连词(Conjunctions)
用来连接单词、短语或句子的虚词叫连词。连词在句中不能单独作句子成分,一般不重读。按其性质,连词可分为两类:并列连词和从属连词。
并列连词是指用以连接并列的单词、短语、从句或句子的连词。常见的并列连词有 and、but、for、or、both … and …、not only … but also … 等。
从属连词是指用以引导复合句中从句的连词。常见的从属连词有when、while、as、before、after、until、if、because、although、though、than、so that、so … that、unless、as soon as 等。

目的状语从句
1. although的用法
Although sleep is so important, many people these days are not getting enough. 尽管睡眠如此重要,但现在仍有很多人睡眠不足。
Although David has failed many times, he is always full of hope for the future. 尽管戴维失败了很多次,但他总是对未来充满希望。
although作连词,意为“尽管;然而”,引导让步状语从句,可放在主句前,也可放在主句后,相当于though。
尽管队伍输了,但队员们仍为他们自己感到骄傲。

在同一个英文句子中,although, though均不能与but同时使用,但可以与yet, still同时使用。

2. until 引导的时间状语从句
until表示动作或状态一直持续到某一时刻,即“直到……”。not ... until 意为“直到……才……”,表示直到某一时间某一行为才发生,而之前该行为并没有发生。
① We won’t start until Tom comes.
直到汤姆来了我们才出发。
② My daughter didn't go to bed until I got back
home.
直到我回家,我女儿才去睡觉。

3. so that引导的目的状语从句
① Mulan dressed like a man
为了能够参军,木兰穿戴成男人的样子。
② I got up very early
为了能按时到校,我很早就起床了。
如果从句表示的是主句行为的目的,该从句就是目的状语从句。
目的状语从句有一个特点:从句中一般都含有表示可能性的词语,比如上面两句中的could。其他可以表示可能性的词语还有will,would,can等。
目的状语从句可以由so that引导。
so that引导目的状语从句时,常和in order that引导的从句或in order to短语互换。
I got up very early so that / in order that I could get to school on time.
= I got up very early in order to get to school on time.

so+adj/adv+that... 如此……以致于……常用来引导结果状语从句
The boy is so young that he can’t dress himself.
so … that… 有时可与 too … to…(太……而不能……),
not … enough to do …(做某事不够……) 互换。
=The boy is not old enough to dress himself.
①主句时态为一般将来时。主将从现
If it rains, we will stay at home. 如果下雨,我们将待在家里。
②主句是含有情态动词can, could, may, might, should等句子。主情从现
If it is necessary, I can come at once. 如果有必要,我可以马上来。
③主句是祈使句。主祈从现
If you see him, give him this note. 如果你见到他,就把这个便条给他
描述客观事实、自然规律、普遍真理或习惯性行为。主现从现
结构:If + 一般现在时,主句 + 一般现在时。

if 意为“如果”,引导条件状语从句。在含有if 引导的条件状语从句的主从复合句中,如果主句为下列情形之一,条件状语从句要用一般现在时。
