情态动词表推测
情态动词must, can, could, may, might 均可表示推测,它们可以对过去、现在或将来的情况进行推测。
Must 通常只用于肯定句,意为“一定,准是,肯定”。
e.g. The light is off. He must be sleeping.
That shop must be very good. Many people buy things there every day.
can多用于否定句或疑问句中。could 可用于各种句式。用于疑问句时,can比could表示的可能性要大;
用于否定句时,cannot (can’t)表示“不可能”。
could则可用于肯定句、否定句和疑问句。
e.g. The door is locked. He can’t be at home.

may / might用于肯定句和否定句中。
在表示现在或将来的可能情况时,might表示的可能性比 may表示的可能性要小一些。
e.g. They may not know his address. I’m not sure about that.
She told me that she might go to Hawaii this winter.
确定的推测 不确定的推测 (可能性依次减弱)
肯定句 must can > could > may > might
否定句 can not could not > may not > might not
疑问句 can could

Create a dialogue and role-play. Remember to use correct modal verbs.

A: We could clean the streets to make the community tidier. We may also help the elderly cross the road safely.
