The Intelligent Transport team at Newcastle University have turned an electric car into a mobile laboratory named “Drive LAB” in order to understand the challenges faced by older
drivers and to discover where the key stress points are.
Research shows that giving up driving is one of the key reasons for a fall in health and well-being among older people, leading to them becoming more isolated and inactive.
Led by Professor Phil Blythe, the Newcastle team are developing in-vehicle technologies for older drivers which they hope could help them to continue driving into later life.
These include custom-made navigation (导航) tools, night vision systems and intelligent
speed adaptations. Phil Blythe explains: “For many older people, particularly those living alone or in the country driving is important for keeping their independence, giving them the freedom to get out and about without having to rely on others.”
“But we all have to accept that as we get older our reactions slow down and this often
results in people avoiding any potentially challenging driving conditions and losing confidence in their driving skills. The result is that people stop driving before they really need to.”
Dr Amy Guo, the leading researcher on the older driver study, explains, “The Drive LAB is helping us to understand what the key stress points and difficulties are for older drivers and how
we might use technology to solve these problems.”
“For example, most of us would expect older drivers always go slower than everyone else but surprisingly, we found that in 30mph zones they struggled to keep at a constant speed and so were more likely to break the speed limit and be at risk of getting fined. We’re looking at the
benefits of systems which control their speed as a way of preventing that.”
“We hope that our work will help with technological solutions to ensure that older drivers stay safer behind the wheel.”
8 .What is the purpose of the Drive LAB
A .To explore new means of transport. B .To design new types of cars.
C .To teach people traffic rules. D .To find out older driver’s problems.

In the soft morning glow of a hospital bakery in Kunming, Yunnan province, the air is filled with scents: the simple smell of goji berries, the mild sweetness of jujubes (红枣) — all mixed
with the smell of freshly baked bread. As the first loaf, dotted with medicinal herbs, emerges from the oven, the line outside the door stretches down the hallway. This mix of traditional Chinese
medicine(TCM) and modern baking has turned hospital bakeries into the new hot spots for health-conscious youth.
Faced with health issues brought about by highly intense workdays and irregular schedules, they are increasingly paying attention to health management, but meanwhile, they refuse the
burden of expensive wellness. Many young people also embrace the concept of“food as
medicine”. Over the years, medicinal food products have gradually become an important
development direction and a new economic growth point in the health industry. TCM tea drinks and medicinal food restaurants have also mushroomed in the market.
As a group that is more willing to accept new things, Chinese youngsters are more open to new medicinal food products, experts say. The Generation Z Nutrition Consumption Trend
Report, released by a consulting institution, shows that young people are becoming the main force of health consumption in China. Those aged 18 to 35 account for 83.7 percent of health and
wellness consumers, the report says. They are enthusiastic about posting reviews of medicinal
试卷第 7 页,共 13 页
breads online, which has led to the popularity of topics like “new Chinese-style wellness” on social media and the increasing popularity of related products, according to the report.
However, issues behind the popularity of medicinal breads cannot be ignored. “Most
medicinal breads on the market do not clearly label the types and content of medicinal ingredients used, nor do they state any dietary restrictions,” says Zhao Yinghong, a medical expert at a
hospital specializing in Dai medicine in Xishuangbanna.
Experts warn that in the absence of clear standards for such health-focused breads,
consumers should approach foods labeled with TCM more rationally and not expect them to solve health problems. “This lack of professionalism in the area will not only mislead consumers, but
also weaken public trust in TCM in the long run,” Zhao adds.
12 .What is the main feature of medicinal breads
A .They are sold in the morning and by the loaf.
B .They are cheaper than other wellness products.
C .They are recommended by doctors as medicine.
D .They integrate traditional medicine with bakery.
13 .How do young people drive the popularity of“new Chinese-style wellness”
A .By buying large amounts of medicinal bread.
B .By sharing their experiences with medicinal bread.
C .By opening new medicinal food restaurants in cities.
D .By exploring related products using traditional herbs.
14 .According to Zhao Yinghong, what impact may the lack of standards in the area cause
A .Increasing public interest in TCM. B .A drop in consumers’ faith in TCM.
C .Growing attention to health management. D .An unstable health-focused food market.
15 .What is the author’s attitude towards medicinal breads
A .Supportive. B .Indifferent. C .Concerned. D .Objective.

Almost everyone procrastinates (拖延). Whether it’s avoiding an assignment, delaying
试卷第 8 页,共 13 页
house chores 、or putting off a visit to the dentist, we’ve all been there. The tasks you avoid aren’t always hard or time-consuming, but they may cause discomfort, leading to delay and a cycle of
guilt 、stress, and missed opportunities. 16
·Begin with bite.sized tasks.
One of the biggest reasons we procrastinate is that tasks seem too big or tricky. 17
When you break a task into smaller steps, it becomes much easier. For example, if you’re avoiding cleaning your room, don’t aim to finish it in one day. Instead, focus on sorting just one corner or
organizing a single shelf.
· 18
We often procrastinate on the tasks we find most unpleasant. Whether it’s an awkward conversation you need to have or a particularly tough assignment, putting off these tasks only increases anxiety. However, if you do them first in the morning, you’ll free up mental space to handle the rest of your day more smoothly.
·Use rewards to stay motivated.
19 One way to encourage yourself to tackle uncomfortable tasks is by using
rewards. Pair an unpleasant task with a desirable activity, or promise yourself a treat once the task is done. This method transforms the task into a stepping stone to something you enjoy.
·Apply the two.minute rule.
The two-minute rule suggests that if a task can be done in two minutes or less, do it
immediately. 20 For example, if you need to send a quick email, respond to a text, or wash a few dishes, handle it immediately. These small actions might seem insignificant, but they can
create momentum (动力) towards larger tasks.
A .Tackle your toughest task first.
B .Focus on the most challenging task.
C .It helps stop small tasks from piling up.
D .The trick is to begin with something simple.
E .A little external push is sometimes what we need.
F .Below are some strategies to help you conquer procrastination.
G .Undoubtedly, these negative feelings will cause your procrastination.

One afternoon, Emma and I were walking home from school, chatting about our day.
Emma, with her curious eyes shining, asked me about my friendship with Lucy. Without thinking, I said, “I only hung out with Lucy because she wanted me to, but I didn’t really want to be friends with her. She was kind of boring.”
Unluckily, I didn’t know Lucy was nearby. When I looked up, she was right there, having
heard everything. Her face turned pale, and her eyes got big with surprise. She didn’t say anything and ran off. Emma and I just stood there, feeling sorry and embarrassed. I knew I should go after Lucy and say sorry, but I was too shocked to move. Emma’s face turned red too. We walked home without talking, and it felt like our steps were getting heavier.
The next days were hard. I felt really bad about what I said and wanted to fix things with Lucy. I needed to say sorry. But what should I say Even though I didn’t mean to, I hurt Lucy’s feelings. Every time I saw her at school, I looked away quickly.
Then, something interesting happened in our speaking class. On Tuesday, Mrs. Julia said

we would do pre-class speeches. She had written our topics on small pieces of paper and put them in a box. We had to pick one without knowing what it was. I was a bit nervous. When I reached
into the box, I pulled out a paper that said, “Tell your most embarrassing moment.” My heart was beating fast. It felt like I was given a chance to make things right.
I spent the next few days practicing my speech, trying to find the right words to apologize to Lucy. I wanted to be sincere and show her I was sorry. When the day of the speech came, I was still nervous, but I knew it was important to face my mistake.
根据划线句上文“His videos have drawn much praise.(他的视频获得了很多好评。)” 以及下文中“In these videos, Liu acted like a hero of Chinese martial arts fictions,
