It was the last math exam before summer. But Scott didn’t worry. He was the best math student in the class, and he never had to work very hard at it. It used to make the other students mad because he never studied, yet he always got the best marks.
As usual, he was the first one done. The next day, a call came to his house and he was asked to go to the school.
When he arrived at the school, the headmaster was there to meet him. “Wow!” he thought. “I must have scored 100 percent on the exam!” But what the headmaster said next left Scott
surprised. “You failed,” she said. “Since you were a little kid, you have found math easy. You surely have the gift for math but you waste it. It’s time to know that you can’t just walk into an exam unprepared.”
The headmaster continued, “I was like you when I was a girl. My gift was in science. I
didn’t need to study for science at all. I was the best in my class. But one day, I failed a big exam. You see this picture It was given to me by my science teacher that day. This ugly-looking bird is called a buzzard (秃鹫). Read what it says at the bottom.”
Scott read it aloud, “Welcome to the Buzzard Club. Remember, it’s not about brains. It’s about hard work.”
“A buzzard can only fly if it gets a running start,” the headmaster explained. “It can’t just
fly into the air like other birds. But once it’s in the air, it can fly very high. Keep this bird in mind. Remember, studying is like that running start. Together with your natural ability, it will allow you to fly like a bird!”

Do you always need to put on more clothes right away when the first cold wave of autumn comes Have you ever wondered whether you overreact (反应过激) If so, relax. The human
body just takes time to get used to the cold.
“Usually, a 10℃ day in February feels great, while in November it feels uncomfortably cold,” said John Castellani, an expert in cold weather research. Some experts argue that this
difference is connected with a person’s mind. Others say there’s more to it.
People just experience temperature differently. Many reasons can explain that. Larger
people, for example, lose more body heat in the cold than smaller ones. This is because they are more likely to lose heat over their greater surface area. People with more fat under their skin (皮肤) lose less heat because the fat prevents heat from passing through.
Our bodies react to the cold in the same way, though. When the temperature drops, sensors (感应器) in the skin notice that change. They then send information to our brain , our brain may direct the body to do one of two things. The main reaction is the constriction (收缩) of blood vessels (血管). This moves warm blood away from our hands, feet and skin and toward the important part of the body. The body may also shake to produce heat.
Over time, however, these reactions can change. People living in the cold area begin to adapt to it more, studies have found. Locals in the Arctic (北极地区), for example, have a less noticeable reaction to the cold.
试卷第 6 页,共 12 页
That explains how people in the cold area might get used to winter time. “We experience that cold air on our face all winter long. We've been used to that cold, and because the skin’s a
little warmer, we also feel warmer. That’s why a 10℃ day in November feels much colder than it does in February,” Dr. Castellani said.

My ideas on AI
Our life has changed greatly since the appearance of the AI Technology. However, people hold different ideas on it.
AI has many advantages. It can chat with us like a real friend and help us solve problems quickly. It gives useful information and makes our life easier.
But AI also has disadvantages. It makes our brains lazier because some people just ask AI without thinking. Also, many people may lose their jobs as AI can do their work.
In my opinion, we should use AI wisely. We should use it as a tool to help us learn, but not just copy its answers. Also, we should think more by ourselves. Only in this way can AI truly help us grow.
