I arrived on a cold winter night, shaking and feeling tired. I searched for any kind of place to stay and found a small empty doghouse. Lying in it, I heard footsteps getting closer, but I was too sick to lift my head.
A family found me and stopped. Then I got wrapped (包裹) in a thick jacket, slowly and softly. A woman picked me up. She lowered her head, looking at me. I could see the worry and sadness in her eyes.
“Honey, dogs are everywhere in this area. We can’t save all of them.” said the man.
He was right. There were so many of us—homeless and forgotten.
The woman answered, “She can’t even stand up. How can we say no to such a poor little thing ”
The man thought for a moment. Finally, he agreed. They soon took me to a nearby animal hospital. I started to believe every dog has its day. But my body told a different story. My legs were broken and almost couldn’t move, my teeth were in bad condition, and my eyes became so cloudy that I could not see anything clearly. The animal doctor said I had heartworm (犬心虫病), and it was getting worse because of my age. He suggested letting me die naturally. “That will never happen,” the woman said.
After getting back home, she gave me a warm name—“Pretty Girl”—and cared for me like her own child, even making a soft bed for me in the safest corner of the living room. I ate real food, something I had never tasted. When I didn’t want to take medicine, she encouraged me and cheered me up.
Days went by, and now, look at me! I can run fast and jump high. My legs are strong and my eyes are bright. What a truly pretty girl! Every afternoon, I follow the family around the garden, watching over them. In the evening, my family always take me for a relaxing walk.
For me, winter nights are not cold anymore.

More than 50 years have passed since anyone set foot on the Moon. But soon, astronauts will return there with a new type of spacesuit (宇航服). Those old ones were really heavy and didn’t fit every astronaut well, especially for women. So, NASA has to make some changes to them for the first time in 40 years.
“The astronauts will find big improvements in these spacesuits,” said NASA engineer Carly Meginnis. The new suit has more joints (关节), especially in the lower part of the body. This will offer astronauts more flexibility to perform tasks like kneeling and walking (not “rabbit jumping”) on the moon. The gloves need to be protective and allow astronauts to do work as freely as possible. The new gloves have heaters (加热器) to keep fingers warm, since fingers become the coldest parts of body in space. Also, the spacesuit has a cooling system with water moving around to take away the unwanted heat. Another change is that the new helmet (头盔) provides a better view for astronauts. It even adds lights and an HD camera inside to take clearer videos.
There are still some problems that need to be solved. For example, it still takes up to four hours to put on the spacesuit, even with the help from their partners (搭档). Moreover, scientist hope that spacesuits will be able to be designed to help astronauts work together with robots in the future.
27.NASA made changes to the spacesuit because ________.
A.the old spacesuit was too expensive to make
B.the old spacesuit was not comfortable to wear
C.NASA astronauts needed more beautiful spacesuits

Being Alone
Do you like being alone Many people think being alone is bad, especially for children. Some parents believe children who like being alone are shy or not good at making friends. However, a new research from the University of California shows different ideas.
31 Children can learn a lot when they are alone. When they choose to spend time alone, they can think about themselves better. This helps them accept who they are. For example, they can do things like painting, reading or writing during that alone time. By doing these things, they know their feelings and likes more clearly.
32 They should be able to tell when they need their personal space and when they prefer to be with others. Also, knowing when to be alone helps children become more independent (独立的). This is really valuable for their growth.
33 Scientists made a simple test with 14 questions. For example, “Do you feel happier when you are alone ” and “Do you enjoy the quiet ” After you answer all the questions, you can count how many “yes” answers you have to know the result.
34 Children may be afraid of being alone. So parents should let their children know that being alone can really be good for them. In fact, it’s quite okay to be alone once in a while because it can give them a chance to think quietly or just relax.
A.How can we enjoy being alone

【原文】W: Welcome to Ears of Our School. I’m Tina from Class 4 Grade 8. Today I’m really excited to tell you all about my great trip to Germany.
Last winter holiday, I flew to Berlin, the capital of Germany. Spending twelve hours in the air wasn’t very comfortable, so I slept for most of the time. When we were in Berlin, it rained almost every day. But even with the rain, we still had lots of fun.
Around the city, there were Berlin Bears everywhere. These are cute cartoon bears, not real ones. Berlin is a city with a long history and has lots of old buildings and interesting museums. To visit as many as possible, we walked around the city without stopping. Unluckily, the Berlin Church was closed when we got there, so I just took a photo outside.
We also got to eat all kinds of delicious local food. The Berliner sausages were especially wonderful. I ate a lot during those days. Just thinking about that food makes me want to eat it again.
If you ever get the chance, be sure to visit Berlin. You are going to have a fantastic experience.
