Our One Day Help Plan
Our group has come up with a one day help plan. We've decided to help the old in a nearby neighbourhood. Many of them live alone and find it difficult to look after their small gardens.
We'll meet at the neighbourhood gate at 9 o'clock this Saturday morning. First of all, we will water the dry plants and pull out the grass in the gardens. After finishing the garden work, we'll spend time chatting with the old. It will be really relaxing for us to listen to their interesting old stories. It might be quite hot working under the sun, so we plan to take short breaks in turns.
We believe it will not only make the old feel warm, but also help us learn that a little help can brighten someone's whole day.
四、A Small Helping Hand I Gave
Last month, I lent a small helping hand to a classmate of mine. She found it a huge challenge to keep up with our maths lessons after missing a whole week of classes because of a bad cold. It was clear that she was in need of a helping hand.
To give her a hand, I made a plan. After class each day, I explained the key points to her step by step. What's more, I shared my notes with her to help her understand what we had learned.

In China, a group of people help the elderly by using a red card known as the Pat Card(拍拍卡). The card, attached to schoolbags or backpacks, carries the message, “If you need help, just pat me.”
Zhao Chen came up with this idea. Zhao's story started in 2014. “When my daughter was born, my mum came to Xi'an to help, but she got lost. A student helped her find the way to the hospital，” Zhao said. “I was really touched and decided to do something like this to help the elderly.” So Zhao made the Pat Cards.
Zhao kept his act of kindness secret for years until 2024. In September 2024, Zhao saw an old man walking slowly through a subway station in Xi'an. Zhao helped him get out of the station, called a taxi and sent him home. On the way, some strangers joined in—one food seller gave the man a cheap meal, and the driver gave them a free ride. This made Zhao realise how powerful it is to work together. Then he called on people to help openly, and soon many volunteers came together!
That same year, he started the “Mutual(互相) Help for Parents” activity to encourage volunteers to look after the elderly. Today, more than 7，600 volunteers around China are spreading kindness through the Pat Card.

In early June, there were wildfires in Saskatchewan, Canada. Many schools closed because of the fires. Most kids were happy to have a longer summer holiday. They wanted to relax and have fun. But 10 year old Hunter Larsen had a bigger plan—he wanted to do something to help his family start over after losing their home to the fires. Now they live in a van(货车) with their dog Shadow. His mum, Amanda MacQuarrie, wasn't surprised. “Hunter is an amazing kid. He is always helpful. If you ask any of his teachers, he's just like the sweetest, kindest boy. He just wants to help everybody—even animals! So I'm really lucky，” she said.

Li Dongwei, known as “Tiger Hero”， is a wildlife ranger(巡护员) in Jilin. He works hard to protect the forests and animals.
