Imagine this:a device(设备)that uses shadows to make electricity! It sounds like science fiction, but the new Shadow-Effect Energy Generator (SEEG) is a real, experimental device. This cool invention could change how we create clean energy inside our homes and schools.
So,how does it work? The SEEG uses the difference between darkness and light to produce electricity. It is made up of a series of thin strips of gold film on a silicon wafer (硅晶片),placed on top of a flexible plastic base.
Usually, shadows are a problem for renewable solar energy production. But this device uses shadows to help make electricity. The technology - which is cheaper to produce than a traditional solar cell (TSC),according to its developers -produces small amounts of power and could be used in a digital watch or other small gadgets.
"Shadows are everywhere, but we usually ignore them," said materials scientist Tan Swee Ching from the National University of Singapore. "In this work,we use the illumination contrast(光照差)caused by shadows as an indirect source of power. The contrast in illumination induces a voltage difference between the shadow and illuminated sections, resulting in an electric current. The idea of getting energy from shadows is completely new."
It's that contrast between shadow and light that really makes the SEEG device effective:under shifting shadows, the Shadow-Effect Energy Generator is twice as effective as traditional solar cells under the same conditions, the team discovered.
With passing shadows - caused by clouds or waving tree branches perhaps,or only the movement of the Sun -the device is able to produce enough power to run a digital watch.Through more research and effort, that could well be boosted in the future to satisfy more daily needs.
In the future, the more ways we have of producing renewable electricity, the more imaginative we can get with our gadgets, and the less we need to depend on fossil fuel (化石燃料)for energy production.Shadows can now be added to the list of new energy sources, with snowfall and the cold of outer space.
31.Why does the writer mention the traditional solar cell in Paragraph 3? ______
A. To introduce the good points of SEE
B. To tell the history of TS
C. To discuss the hard conditions of SEE
D. To solve the mystery of TS
32.Which word has the closest meaning to "boosted"? ______
A. encouraged B. improved C. practiced D. welcomed
33.The following paragraph can best go after ______ .
When the SEEG is completely in shadow,or fully in the light,it produces a very low amount of electricity,or nothing at all.
A. Paragraph 3 B. Paragraph 4 C. Paragraph 5 D. Paragraph 6
34.What can we learn from the passage about the Shadow-Effect Energy Generator (SEEG)? ______
A. It can be seen in a science fiction.
B. It has already been put into production.
C. It is more expensive than other electrical devices.
D. It changes the way renewable energy is produced indoors.

Nowadays more and more people have discovered the joy of DIY.It cannot only turn waste into treasure, but also develop your creativity. Moreover,it can make your boring time more interesting. Here's a simple way to build your own musical instrument with useless shoeboxes.
Required items:shoebox with lid,glue,4 to 6 rubber bands(橡皮筋),scissors.
Step-by-step guidelines:
1 Draw an oval-shaped circle on the lid of the shoebox,as shown in Figure A.You may want to go around a small plate with your pencil.Cut out the circle.

4 Stretch (延长) the rubber bands across the hole and over the fret,as shown in Figure C.Use rubber bands of different thicknesses and lengths to create different notes. The▲the band is,the higher the pitch (音高) will be.
So next time when you're bored at home after finishing your homework, try doing DIY with things around you instead of spending your time on boring short videos or computer games.
