Grammar focus
用来指不确定的对象(人,事物和数量),它们既能单独充当句子成分(主语、宾语、表语等),也能修饰名词。

英语中的不定代词有很多,用法也比较灵活,本单元简单介绍常用的几个。
neither & none
I saw two boys at the door, but neither (of them) is my brother.
I saw two runners.
They weren’t my brothers.
neither 表示对两者的否定。
注意:neither通常指代可数名词复数,作主语时,谓语动词用三单形式。
None (of the students) in my class wants / want to give up.
There are more than two students. They don’t want to give up.
none 表示对三者及以上的否定。
注意:当none 指代“可数名词复数”(如 students, books, cars 等)时,谓语动词用单数或复数均正确。
注意:当none 指代“不可数名词”(如 water, money, time, information 等)时,此时主语视为“单数概念”,谓语动词用三单形式。
None (of the water) is left in the bottle.
Water is uncountable.
none 表示对不可数名词的否定。

none还可以表示“零”这一数字概念

both of...:后接代词(us/them/you)时,“of”不可省略;后接名词时,“of”可省略。

both可放在主语之后,可转换为both of …结构。
=Both of us passed the exam.
The students all arrive on time.
All (of ) the students arrive on time.
=All of us passage the exam.
We all passed the exam.
all of...:后接代词(us/them/you)时,“of”不可省略;后接名词时,“of” 可省略。
all 可放在主语之后, 可转换为both of …结构。
not both:表示“并非两者都”(部分否定,区别于“neither两者都不”)。
e.g. Not both of the films are interesting.
(并非两部电影都有趣,即“一部有趣,一部无趣”)
注意
not all:表 “并非全部都”(部分否定,区别于“none 全部都不”)。
e.g. Not all the students passed the exam.
(并非所有学生都通过了考试,即 “部分通过,部分没通过”)
