定冠词的基本概念是“特指”,用于指说话人和听话人已知的人或事物,可与单数可数名词、复数可数名词或不可数名词一起使用。定冠词the的用法归纳如下:
1. 用以复述上文提到的人或事物(第一次提到用a / an,以后再次提到用“the”)。如:
Sarah found an interesting photo yesterday. The photo was her grandpa's. 萨拉昨天找到了一张有趣的照片。这张照片是她外公的。
2. “the+名词+介词短语”用来描述某个特定的人或物。如:
The girl with glasses is Amy's best friend. 那个戴眼镜的女孩是埃米最好的朋友。

16. “the+单数可数名词”表示一类人或事物。如:
The horse is a helpful animal. 马是一种有用的动物。
17. 在句型“动词+sb+介词+the+身体某一部位”中要用 the,而不用人称代词。如:catch / take sb by the arm 抓住某人的手臂,hit sb in the face 打某人的脸
18. 用在世纪或年代前。如:in the 18th century 在18世纪,in the 1960s 在20世纪60年代
19. 用于报纸、杂志、会议、条文、历史、时期、朝代等名词前。如:the Xi'an Incident 西安事变
20. 用在表示自然现象的名词前。如:

【拓展】
1. too … to … 可与 so … that … 互换使用,这时that后接的从句为否定句。如:

2. too … to … 还可与 not … enough to … 互换使用,这时两个结构中的“形容词 / 副词”通常为一对反义词。如:

3. in a … way意为“用……的方式”。如:
