美国自然历史博物馆(American Museum of Natural History)是世界上规模最大的自然历史博物馆,也是美国主要的自然历史研究和教育中心之一。该馆始建于1869年,位于美国纽约,占地7公顷多。其古生物与人类学的收藏在世界各博物馆中占居首位,除采自美国境内的标本外,南美洲、非洲、欧洲、亚洲、澳洲的代表性标本也都有收藏。馆内陈列内容极为丰富,涵盖天文、矿物、人类、古生物和现代生物五大领域,有大量的化石、恐龙、禽鸟、印第安人和爱斯基摩人的复制模型。所藏宝石、软体动物和海洋生物标本尤为名贵。
伦敦自然史博物馆(Natural History Museum in London)坐落在伦敦南肯辛顿地区,形似中世纪大教堂,总建筑面积为 4万多平方米。伦敦自然史博物馆1881年正式对外开放,而实际上加上前身的历史,已有250多年之久,拥有7500万件动植物和化石矿物标本,是欧洲最大的自然历史博物馆。全馆有20个大陈列厅,内容包括古生物、矿物、植物、动物、生态和人类等六个方面。
