Walking back to camp through the swamp(沼泽), Sam wondered whether to tell his father what he had seen.
“I know one thing,” he said to himself. “I’m going back to that little pond(池塘) again tomorrow. And I’d like to go alone. If I tell my father what I saw today, he will want to go with me. I’m not sure that is a very good idea.” Sam was eleven. His last name was Beaver. He was strong for his age and had black hair and dark eyes like an Indian. Sam walked like an Indian, too, putting one foot straight in front of the other and making very little noise. The swamp through which he was traveling was a wild place. There was no road, and it was soft and wet underfoot, which made walking difficult.
Every four or five minutes, Sam took his compass(指南针) out of his pocket and checked his way to make sure he was going in a right direction. Canada is a big place. Much of it is wild land. To get lost in the woods and swamps of western Canada would be a serious matter. As he trudged on, the boy’s mind was full of the wonder of what he had seen. Not many people in the world have seen the living place of a Trumpeter Swan(黑嘴天鹅). Sam had found one on the lonely pond on this day in spring. He had seen the two great white birds with their long white necks and black bills(黑嘴).
Nothing he had ever seen before in all his life had made him feel quite the way he felt, on that wild little pond, in the presence of those two large swans.
They were so much bigger than any bird he had ever seen before. The nest was big, too. The female(雌性) was sitting on eggs; the male walked slowly back and forth, guarding her.

Robots: From Factory Floors to Our Homes
If you think robots are only characters in science fiction movies, it's time to think again. In 2026, robots are becoming a real part of our world. They are stepping out of factories (工厂) and starting to appear in our daily lives.
For a long time, robots mainly worked in industrial (工业的) settings. Inside car factories like BYD and Xiaomi, you could find robots moving heavy boxes or putting together small parts. They worked 24/7 and never got tired. These robots helped make cars faster and safer (更安全的).
But now, a new kind of robot is catching people's attention — the humanoid robot(人形机器人). These robots look like humans and can do many things that people do.
In a nursing home (养老院) in Chengdu, a robot named "Kuafu" is teaching the elderly to do Tai Chi (太极). It can also tell stories and chat with them. For many old people who live alone, this robot is like a friendly companion. It never gets impatient(不耐烦的) and is always ready to talk.
This year, many Chinese robot companies showed their new products at an important forum in Switzerland. They want to show that Chinese robots are not only smart but also reliable (可靠的). Experts say that in the near future, more families will have their own robots. They can help with housework, look after children, or just keep people company.
However, there are still challenges (挑战). Robots today are still expensive and sometimes they make mistakes. But scientists are working hard to make them better. They believe that one day, robots will be as common as smartphones.

Sky Dancers
They fly up and down, here and there. They move their tails lightly, from side to side. They catch the wind and move quietly high in the sky. What are these things dancing in the wind They are kites.
Kites have a long history. More than three thousand years ago, people in China made the first kites. They used bamboo—which is light and strong—to build the frames (框架). Then they added silk to make the kite.
The kite became an important symbol (象征) in China. They were used in many ways. For example, people flew kites to celebrate happy moments like birthdays. They also believed kites could help tell the future. Later, they used kites to study the weather. Even some old Chinese stories tell how people in the past used kites to win a fight.
Soon kites came to other parts of Asia. In Japan, kites were also popular because Japanese people, like people in China, believed that kites brought good luck. Like Chinese kites, Japanese kites also took the shape (形状) of large birds, fish and other different animals.
After a while, the kite found its way from Asia to Europe. In the 1600s, young English children learned to make kites. People named the new toy “kite” because it flew like a kite—a special kind of bird.
Today, children and grown-ups all over the world enjoy flying kites. They can be many different shapes, sizes, and colors. Kites today are often made of nylon (尼龙). Their frames may be light steel. Some kites are still made of paper and wood. Whatever they look like, kites are fun for people all over the world. So next time you have a chance, take a break! Go fly a kite!

My Online Tour to London
With the help of the Internet, we can travel around the world without leaving home. Last weekend, I had an amazing online tour of London—the capital of the UK.
London is a big and beautiful city. It lies in the south of England. The weather there is often rainy, but that makes the city special. During my online trip, I visited many famous places. First, I saw the Big Ben. It is the symbol of London and has a very big clock. Then I clicked on the London Eye. Through the screen, I felt like I was sitting in it and enjoying the view of the whole city.
This online tour really opened my mind. I learned a lot about British culture. There is no doubt that the Internet makes the world smaller. I hope to visit London in person one day.
