Sandro Dias had dreamt of skateboarding down the curved (弯曲的) outer wall of the Centro Administrativo Fernando Ferrari (CAFF) in Porto Alegre, Brazil, ever since he first saw the building in 1988. That dream finally became a reality on September 25, 2025, when the 50-year-old flawlessly skated down the 22-story building from a height of about 197 feet.
This achievement earned the professional Brazilian skateboarder two Guinness World Records. One was for the tallest drop into a temporary quarter slope — a curved structure that lets riders launch into the air and perform tricks. The second record was for the fastest speed skateboarding on a temporary quarter pipe. In just eight seconds, Dias reached a top speed of 64 mph.
Although he made it look easy, Dias spent months training for the ride. He practiced riding his skateboard while being pulled by a motorcycle. He also wore an 88-pound vest to copy the increased gravitational forces he would experience during the drop.
The stunt (特技), called the Red Bull Building Drop, also required careful planning. The Red Bull crew spent over a month building a smooth slope that connected safely to the building. The sides of the concrete wall were lined with soft material to protect Dias during his high speed fall. Foam pillows stretched across the bottom to help him slow down and stop safely.
Also known as Mineirinho, Dias is one of the world’s best skateboarders. He has won six world championships and is famous for pulling off tricks that very few people can do. Dias hopes his achievements will inspire more young people to take up the sport.
“It’s not about seeking fame, it’s about pushing the limits and creating opportunities for people,” Dias said after the record-breaking stunt. “I hope this serves as motivation, so that more and more people get into skateboarding and more opportunities come up for the sport.”
4. What does the underlined word “flawlessly” in paragraph 1 mean
A. Carelessly. B. Slowly.
C. Perfectly. D. Nervously.
5. How did Dias prepare for the skating
A. By building slopes alone. B. By training with special methods.
C. By learning from other riders. D. By practicing on the CAFF wall.
6. What does the author imply about Dias in paragraph 5
A. He has no other achievements. B. He dislikes competition.
C. He wants to quit the sport. D. He is a top skateboarder.
7. What is a suitable title for the text
A. Skateboarding Dream Comes True.
B Red Bull’s New Skateboarding Event.
C. How to Break Skateboarding Records.
D. The Tallest Building for Skateboarding.

The world of work will likely look very different by the time the current generation of kids finishes Year 12. Education futurist and school consultant Tony Ryan said AI will reshape the workforce across every industry, making some jobs no longer needed while creating others. While some jobs could be replaced by robots, others requiring empathy (共情) and connection, such as teaching, social work, and nursing, will still need a human touch.
The University of South Australia’s Professor of Engineering Innovation David Cropley believes advancing technology will shape the careers of today’s kids as AI continues to develop. “However, I don’t think these will simply replace humans in the world of work. Rather, I see them as strengthening human specialists,” Professor Cropley said. For example, in medical diagnosis (诊断), doctors will consult with their AI assistant to confirm findings on an X-ray. “Automation and AI, as capable as they might be, are still just very fancy tools,” he added.
Critical and creative thinkers with skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) will be in high demand by 2038, according to Professor Cropley. Five year-old Aaliyah Sciamanna dreams of becoming a teacher, a profession experts predict will still be needed by the time she finishes school. Similarly, Chloe Cardoso longs to follow her mechanic father’s footsteps, already wearing a small uniform during visits to his garage.
Meanwhile, Luca Ranieri, a famous scientist, has started kindergarten with a passion for experiments, while five-year-old Jonathan Gurung dreams of becoming an engineer. Luca’s father, Jason, believes his son’s sense of wonder will take him far in life, regardless of the path he chooses.
Jonathan’s mother, Kaitlyn Zhang, has built a home lab for her son to practice his creative ideas, hoping to nurture him into a curious, determined and caring person. She said that as she always told him, this world never lacks smart people, but it desperately needs those who use their abilities to make a positive impact, and she hoped he would be one of them.
8. What can be inferred about AI’s effect on jobs
A. It’ll replace all empathy jobs. B. It’ll change job demand types.
C. It’ll destroy most industries. D. It’ll ignore human connection.
9. Why does David Cropley mention medical diagnosis
A. To show AI is a tool. B. To prove AI replaces doctors.
C. To stress doctors’ importance. D. To highlight X-ray use.
10. What does paragraph 3 mainly deal with
A. Demand for STEM skills. B. Kids’ future job dreams.
C. Future job predictions. D. The need for critical thinkers.
11 What can we infer from Jason’s belief
A. Paths are important. B. Luca will be a scientist.
C. Luca has no clear goal. D. Wonder leads to success.

Life can grow well in some seriously extreme environments, from the salty to the cold, and now the surprisingly deep, as scientists have found the deepest complex ecosystem ever discovered. The hadal trenches (深渊海沟) animals call home can be as deep as 9,533 meters and play host to species that get their energy from chemical reactions. Handy, given there’s no sunlight in the hadal zone.
Getting your energy from chemical reactions is what’s known as chemosynthesis. We’ve found animals that live this way in places like hot springs and cold leaks, but rarely at depths beyond 7,000 meters. That said, we hadn’t really tried looking any deeper than that for this kind of life, until now.
This new study sought to take a deeper look at life in the hadal zone and discover whether chemosynthetic communities could be hiding here. It would seem that they have been rewarded, as what they discovered in Kuril-Kamchatka and Western Aleutian Trenches pushes the known limits of chemosynthetic life deeper than ever before.
During a 2024 expedition, the team used the Fendouzhe submersible (潜水器) — China’s first full-ocean-depth crewed submersible — to go on 23 dives across both trenches. They conducted high-definition video surveys, collected biological samples, and then used genetic testing and chemical analysis to get an idea of what species were present, and how they were surviving in such a seemingly uninhabitable environment.
What they discovered is that there are healthy chemosynthetic communities living in the hadal zone, including tubeworms, and polychaetes. The deepest of these live 9,533 meters below the ocean surface, and sometimes reach densities of over 5,800 tubeworms per square meter.
“These communities are sustained by hydrogen sulfide-rich and methane-rich fluids that are transported along faults (断层) crossing deep sediment layers in trenches, where methane is produced microbially from deposited organic matter, as indicated by scientific analysis,” wrote the authors. “Given geological similarities with other hadal trenches, such chemosynthesis based communities might be more widespread than previously expected.”
12. What do species in hadal trenches rely on for energy
A. Sunlight. B. Other sea animals.
C. Chemical reactions. D. Shallow water plants.
13. What did the research team do during the expedition
A. They studied species in labs. B. They invented a new submersible.
C. They employed advanced methods. D. They created artificial ecosystems.
14. What is the author’s attitude to the discovery
A. Positive. B. Critical. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.
15. What can be inferred about methane in trenches
A. It forms with microbial help. B. It exists in shallow water layers.
C. It is transported by ocean waves. D. It comes from fresh organic matter.
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Bathrooms are naturally damp and steamy. Even with regular cleaning, moisture (潮湿) stays around. Among work, family, and a social life, cleaning every wall hard daily is almost impossible. And that’s exactly when mold (霉菌) takes the opportunity to grow.
Recently, a friend noticed yellow stuff falling down her bathroom walls. Naturally, I panicked and wanted answers fast. ____16____ Its tiny particles (颗粒) float through the air and settle in damp spots. Once there, mold spreads rapidly.
____17____ Certain types can cause allergic reactions, breathing issues, and long-lasting health problems if left unchecked. Bathrooms, with their constant moisture, are prime breeding grounds. Mold grows well in warm, damp conditions. After a shower, steam turns to water on walls and ceilings. ____18____ Mold often starts in corners or near pipe parts, then spreads quickly if ignored.
The key to prevention is controlling moisture. Let fresh air into your bathroom by opening a window or running an exhaust fan during and after showers. ____19____ If mold already appears, act fast. For surfaces that don’t absorb water, a bleach and water mix works well. For hard-to remove mold or chemical sensitivities, vinegar and a hydrogen-based cleaning liquid are safer choices. Always wear gloves and a mask to protect your skin and lungs.
Keeping your bathroom clean and dry is the best defense. Let fresh air in regularly, clean frequently, and consider a machine that reduces dampness in damp areas. If the problem gets out of hand, calling professionals is wise. ____20____
A. Mold isn’t just ugly — it’s dangerous.
B. Without proper airflow, this moisture stays around.
C. Even with good airflow, moisture doesn’t go away.
D. Mold grows wherever moisture, meets organic matter.
E. Wipe surfaces sometimes, especially areas easy to get wet.
F. Dry surfaces regularly, especially those likely to get water drops.
G. Maintaining a clean environment ensures a healthy home for everyone.

第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In a small town in Ohio, there was a middle school next to a vacant (空的) lot — overgrown with weeds, filled with old trash, and ignored by most people. Among the school’s students were four friends: Ella, who loved growing houseplants; Tyler, who helped his grandpa with woodwork; Zoe, who liked drawing plans; and Jax, who was good at asking neighbors for help. They often passed the lot and wished it could be something useful — until one day, their art teacher suggested they turn it into a community garden for the town. The four jumped at the idea, eager to make the empty space a place everyone could enjoy.
They started by making a plan: Zoe drew beds for vegetables and flowers, Tyler said he could build wooden fences, Ella listed the seeds they needed, and Jax offered to ask local stores for free tools. But challenges came fast: the lot’s soil was hard and full of rocks, they had only a few old shovels (铲子), and a neighbor joked, “You kids will never fix this mess.” Worse, each faced personal trouble: Ella had to take care of her little sister after school, leaving less time to work; Tyler worried his fences would look messy; Zoe feared her plan was too big to finish; Jax felt discouraged when a store said no to free tools. But they supported each other — Ella brought her sister to help pull weeds, Tyler practiced fence-building with his grandpa, Zoe simplified the plan, and Jax found a hardware store that donated old gloves and rakes.
After weeks of work, the garden started to take shape: they turned over the soil, built small fences, and planted tomato and sunflower seeds. Then, a heavy rainstorm hit the town overnight. The next morning, they rushed to the lot — only to find their newly built wooden fence knocked over by strong winds, and some seed beds flooded. They stood there, staring at the mess, before Jax said, “We’ve fixed hard things before. Let’s start again.”
注意:
(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;
