Chinese pangolins (穿山甲) live in the south of the country's Yangtze River. The long-tailed animals spend most of the daytime sleeping, curling up into a ball. They have poor eyesight so they use their well-developed sense of smell to find their diet of insects at night.Their physical appearance is marked by large, hardened, plate-like scales. The scales are soft on newborn pangolins but harden as they grow up.Pangolins are also known as scaly anteaters (食蚁兽) and they help protect trees in the forests.
But now they are in danger.Experts say that Chinese pangolins are functionally_extinct,_Beijing News reported. This suggests that there won't be more baby pangolins in the wild. The population of pangolins will be smaller and smaller. They can no longer play an important role in the wild.
According to a national wildlife survey, there were about 60,000 Chinese pangolins in different places, including Yunnan and Zhejiang, in the 1990s.Since then, this number has fallen by 90 percent because of hunters who kill them for their scales and meat.People use their scales in traditional Chinese medicine and it's believed by some that their meat is high in nutritional value. In addition, Chinese pangolins are facing a loss of their homes because of pollution and a reduction in the forest area.
The environment has changed a lot due to human activity which is mainly focused on the development of economy. What is worse, many animals like pangolins have to live in a much-polluted homeland.Their population has become smaller and smaller. It is time for us to take measures to show care to our friends, the animals.

Today's grandparents are joining their grandchildren on social media, but the different generations' online habits couldn't be more different. In the UK the over-55s are joining a social networking site in increasing numbers, meaning that they will soon be the site's second biggest user group, with 3.5 million users aged 55-64 and 2.9 million over-65s.
Sheila, aged 59, says,“I joined to see what my grandchildren are doing, as my daughter posts videos and photos of them. It's a much better way to see what they're doing than waiting for letters and photos in the post. That's how we did it when I was a child, but I think I'm lucky that I get to see so much more of their lives than my grandparents did.”
Interestingly, Sheila's grandchildren are less likely to use the site themselves.Children under 17 in the UK are leaving the site — only 2.2 million users are under 17 — but they're not going far from their smartphones.Chloe, aged 15, even sleeps with her phone.“It's my alarm clock so I have to,” she says.“I look at it before I go to sleep and as soon as I wake up.”
Unlike her grandmother's generation, Chloe's age group is spending so much time on their phones at home that they are missing out on spending time with their friends in real life.Sheila, on the other hand, has made contact with old friends from school she hasn't heard from in forty years.“We use the site to arrange to meet all over the country,” she says.“It's changed my social life completely.”
Parents have an important role to play if they want their kids to spend more time in real life.Peter, 38, who spends most of his time in front of a screen, is recently determined to set a better example to his kids.In the evening or at weekends, he would leave his smartphone home and take his kids out to nature.
12.What can we learn from paragraph 1

·Trees are carbon sinks
To produce its food, a tree absorbs and locks away carbon dioxide in the wood, roots and leaves.Carbon dioxide is a global warming suspect.__19__.This locking-up process “stores” carbon as wood and not as a “greenhouse” gas.
·__20__
Trees block urban noise almost as effectively as stone walls.Trees, planted at strategic points in a neighborhood or around your house, can reduce major noises from freeways and airports.
A.Trees help clean the sky
B.Trees control noise pollution

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When a tornado touched down in a small town nearby, many families were left completely ruined.Afterwards all the local newspapers carried many human interest stories (有人情味的故事) featuring some of the families who suffered the hardest.
One Sunday,a particular picture especially touched me.A young woman stood in front of an entirely shabby mobile home, a depressed expression on her face.A young boy, seven or eight years old, stood at her side, eyes downward.Clutching (抓紧) her skirt was a tiny girl who stared into the camera, eyes wide with confusion and fear.
The article that went with the picture gave the clothing sizes of each family member. With growing interest,I noticed that their sizes closely matched ours. This would be a good opportunity to teach my children to help those less fortunate than themselves.I stuck the picture of the young family on our refrigerator, explaining their difficulty to my seven-year-old twins,Brad and Brett, and to three-year-old Meghan.
“These poor people now have nothing,” I said.“We'll share what we have with them.” I brought three large boxes down from the room upstairs and placed them on the living room floor.Meghan watched seriously, as the boys and I filled one of the boxes with canned foods and goods.
While I sorted through our clothes, I encouraged the boys to go through their toys and donate some of their less favourite things.Meghan watched quietly as the boys piled up old toys and games.
Meghan walked up with Lucy, her worn, much-loved rag doll hugged tightly to her chest. She came to the box that held the toys, pressed her round little face into Lucy's flat and painted face, gave her a final kiss and then laid her gently on the top of the other toys.
“Oh, honey,” I said, “You don't have to give Lucy. You love her so much.”
Meghan nodded seriously, eyes filled with held-back tears, “Lucy makes me happy, Mommy.Maybe she'll make that little girl happy, too.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。
The boys watched, open-mouthed, as their baby sister placed her favorite doll in the box.____________________________________________________________________________

第二节
参考范文:
The boys watched, open-mouthed, as their baby sister placed her favorite doll in the box.Without a word, Brad rose and went to his room.He came back carrying one of his favorite action figures. He hesitated briefly, clutching the toy, then looked over at Meghan and placed it in the box next to Lucy.A slow smile spread across Brett's face. Then he jumped up eyes twinkling as he ran to fetch some of his prized Matchbox cars.I think all of them want to make these poor people who have nothing happy like them.Swallowing back tears, I pulled all three of them into my arms.
I looked at my children for a long moment.Astonished,I realized that the boys had also recognized what little Meghan's gesture meant.Taking the cue from my little one, I removed my old jacket from the box of clothes.I replaced it with the new hunter green jacket that I had found on sale last week.I hoped the young woman in the picture would love it as much as I did. What Meghan did taught me a lesson that the true spirit of donating is to give with your heart.
