Is there anyone you hate Well, maybe you don’t really hate him. But you get really angry every time you think of him. If you don’t let this anger go, it can turn into bitterness (痛苦).
Bitterness appears when we can’t forgive someone who has hurt us or made us angry.
Someone might say or do something that hurts us. But instead of controlling the anger, we keep it deep inside. Before long, a bitter feeling begins to grow. We may think we’re hurting that person by criticizing (指责) him or her often, but we’re really only hurting ourselves.
Bitterness can not only lead to serious health problems such as heart disease, but also hurt our relationships with friends and family members. No one enjoys being around an angry person for very long.
If you see bitterness in your life, here are some ways to deal with it.
※Accept it
Instead of trying to deny your anger, make it clear to yourself and accept it. See your anger for what it is and quickly deal with it.
※Stop making excuses for it
You may feel you have a right to be angry. You may think you’re right and the other person is wrong. You may even secretly enjoy making the other person look bad. But in the end,
bitterness hurts you much more than the other person. The bitterness will hold you back, and the other person will go on with his or her life.
※Forgive and forget it
You probably can’t completely put the anger out of your mind. But you can decide to

When Abraham Lincoln was young, he worked in a store. One day a woman came into the store
and bought some things. They added up to two dollars and six and a quarter cents.
The bill was paid, and the woman was satisfied. But the young storekeeper, not feeling quite sure
about his calculations(计算), added up the things again. To his surprise, he found that it should
have been but two dollars.
" I’ve made her pay six and a quarter cents more," said young Abe, upset.
It was an unimportant thing, and many salespersons would forget it, but Abe was too careful for
that.
The money must be paid back, he decided.
At night, he closed the store and walked to the home of his customer. He explained the matter,
paid over the six and a quarter cents, and returned satisfied.

At the present time, more and more people love traveling. It's a very good w 66 of getting to
know new people and cultures and acquiring(获得)experiences. It helps travellers g 67 a lot. Travel can make our minds become much w 68 .
But travel does more than all that. It can also make us more creative. In recent years, some
professors have been doing r 69 on what many people have already learned from travel
experiences. They believe that spending time a 70 has influenced people's mind. For example, they found that the students who lived in foreign countries for a longer period were better at
s 71 problems creatively than those who did not. If you stay in the same place, you can't
experience new sights, new smells, new sounds and new cultures. All these can w 72 up your mind and make it more active . H 73 , that doesn't mean the more places you've been, the more creative you'll become. Another group of professors have been doing s 74 research. They
found the people who often travelled from one place to another didn't have enough time to

On Oct 14, the Chinese government put out its second-ever white paper on food security.
试卷第 10 页,共 12 页
The new report Food Security in China highlights the government’s success in feeding its growing population and its plans to improve food security, Xinhua reported.
The last food security white paper, put out in 1996, aimed at answering the question: “Who will feed China ” Over 20 years on, it seems that China has realized its promise to feed its people. The new paper says that China’s grain supply has achieved self-sufficiency (自给自足). In 2018, China’s grain output (产量) reached 610 million tons. It made up more than 90 percent of the total food output in the country, as well as marked an increase of 160 million tons since 1996. Now,
China’s per capita (人均) food output is around 470kg. It’s grown by 14 percent since 1996.
Thanks to this improvement, Chinese people’s needs have changed from “having enough food” to “having quality food”, Li Guanglu, an expert from a committee on China’s national food security policy, told Global Times.
People also have more choices in what they eat and have healthier diets. For example, people are eating more non-grain foods such as meat, vegetables and fruits. This way, they get more quality protein (优质蛋白质) and vitamins (维生素).
