and heavy rains. It begins on the sea and can come onto the land. Its
fast winds can hurt us and destroy our homes. We cannot stop a tornado
or a hurricane from coming, but we can get out of its way.

【易混辨析】win与beat
win 意为 “获胜,赢;赢得”,指在比赛或战斗中获得胜利,其宾语

world.

On April 26, 2017, Indonesia started Disaster Preparedness Day. The

Mahyeldi, head of West Sumatra Province in Indonesia, gave a

before,” he said. “It's important for us to learn how to save ourselves
from disasters. In this way, we'll know how to act quickly if disasters
come,” he added.

year. Typhoons are among them. Typhoons are some of the worst storms,
usually around the Northwest Pacific Ocean(太平洋) and the South
China Sea. Most happen in July, August and September.
How does a typhoon happen When lots of sea water gets hot in
the summer sun, it evaporates(蒸发) into the air. This makes the air
hotter. When the air gets warm enough, it starts to move high up into
the sky.#4
Then cooler air around it rushes in. It fills the space that is left.
After the air gets warmer, it starts to move quickly, making wind. The
wind goes in circles and it keeps moving higher in the sky. The warmer
the air gets, the faster the wind moves. And when wind moves faster
than 30 metres a second, a typhoon begins. A typhoon has two parts.
One is called the “eye”. It's the centre of the typhoon. In the eye, the
wind does not move so fast. The other part is the wall of clouds around

Typhoons are very dangerous. In November in 2013, super Typhoon
Haiyan killed more than 6,000 people in Philippines. More people were
hurt and some others were missing.

(24-25四川成都阶段练习)When you look at a mountain with
snow on the top, it looks so beautiful. But that can change very quickly
if an avalanche happens.
An avalanche is quite a lot of snow, ice and rocks moving quickly
down a mountain, usually on slopes(斜坡) of 30° to 45°. It can move
at speeds at 96 km/h to 129 km/h.
Different things can make avalanches happen suddenly. About 90%
of avalanches happen because of humans, like climbers and snow mobiles
(雪地摩托). Strong winds, earthquakes, and even animals can also
make them happen.
Avalanches happen all year around. Most of them are small, but in
high mountains, such as the Alps(阿尔卑斯山脉) and the Himalayas,
they can be very large and dangerous. When it happens, the fast-moving
snow, ice and rocks can cover people, all the houses and villages along
the way. The snow becomes too hard to move. That can make people
under it die of the cold.
However, what can we do to keep safe if we want to climb snow
mountains Education and right training can help. They can give us
useful advice. For example, never start climbing when the snow begins
melting(融化), especially in spring. Avalanches may happen in this
season at any minute. Wait for at least 2 days to start climbing after a
snowstorm. Bring useful tools, like a beacon(信标) to help others find
you. Phones sometimes don't work on mountains. Keeping quiet on the

Typhoon Ragasa is the 18th typhoon of the year. It has already
caused serious damage in the Philippines before moving to China. In
China, it made landfall in Yangjiang city in Guangdong province on

The water needs to be warm, at least 26 . The
warm water evaporates and rises into the air.
Low-Pressure Center
The rising warm, wet air creates an area of low
pressure near the ocean's surface. Cooler air from
around this area then rushes in to take its place,
creating wind.
Spinning Motion(旋转运动)
Because the Earth spins, the incoming air starts
to rotate(旋转), making the system spin.
Getting Stronger As more warm, moist(潮湿的) air rises, it releases energy, making the storm stronger. If the winds keep getting faster and reach a speed of at least 32.7 meters per second, it becomes a typhoon. To keep us safe, we have different warning signals. When a blue
signal goes up, it means average winds may reach Level 6, or gusts

yellow, average winds could strengthen to Level 8 or higher. An orange
