Lily's eyes immediately lit up with excitement and joy.Inside lay a brand-new doll-not just any doll, but one
even more beautiful than the broken one.Beside the doll was a small handwritten note that said:"Every beautiful
doll deserves to be loved by a sweet girl like you.Always keep smiling!-From your secret friend."Mr Brown
immediately thought of their kind neighbor Mrs White, who had witnessed Lily's sadness yesterday.A warm feeling
of gratitude filled his heart as he watched his daughter happily hug her new doll.
Deeply moved by this wonderful act,Mr Brown decided to share the story online. The story quickly spread
throughout the community. Many neighbors, inspired by this simple but meaningful gesture, started helping with
grocery shopping for elderly neighbors, while others shared plants from their gardens. When Mrs White's family
learned what she had done, they felt incredibly proud of her.But the most valuable reward for Mrs White was
seeing Lily playing happily in the garden every day, always carrying the new doll with her. This experience served
as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can create waves of warmth and bring people closer together.绝密★启用前

At the age of 1 year and 152 days, Ace-Liam Nana Sam Ankrah from Ghana was the world’s youngest male
artist. His mother Chantelle, also an artist, discovered his passion when he was just 6 months old. While learning to
crawl, she gave him paint on a canvas to keep him busy — and he created his first artwork, The Crawl.
Since then, Ace-Liam has gained attention from the media and even Ghana’s First Lady. “He has created a
natural conversation about art appreciation and nurturing (培育) talent in kids,” the First Lady said. He has made
over 20 paintings and participated in his first group exhibition, where nine of his ten displayed works were sold.
Ace-Liam loves the feel of paint, bright colors, and expressing himself freely. “It’s a fun and creative outlet,”
his mother explained. He often asks to paint, and his abstract works are inspired by colors, shapes, textures, and his
mood. “Every painting shows his curiosity and joy,” Chantelle added.
His painting sessions are natural. He chooses the canvas and colors, asks for help opening paint bottles, and
then paints carefully but freely. A session can last from minutes to half an hour. Sometimes he returns days later to
finish. When done, he says, “Mama finish.”
After his record was confirmed, his family began looking for opportunities to nurture his talent through quality
education and international exposure. Chantelle advises parents to encourage children’s interests early: “Every
child is unique, and nurturing their passions can lead to amazing achievements.”
For anyone aiming for a world record, she stresses the importance of following the rules carefully: “Read them
over and over. The journey itself is fulfilling.” Ace-Liam’s artistic future looks bright, and many are excited to see
what he creates next.
24. What is the primary significance of Ace-Liam’s story according to the First Lady
A. It proves the value of strict discipline.

D. It inspires discussion on developing young talent.
25. Which of the following best describes Ace-Liam’s creative process
A. Planned and structured. B. Hesitant and repetitive.
C. Emotional and unrestricted. D. Interactive and social.
26. What does Chantelle expect other parents to do
A. Set clear goals for children early. B. Support children’s natural interests.
C. Compare children’s progress with others. D. Prepare children for professional courses.
27. What does the author think of Ace-Liam’s future
A. Uncertain. B. Promising. C. Challenging. D. Stressful.

When there is less sunlight, many people feel their mood drop. About 5% of adults have a condition called
seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a type of seasonal depression. Many more people experience a milder “winter
blues.”
A good way to prevent this is to use a light box, starting in the fall. Dr. Dorothy Sit, a psychiatrist, says,
“Research shows that using bright light therapy (治疗) in the morning can greatly help reduce the symptoms (症状)
of seasonal depression.” People usually sit in front of a special light box for about 30 minutes every morning.
Making this a regular habit is very important for it to work throughout the dark season.
Studies have found that light therapy can be as effective as antidepressant medicine for some people. Some
use both, and this combination can be very helpful. Many people feel better within just one week of starting.
Our bodies need daylight to regulate our internal 24-hour clock, which controls when we feel sleepy or awake.
Because this internal clock isn’t perfect, it needs a daily reset. Morning light, entering through our eyes, gives our
brain the signal to reset itself. “It helps sync our off-schedule body clock with the outside world,” explains expert
Michael Terman.
You don’t need to have severe depression to benefit from a light box. It can also help people with milder mood
changes. If you feel low on energy and mood when autumn arrives, it might be worth trying. However, it’s always
a good idea to talk to a doctor about your symptoms. Remember, the lack of light isn’t the only reason for feeling
down in winter. Cold weather often keeps people indoors, which can lead to social isolation (孤单) and sadness.
Light therapy won’t help with the blues caused by loneliness. It’s important to stay connected with friends and keep
doing activities you enjoy.
To feel your best during the darker months, combine light therapy with other healthy habits: laugh often, spend
time with friends, eat well, and stay active.
28. What is the function of morning light according to paragraph 2
A. It significantly improves eyesight. B. It offers a treatment for depression.
C. It enhances outdoor exercise effects. D. It replaces the need for social activities.
29. What does the underlined word “sync” in paragraph 4 most probably mean
A. Match up. B. Slow down. C. Calm down. D. Warm up.
30. What could you do to stay away from loneliness in winter
A. Keep a balanced diet. B. Spend more time sleeping.
C. Stay socially active and engaged. D. Take antidepressant medicine daily.
31. What is the main purpose of the text
A. To compare various mental therapies.
B. To recommend a solution for winter blues.
C. To introduce different types of the depression.
D. To explain the causes of seasonal mood changes.
D
Many people choose diet sodas every day to eat less sugar, control their weight, or live a healthier life.
However, new studies show that these drinks with artificial sweeteners might do more than just taste sweet —
they could be changing how our brains understand hunger.
For a long time, artificial sweeteners have been debated because of possible links to cancer and gut (肠胃)
problems. Now, research suggests that sweeteners like sucralose (三氯蔗糖) can activate parts of the brain that
make us feel hungry. This may increase our desire to eat. It is still not clear whether this leads to real weight gain,
but the belief that diet drinks help people lose weight is now being questioned.
When we drink something with real sugar, the body uses it for energy. This process makes us feel full. But
with artificial sweeteners like sucralose, this system does not work the same way. Brain scans show that sucralose
increases activity in the area that controls hunger, while sugar decreases it. In one study, people who drank
sucralose felt hungrier, and their bodies did not produce chemicals that help them feel full.
Why does this happen One reason for this may be that the brain expects calories when it tastes something
sweet. But artificial sweeteners have no calories. This mismatch may make the brain look for more food, especially
sweet foods.
Do these sweeteners cause weight gain The results are mixed. Some large studies show that people who often
use artificial sweeteners have a higher risk of becoming overweight or getting type 2 diabetes (糖尿病). However,
experts say this does not necessarily mean sweeteners are the cause. People who use them may already be worried
about their weight.
Other studies have found that replacing sugary drinks with diet versions can help people lose some weight.
But one recent study found that women with diabetes who switched from diet drinks to water lost more weight and
were more likely to improve their health.
Still, many doctors suggest being careful. Based on growing research, they recommend avoiding both sugary
and artificially sweetened drinks. A good alternative is naturally flavored water.
32. What is the effect of sucralose on the brain
A. It cures sugar addiction. B. It improves the sense of taste.
C. It helps to burn more calories. D. It changes how hunger is felt.
33. What can we infer about the “system” mentioned in paragraph 3
A. It regulates hunger and fullness. B. It responds to natural sugars.
C. It controls intensity of sweetness. D. It’s unaffected by sweeteners.
34. What is the author’s attitude towards artificial sweeteners
A. Favorable. B. Disapproving. C. Uninterested. D. Curious.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Why People Choose Diet Sodas B. How Our Brain Reacts to Sweetness
C. The Chemicals of Artificial Sweeteners D. New Research on Diet Drinks and Health

As humans, we tend to avoid anything that might cause us emotional discomfort. Whether that’s ignoring
today’s headlines, or not wanting to enforce a personal boundary, it’s natural to want to preserve some states of
emotional balance in life. 36 . Think about something you’ve achieved: first date; switching jobs; moving
cities; or any other courageous moment that no doubt came with fear, or sadness. All those require a leap (跳跃) of
faith into the unknown.
At the time, we may worry that we’re about to make a huge mistake when we’re actually making the
conscious decision to bravely step into the unknown. When we look back on these successes, we quickly forget
about that initial stressful feeling, seeing that moment as unimportant and insignificant to the events that followed.
37 : your self-perception begins to shift. You see that past versions of you have been able to not just
withstand emotional discomfort, but transform it into personal growth.
Over time, you see that a healthy amount of pressure isn’t just survivable, but essential to performing at your
best. 38 . And you can have the courage to be truly seen and heard by others.
This capacity to hold the wider range of emotions isn’t a skill we’re taught at school. 39 . Although it
can often feel challenging to press pause, where we land when we slow down can be the very place where we
cultivate this life-enhancing skill.
As we expand our emotional bandwidth, we unlock the willingness to allow in positive emotions too, which,
for many of us, is the missing piece in the self-care puzzle.
The beautiful truth is that when we stop running from discomfort, and start dancing with it instead, we don’t
just survive. 40 .
A. We will unlock a level of success we never imagined
B. Yet this skill can be self-taught by living in the moment
C. While this balance preserves comfort, it limits our growth
D. Whenever trapped in a difficult situation, never lose patience
E. It may be awkward to turn to professionals or people around you for guidance
F. You notice you can calmly enter conversations that improve your relationships
G. But the moment you face discomfort, you will find a surprising capacity within

On a beautiful Thursday this April, Mr and Mrs Brown took their daughter Lily out for a walk in the
neighborhood. On their way back, Mrs Brown picked up a doll for Lily from the local toy store — it had smooth
hair and wore a pretty blue dress, just like the dolls Lily always admired in shop windows. These days, when Mr
and Mrs Brown were busy with their work and spending less time at home, such small joys meant more than ever.
In the afternoon, Lily couldn’t wait to play with her new doll in the backyard. She was carefully pushing the
doll in her little toy pram (推车) when suddenly, a strong wind came and blew the pram down. Before Lily could
catch it, the pram hit a tree and fell over. The doll fell out and broke into pieces on the hard ground. Since the doll
was made of porcelain (瓷器) and completely broken, the Browns could do nothing about it. Heartbroken, Lily
collected all the pieces carefully. She found a small cardboard box and put all the broken pieces inside, then buried
it under the big oak tree in their garden.
About one hour later, their neighbor Mrs White happened to pass by and saw what had happened. She came
over to comfort little Lily. Seeing how sad the girl was, she really felt sorry for her. And it was at that moment that
she decided to do something special for the poor child.
The next day, Mr Brown went out to get the mail as usual and found a package. It was addressed to Lily, with
no sender’s name written on it. Feeling curious, he brought it inside and called his daughter. Lily carefully opened
the wrapped package.
