I can see a narrow path between two old walls. There are houses on both sides.
Yes! Two families had a problem about land. One family gave some land. The other family felt happy and gave land too. Now the lane is six feet wide.
Look at the picture and answer the questions.
They are beautiful and important . They show old Chinese life and teach us to be friendly .

In the Qing Dynasty, there was a famous family in Tongcheng, Anhui — the Zhang family. Zhang Ying was a Daxueshi in Beijing. He held great power.
The Zhangs’ house neighboured on the Wus’. There was a narrow lane between the two houses. The Wus planned to build their house and take up this lane. The Zhangs wrote a letter to Zhang Ying. They asked Zhang Ying to deal with this problem. Zhang Ying wrote back a few lines. He asked his family to give away their three feet of land to their neighbour.
The Wu family felt ashamed. They also gave their three feet away. This is why there is now the historic six-foot lane.
