A robot hand built from Lego (乐高) pieces by a 16-year-old and his father can grab and move objects, displaying similar qualities to a leading robotic hand.
Jared Lepora, a student at Bristol Grammar School, UK, started work on the hand when he was 14 with his father, Nathan Lepora, who works at the University of Bristol.
The device borrows principles from cutting-edge robotic hands, including the Pisa/IIT SoftHand, but uses only off-the-shelf parts from Lego Mindstorms, a line of educational kits for building programmable robots.
The hand is driven by two motors, and each of its four fingers has three joints. A differential (差速器) made from Lego parts links the fingers so they move together until they touch something, then stop, similar to how we grasp objects.
In tests, the Lego hand successfully grasped nine household items, including a plastic cup and bowl, as well as a soft toy weighing 0.8 kilograms.
A single finger on the hand can close fully in about 0.84 seconds and open in 0.97 seconds —— around half as fast as a 3D-printed equivalent of the Pisa/IIT SoftHand using metal bearings. In fixed-position tests, a finger on theLego hand could bear 5 newtons of load and push 6 N of weight, and had 1.8 N of closing force. By comparison, the3D-printed version could produce 8 N of load-bearing force, 7 N of weight-pushing force and 2 N of closing force.
“You’ re never going to get a hand that's as good as a 3D-printed hand in terms of its capabilities with a hand made out of Lego,” says Nathan. The Lego hand is also much bigger: Each finger is 145 millimetres long and 30millimetres wide.
24. What makes the Lego hand particularly impressive
A. Its ability to grab heavy objects. B. Its similarity to human hand movements.
C. Its cutting-edge robotic technology. D. Its advanced design using simple materials.
25. Why does the author mention the numbers in paragraph 6
A. To prove the Lego hand's high speed. B. To highlight the Lego hand's limits.
C. To show the 3D-printed hand's force. D. To praise the metal bearings' role.
26. What is the author's attitude towards the Lego hand
A. Objective. B. Doubtful. C. Cautious. D. Optimistic.
27. Where can you probably find the text
A. In a science magazine. B. In a tourist guidebook.
C. In a physics textbook. D. In an official report.

The dawn chorus of birdsong has inspired poets and nature lovers for thousands of years, but the reason why birds start the day this way is a lasting mystery. Now, a series of experiments in zebra finches (斑胸草雀) suggests that while darkness prevents singing, birds build up a stronger motivation to sing in the night that causes them to burst into song at dawn.
Satoshi Kojima at the Korea Brain Research Institute in Daegu, South Korea, and his colleagues studied laboratory-raised zebra finches in carefully controlled lighting conditions to adjust the timing of light and dark cycles.
The team first pushed back the time at which the finches were exposed to sudden bright light to 3 hours later than the actual dawn. The birds were awake but stayed silent in the artificial darkness, and when the lights eventually did come on, the birds sang more intensely than usual. When the lights came on 3 hours earlier than true dawn, the birds still broke into a chorus, but without the same intensity as when they were forced to wait.
“The birds are already awake in the dark before the lights come on,” he says.“But their natural singing is held back by the darkness. This holding back increases their motivation to sing, leading to a high rate of singing as a rebound immediately after the lights are turned on.”
While this study only looked at one species, similar drivers may apply to other bird species, Kojima says. ButDiego Gil at the National Museum of Natural Sciences in Madrid, Spain, calls for caution. There are“numerous differences between species in how, when and what birds sing in the dawn chorus”, he says.“This explains why so many different explanations have been proposed to understand the phenomenon.”
28. What did the zebra finch experiments aim to discover
A. Where birds stay at night. B. Why birds sing at dawn.
C. When birds sleep most. D. How birds communicate.
29. How did the researchers carry out the experiment
A. By changing the timing of artificial dawn. B. By adjusting light strength in the lab.
C. By comparing darkness and dawn behavior. D. By recording songs after real dawn.
30. What does the underlined word“rebound” in paragraph 4 mean
A. Sudden drop. B. Delayed effect.
C. Rapid response. D. Repeated action.
31. What does Diego Gil suggest about applying the findings broadly
A. It is widely applicable. B. It needs careful thought.
C. It depends on species' habits. D. It ignores key differences.
D
Scientists from Swansea University have developed a new tool to help identify the best photovoltaic (PV)materials capable of maximizing crop growth while generating solar power.
In a recent study published in Solar RRL, academics from the University's Department of Physics have been exploring the effect of semi-transparent (半透明) PV materials placed over crops —— a successful application of agrivoltaics(农业光伏).
As part of this work, the team has developed an practical freeware tool that predicts the light transmission, absorption, and power generation of different PV materials nearly anywhere on the globe using geographical, physical, and electrical measurements. This is essential for finding the best balance between growing food and producing clean energy.
A key factor for refining agrivoltaics is selecting the appropriate PV material, which requires an understanding of how the material absorbs different wavelengths (colors) of light, as well as its bandgap. A wider bandgap means the material can absorb light that is higher-energy and has a shorter wavelength (blue), while a narrower bandgap allows the absorption of lower-energy, longer wavelength (red) light.
By carefully selecting PV materials with specific bandgaps and absorption properties, researchers can accurately control the“color” of light transmitted through semi-transparent PVs to hit the crops, which mainly absorb red and blue light to photosynthesize (光合作用), reflecting green light.
Project lead, Associate Professor Ardalan Armin, said,“By refining the combination of solar panels and agriculture, agrivoltaics has the potential to significantly contribute to the decarbonization of the agricultural sector. This approach not only generates clean energy but also enhances food security.”
Solar panels or PVs can be attached to the roofs of greenhouses and can also be used to provide shelter for livestock (家畜). In return, the livestock can reduce maintenance costs by eating vegetation around the panels. However, careful consideration of the type of livestock is crucial as some species, like goats, can jump onto the PVs and cause serious damage.
32. What is the main function of the newly developed tool
A. To increase agricultural production. B. To lower farming energy expenses.
C. To study global climate measurements. D. To forecast PV material performance.
33. What can researchers do to improve crop growth with light
A. Reflect green light to crops. B. Create light colors that suit crops.
C. Use PV materials with the right bandgaps. D. Change crop light absorption abilities.
34. What should be considered in using PVs in livestock farming
A. Minimizing maintenance expenses. B. Ensuring animal well-being.
C. Setting up physical barriers for the PVs. D. Avoiding animal damage to the panels.
35. What is the text mainly about
A. The study of advanced PV materials. B. Cost reduction through solar energy use.
C. A tool for boosting crops and solar power. D. New applications of solar panels on farms.

Four Things You Should Never Say to Someone Suffering with Anxiety
“Don't worry”
Never try to comfort someone with“don't worry” or“this is nothing”. Remember that they can't just choose worry or not. 36 . Better language includes simply telling them that you are here for them without trying to offer up solutions or expect them to pull through quickly. 37 .
“Man up; grow up”
38 .“Men feel anxiety, and that comment is very dismissive,” says Hafeez. The phrase“grow up” serves a similar purpose, she says, by telling someone that their anxiety is a product of their immaturity. What they need is your support.
“ 39 ”
Not only does this statement confuse stress and anxiety, it also tends to underestimate the feelings of the person.Axtell recommends that you let yourself be led instead by a gentle“curiosity”. Support the anxious person by asking questions and listening without judgment. Don't talk about your anxiety if you' ve never suffered the real thing.“Just relax”
40 . There are so many easy ways to relax. However, Axtell points out that the state of being unable to relax is a symptom of anxiety disorder. Telling someone with anxiety disorder to“just relax” is like telling someone with a cold not to sneeze. Axtell suggests acknowledging a person's anxiety without judgment and perhaps remind them of times when they felt more relaxed.
A. Yes, you can
B. I am stressed out, too
C. That's how anxiety comes about
D. So such kind of statement is impractical
E. From the outside, the solutions can seem simple
F. Also let them know if they don't feel like talking about it, that's okay, too
G. Unfortunately, some men are told that the experience of being a man doesn't include mental health struggles

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Saturday brought mixed feelings —— both hope and worry —— because of a notice in the library. When I got home, Dad saw the paper in my bag and asked,“What is it ”
“It's for a three-day science camp,” I said.“But Leo can't go.”
“Do you want to go ” Dad asked.“You always liked stars.” His words made me remember what Leo once joked,“You' re the one who knows about space. I still think Saturn's rings (土星环) are just circles.” I sighed. Dad put a hand on my shoulder. He knew I found it hard to go where I knew no one.“Maybe next time,” I said softly.
“Maybe,” he said. Then I told Dad I would go to draw the big tree in the park. He smiled and nodded.
Walking into the soft afternoon light, I kept thinking about the science camp. I wished I were braver. Leo could talk easily with anyone, but my heart beat fast when I met strangers... By the time I sat under the tree, I had decided not to go.
I began to draw the tree's wide trunk, then added its branches, showing how they spread wide. I was so focused that I jumped when Mr. Evans, the park keeper, spoke.“You draw this old tree well.”
“Thanks,” I said, looking up.
As I drew the leaves, Mr. Evans pointed at the branches reaching wide above us.“See how the branches grow outward ” he said.“The roots follow the same way. They spread sideways through the earth, not just down. That's how they find water and stay strong in the wind.”
He paused, letting his words hang in the quiet air. I looked from the branches above to my own drawing, then down at the grass beneath my feet.
“You notice things well.” With a final nod, Mr. Evans turned and walked away.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
His words left me deep in thought.

第一节
Dear Chris,
How are things going I'm writing to discuss with vou a phenomenon in our learning habits.
Recently, I' ve noticed that more and more classmates are using AI tools like Intelligent Q&A apps and AI writing aids to help with their studies. Some use them to explain difficult math problems, while others get help with English compositions.
In my opinion, these tools can be useful for solving problems quickly and improving writing skills. However, we should not rely on them too much. Real learning comes from thinking and trying on our own. It's important to use AIwisely, not to replace our own effort.
What do you think about using AI in study Looking forward to hearing from you.
yours,
Li Hua
第二节
His words left me deep in thought. Sitting under the ancient tree, Mr. Evans’ wisdom echoed in my mind. A tree grows not by staying in its comfort zone, but by daring to extend its roots into new territory Was I any different The science camp. once a source of anxiety now appeared as fertile ground where new connections could take root. Perhaps bravery wasn't about becoming someone else, but about allowing myself to grow in new directions. The afternoon breeze whispered through the leaves as I looked at my drawing. I realized every brave step begins like a root reaching into the unknown.
The next Monday, I turned in my application for the camp. The paper felt both light and significant in my hand.Walking to the office, I noticed my steps were steady, my breathing calm. When I handed over the form, the teacher smiled knowingly.“We' ve been hoping you'd join us,” she said. Her words watered the seed of courage that had begun to grow within me. As I left, sunlight streamed through the hallway windows, painting golden patterns on the floor —reminding me of starlight waiting to be discovered, and of roots ready to explore new ground.
