Period 1
The analysis of the teaching material
This lesson is selected from Unit 5 of EEC textbook for Grade 3. The title of this unit is Set a Password. It belongs to the topic of “Human and Society”.
This unit teaches students how to set safe and easy-to-remember passwords, guides students to learn English of numbers, reviews color vocabulary and letters, and trains their thinking at the same time. This lesson is the first period of the unit. It is going to learn numbers from zero to nine. Through the study of this lesson, let students understand that numbers are all around us, and numbers are fun, useful, and very important in our life.
II. The analysis of students
The third grade students are usually 8~9 years old. They are lively, curious, like new things, and full of enthusiasm for learning. Children in this age group have shorter attention span, image thinking dominates, and are more inclined to learn knowledge in an intuitive and interesting way. These children have just started to learn English systematically and are in the initial stage of English learning. Their understanding and mastery of English are relatively limited. Ability is still weak, need more practice and guidance.
III. Teaching Aims
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to…
1. Understand and say number words: zero, five, six, seven, eight, nine.
2. Know that numbers are fun, useful, and important in our life.
Teaching key and difficult points
Teaching key points:
1. The students are able to listen, say, and read numbers correctly in English.
2. Let the students be interested in English learning, to establish a positive attitude towards learning, to build self-confidence in learning.
Teaching difficult points:
The students are able to pronounce the word zero, five, and nine correctly.
Teaching methods:
TPR, Task-based teaching methods, Communicative teaching method, Audio-lingual teaching method.
VI. Preparation before class
Multimedia resources: audio, teaching courseware.
Teacher preparation: number cards, game props.
Student preparation: students use books, exercise paper.
VII. Teaching Procedures
Greeting and lead in.
Before class, the teacher divide the students into 2 teams (team A&B).The team with the most balls is the winner at the end.
Show a picture of schedule.
T: Do you like P.E. class Ss: Yes, we do.
T: I’m happy to hear that. Today I want to be a P.E. teacher. I also have a whistle. Let’s go into the gym.
【设计意图】 建立评价体系,让学生通过竞争,激发学习英语的兴趣,同时创设体育课的情景主线,让学习变得更有趣。
2. Review numbers from one to four.
T: Boys and girls, let’s do warm-up exercises.可以先观看示范视频 (Chant) Let’s run.
T: There are four numbers in the chant. They are one, two, three, four.
T: How many whistles do you hear (老师吹哨子)
Let students listen and choose the number.
【设计意图】 用欢快的chant进行热身运动,复习数字1-4的单词,同时通过让学生听并且数口哨声选单词,巩固认读数字1-4的英文单词,可以培养学生的专注力,激发学生的学习兴趣。。
3. Learn numbers.
(1) Learn number five.
T: How many whistles Students count and say: 5
T: i_e /ai/ f-ive five, five, give me five(击掌).
Let students practice in pairs.
(2) Observe and say.
. T: I can see five basketballs in the gym.
How many shuttlecocks\baseballs\volleyballs\footballs can you see Let’s count together.
Ss: One, two, three …
T: six/seven/eight/nine(同样的方法学习数字6.7.8.9)
T teaches the pronunciation of numbers words.
T: How many badminton can you see Ss:没有
T: Zero. What does it look like
Ss: It looks like an egg. It looks like letter Oo.
Let students practice one by one, two by two, line by line.
(Touch the shoulders and say six. Shake hands and say seven. Wave the arms and say eight. Keep down and say nine. Do letter O and say zero. )
【设计意图】通过数一数体育馆里的各种体育器材的数量,学习数字单词,并边做动作变练习,让学生动起来,激发学生学习兴趣,同时也巩固了数词1到5,
4. Practices.
(1) Let students do exercises. (七彩阳光)可先观看示范视频
One two three four, one two three four.
Clap hands and say five. Touch the shoulders and say six. Shake hands and say seven. Wave the arms and say eight. Keep down and say nine. Do letter O and say zero.
(2) Play a game. (Play shuttlecock/rope skipping)
Each team chooses one student to go on PK.
Who gets the most shots in 15 seconds is the winner.
Let other students count the numbers together.
(3) Guess the missing number.
Show me the number with your fingers.
Let students hold their hands high, and show the fingers according to the number words.
【设计意图】通过集体做广播体操、找规律、做体育比赛的游戏,用手指表示数的一系列活动,巩固练习认读数词1到9,激发学生学习英语的兴趣,同时培养学生的竞争意识和集体荣誉感,并让学生在游戏中体验成功的快乐,从而树立学习的自信心。
5. Numbers are fun.
(1) T Uses the numbers to draw a picture of The Monkey King on the blackboard.
Let students guess what it is.
T:What is it Ss: 孙悟空
T:It’s The Monkey King. He is the main character of Journey to West.
Painting time.
T shows eight digital drawings on the screen.
Let students finish drawing. They should choose one to draw, or make their own ones.
Let some students share their painting.
T: These pictures are made of numbers. Is it fun Ss: Yes, it is.
T: Numbers are fun.
(3) Free talk.
T: Numbers are fun. So I like numbers. I like number six best. Because of it means lucky in China. What number do you like?Why

【设计意图】通过让学生用数字完成绘画的活动,让学生亲身体验数字的有趣;同时让学生自由选择模仿画,或者自己用数字创作画,培养学生的自主学习能力和创造力,激发学生的英语学习兴趣。通过表达自己喜欢的数字,锻炼学生的英语口语交际能力。

T: There are emergencies in our daily life. What should we do What telephone number should we dial
Let students think and choose.

7. Numbers are useful.
T: Numbers are around us in our life. Where can you find numbers
Let students say numbers in life.
T: We see numbers everywhere. Numbers should tell us the time, the price and so on. So numbers are useful and important.

8. Know more.
T: We can find numbers on the clock. There is a clock in the gym.
Look! The numbers are different.
T: These are Roman numbers.
Let students read Roman numbers from one to nine.

9. Evaluation.
T: Let’s count your balls. Which team is the winner
Friendship is the first, competition is the second. So please love each other.
VIII. Homework
1. Need to do.
a. Write the number words once:
zero, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine.
b. Finish Task B (Listen and color) on page 34.
2. Choose to do.
c. Learn to sing a numbers song, and sing it to your family, friends, and classmates.
