. His mother was finally satisfied. She believed this was the right place for her child. Later, Mencius studied hard and became a great scholar.
This story shows that traditional Chinese parenting values the influence of the external environment on a child’s behavior and character. Parents believe that choosing a place with a positive atmosphere for their children, such as being near places that encourage learning and good behavior, can help children develop good habits and noble morals.

“I didn’t do anything!” “Say you’re sorry!” “It’s not my fault!”
Sound familiar If so, you are like a lot of kids who sometimes argue with their friends or family members. It’s not always easy to get on with others. Kids aren’t perfect, so they sometimes do things that get them into trouble. Saying “I’m sorry” or apologizing can help.
Kids might need to apologize if they hurt someone or lost someone’s things. They might need to apologize if they broke something, or if they did something they knew was wrong—like telling a lie or breaking a rule. Maybe they did something their parents told them not to do, or maybe they didn’t do something they were expected to do.
There are many ways to apologize. Here are some examples: “I’m sorry I hurt your feelings.” “I’m sorry I lost your book.” “I’m sorry I yelled at you.” “I’m really sorry I hit you when I was mad. That was wrong. I won’t do it anymore.” When you apologize to someone, he or she might apologize back to you: “That’s OK, I’m sorry, too. I shouldn’t have laughed at you.” And then maybe you can both feel friendly again.
Sometimes a heartfelt “I’m sorry” fixes everything right away. Other times, it might take a while for someone to feel friendly after you apologize. You might need to give the other person some time. Even after you say you’re sorry, you might still feel bad about what you said or did—but you can feel good about apologizing and about making up your mind to do better.

Maria’s little sisters, Anna and Olivia, were fighting, so Maria went to their room.
“What is going on here ” Maria asked. Her sisters looked angrily at each other. There were clothes all over the floor.
“Well, Anna took my green shirt,” Olivia said. “It is my favourite one. She took it without asking and made it dirty.”
“It isn’t my fault,” said Anna. “My friend Greg dropped his chocolate on me. Then Olivia started shouting at me and threw out all of my clothes.”
“Okay,” said Maria. “In my opinion, Anna, you took Olivia’s shirt without asking. Then you got it dirty at school. Though you didn’t directly dirty the shirt, it is your responsibility because you took it.” Anna nodded.
“Olivia, shouting at your sister and throwing her clothes won’t help. Why don’t you calm down and talk about what is wrong ” Olivia nodded and then said to Anna, “I am sorry I threw your clothes around. I don’t like it when you take my things without asking. I’ll help you put your clothes away.”
“I am sorry that I took your shirt,” said Anna. “I should ask you first.”

Growing up is not always easy. When we face difficulties, we should never give up. It is easy to give up when you are sick or tired. But the words of my father always stay in my mind: “No matter what happens, you should believe in yourself. Everything will get better if you keep trying.”
Last year, I nearly gave up my English learning. I was very afraid of making mistakes. I was afraid to speak English in class because I worried about being laughed at. My teacher noticed my problem and had a long talk with me. She told me that everyone was shy when they started learning something new. She encouraged me to practice speaking English as much as possible.
I took my teacher’s advice. I started reading English stories aloud every morning. I also tried to talk with my classmates in English. Gradually, I found it was not so difficult to learn English. I made great progress. When I got an A in the last exam, I felt so happy.

Do you always feel lonely When do you feel lonely Is loneliness a good feeling Today, more and more people are having this kind of feeling in their daily lives. When someone feels lonely, he or she will have an experience of being alone because of low levels of social contact and relationships.
There are two kinds of loneliness: emotional loneliness and social loneliness. Emotional loneliness is easy to understand. For example, when children leave their parents for a while, they usually show the pain, such as crying and trying to search for their parents. So, emotional loneliness is the result of leaving a person that someone is close to, such as a parent. On the other hand, social loneliness is the loneliness that one experiences when he or she leaves a wide social network. One doesn’t feel that he or she is a member of a group, or one doesn’t have friends to talk to when he or she is sad.
Besides, loneliness is different from being alone. Being alone is about not having contact with people. But loneliness is a subjective experience: if people think they are lonely, then they are lonely. People can be lonely when they are alone, or in a group. What makes people lonely is the fact that they want more social interaction. People can be in a group and feel lonely because they don’t get to talk to enough people. On the other hand, people can be alone and not feel lonely, though there is no one around them. They are not lonely because maybe they don’t want to have social interaction at that time.
So, what about you Will you feel lonely if you stay alone Or do you just enjoy the time being with yourself

About 20 minutes later, when I was walking upstairs, I heard Kevin crying in his room. I knocked on the door and asked, “Kevin, do you want to talk with me ”
There was no answer. I tried again. Still, nothing happened. I took a piece of paper and wrote, “If you don’t want to talk, we can write notes to each other.” Then I slipped (悄悄塞) it under the door.
Half an hour later, I was still sitting outside his door. Then, a note slipped out from under the door. When I read it, I couldn’t help crying. It said, “Nobody in this family loves me. I am not the youngest nor the oldest, and I am not the smartest. Tommy thinks I am too weak, and Dad wishes he had another Kevin who is better at basketball.
