①A lot of people take up dancing as a hobby after work. In fact, dancing has been considered one of the best exercises to fight bad feelings in recent years.
②Dancing, which involves (包含) moving the body to different kinds of music, helps our bodies produce much endorphin (内啡肽), a chemical that makes us feel relaxed and happy.
③While simply listening to music or doing sports can cheer us up, mixing them together gives better results. In a study, a group of scientists tested some patients under three conditions: a group dancing to music, a group just listening to music, and a group riding bikes without music. The results showed that the first group were the least depressed (沮丧的).
④Dancing can bring people together too. Tango, Latin or other social dancing require us to move with others, which can improve our sense of social connection, according to IBSA, a Swiss scientific foundation.
⑤Dancing also helps people let go of bad feelings. Studies have found that depression often has to do with sadness about the past or worries about the future. However, dancing helps you focus on the present, connect with your body, and free your mind for a while, as reported by a mental health news website.
⑥Lauren Helper, a social worker in Virginia, US, pointed out that if people enjoy music of any kind, dancing can be a helpful way to reduce stress. Gardening is another great hobby. When you plant seeds and watch them grow, you learn to be patient. You also get fresh air and exercise while taking care of your plants. When you pick the vegetables or flowers you grew yourself, you’ll feel a strong sense of joy and pride.
Playing a musical instrument, like the piano or guitar, is beneficial too. It takes time to practice, but it teaches you to focus. Imagine that you have woken up on the first day of your vacation. You enjoy a delicious breakfast, take a walk on the beach, and read the morning newspaper as you drink coffee. You are feeling happy and relaxed. But you may start to feel bored by the time the late afternoon comes around!
If you have ever felt like this, you’re not alone. It turns out that having unlimited (无限的) free time is not always as great as we expected. What is the best amount (数量) of free time for our happiness
Researchers tried to answer this question by surveying tens of thousands of people, collecting data (数据) on how they spent their time and how happy they were. After looking at the data, the research team found that having less than two hours of free time a day was not enough to be happy. People with under two hours of free time a day usually had more stress. It means that they were simply too busy with work to get their happiness.
The fact that being too busy cuts happiness is true. It might lead to the answer that more free time is simply better. Surprisingly, having a lot of free time is not a panacea (灵丹妙药) for happiness. People surely get a certain sense of joy from finishing tasks. Having more than five hours of free time a day makes us lose the sense of joy. It is in fact cutting our happiness. But I think it is how we spend our free time that matters. When free time is used in more active ways, like playing a team sport, then five or more hours a day can not only prevent unhappiness but also create happiness. However, spending five or more hours of free time alone can stop happiness.

It was a cloudy morning. A new student named Maddie arrived in our class. She sat right beside me. Instead of looking away, Maddie studied my face. This made me so nervous. Clouds came through the window and filled my heart. Suddenly, she said something I would never forget.

Sometimes, families can be hard. People argue a lot. They get upset. Sometimes they stop talking. Our family has had lots of ups and downs. I’d say arguments often happen in our family too.
I have an older brother and an older sister. I’m the baby boy in the family. We grew up in quite a small house and often didn’t have a lot of money. My mum and dad argued, pretty much all the time, just about anything. My brother and sister argued. And I used to argue.
But as I got older, I always chose to be the mediator (调解员). I would try to look at both sides of the argument and bring them together to make peace. “Dad, you shouldn’t say that to Mum, but Mum, try to see it this way.” “Come on guys, we all love each other. It’s just been a bad day.” I’d say it often worked.
I learned much growing up in our family: understanding, being patient and the knowledge that sometimes things just don’t go your way. We all make mistakes. We all say things that we wish we hadn’t. The key is to try and understand. Of course, sometimes, arguments do need to happen. If something is wrong, it needs to be solved and sometimes, we get angry about it. But as long as we can reflect and look at things with an attitude (态度) of care and responsibility, we can weather the storm and help each other.

If you get angry many times in a day, it is time for you to think about how to deal with it. Here are some of my suggestions.
When you are angry, try to tell yourself through another voice that you are angry and that it is not a bad thing. It just shows that you have different ideas. Accept that many things are not 100% right or wrong. In our communication with others, the final purpose is not to decide who is right and who is wrong, but to look for something in common.
If you still feel strong anger, try taking a deep breath and let the anger out of your body along with the breath. Don’t say hurtful things when you are very angry, because you will feel sorry for saying them when you cool down.
Discussing (讨论) with a third party is helpful. It is hard for the two parties in anger to understand each other, but the idea of an outsider can help them out.
Anger is just one of the many human emotions, and to manage it well adds to our ability to truly understand the world.

A.To show different ideas.
B.To look for something in common.

The Green Miracle of Saihanba
Long ago, Saihanba was a beautiful forest with many birds and animals. But in the late Qing Dynasty, people cut down too many trees. Years later, the forest disappeared, and the area became a barren desert. Strong sandstorms often hit Beijing, which is not far away.
In 1962, the Chinese government decided to change this. A group of foresters came to Saihanba. Life was very hard there. The temperature could drop to -40°C in winter. There was no house to live in and little food to eat. However, these foresters did not give up. They planted trees year after year. Many trees died in the beginning, but they kept trying.

The change brings many benefits. The forest stops sandstorms from reaching Beijing. It also provides clean water and fresh air for millions of people. Many rare animals and birds have returned to their home.

Are there any lakes in your hometown What colour are they According to a study, about one third of the world’s lakes are blue. But global warming may lead them to turn green or even brown, and countries with most lakes may be influenced the most. If the temperature continues to rise, one in every ten lakes might change colour.
Xiao Yang from a university in the US and his team analyzed (分析) the colour of more than 85,000 lakes based on the satellite photos taken from 2020 to 2024. The study found lakes in areas with summer temperatures below 19℃ are more likely to be blue than warmer areas. According to the research, the colour of a lake is partly decided by what’s in the water. Water molecules (分子) take in the long wavelengths (波长) of sunlight, such as red and yellow, leaving behind the shorter ones. This makes the water look green or blue. In short, the cleaner the water is, the bluer it looks.
Lakes are an important part of our environment. Their colour is one of the oldest ways to tell if an ecosystem is healthy. Humans get their drinking water from lakes, rivers, and groundwater. As they become greener, people may lose lots of clean water. Because of this, dealing with the water will probably cost more. As these lakes disappear or change colour, people may feel upset.

Jerry is a world-famous mountain climber. He has climbed many high mountains in the world so far. Starting in 2015, he and his friends spent two years on an adventure (探险) in South America, covering 7,800 miles. He was even named Adventurer of the Year by a famous geography magazine in 2018.

But scientists can’t get there themselves as such places are hard to reach—only the bravest adventurers can make it. Jerry thought he could do something to help. He then came up with an idea. He set up a team of top adventurers to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it.

For Jerry, this kind of adventure is most satisfying. “Such adventures have made us see life in a different way. Now, being the best climber isn’t important for me. 76.根据文章第三段“First, they found the right kind of trees...Second, they developed new planting methods. After nearly 60 years of hard work, the miracle happened.”可知,该段落主要讲述了林场工人们通过正确的方法和坚持最终取得了成功。因此,段落开头需要一个承上启下的问句来引出他们成功的方法,即“他们是如何成功的?”。
77.根据文章第四段“The forest stops sandstorms from reaching Beijing. It also provides clean water and fresh air for millions of people.”可知,如今这片森林的主要好处是阻挡了风沙,并为数百万人提供了清洁的水源和空气。
78.根据文章最后一段“It shows that humans and nature can live together in harmony if we work hard and never give up.”
