As the music begins, a Sichuan Opera performer steps onto the stage, walking, kicking and dancing to the music while quickly changing face masks.
No one notices anything unusual until the last mask is taken off, and people realize that this performer is somewhat different.
Yin Qiuhua, a young performer, was born with Down syndrome Since she was found to have the disease at 6 months old, her mother, Zhao Haiying, has been looking for medical treatment for her and teaching her life skills.
They tried almost every training course in Peng’an county (县) in Nanchong city. But Yin didn’t do well in any of them.
“I can’t look after her for her whole life. My biggest wish is to find a skill for her so she can make her own living,” said Zhao, who gave birth to Yin at age 38.
Things began to change in 2021, when Zhao met Lin Chun, a traditional Chinese opera teacher at the county’s cultural centre. Lin agreed to teach her the face-changing art of Sichuan Opera.
The face-changing skill is difficult to learn for the average person, let alone (更不用说) for Yin, who can hardly communicate with others through speech and has limited (限制) learning abilities.
“What other kids might learn in one minute might take her 10 minutes, or even a day or a week,” Lin said.
After about 18 months of training, Yin made her first performance at an event in Nanchong. “The performance went very smoothly (顺利地), and Qiuhua received a lot of applause (掌声). Her mother and I were overjoyed and moved to tears,” Lin said.

Hey kids! Sleep is important! You might have heard this before. Scientists found out that sleep helps you grow strong and keeps you from getting sick. And guess what Sleep also works on your grades, a new study finds.
The scientist, Jeffrey Grossman, wanted to see how sleep helps students do well in school. He asked 100 kids from his class to wear a special wristband (腕带). This cool thing can tell how long you sleep and if you wake up (醒来) a lot during the night. The students wore these bands all term long, and in the end, Grossman looked at their sleep information.
“We found some interesting things. As expected, kids who tossed (翻转) and turned a lot at night didn’t do well on their tests. The same went for those who didn’t get enough sleep. ★ Whether you sleep more or less during the night before the test does nothing to your grades! So is staying up studying before the big test okay No!!! What really mattered was sleeping the same hours every night for a week or even a month before the test. That means a student who sleeps seven hours at night, every night, will do better than a student who sleeps 7.5 hours one night and 6.5 another night,” Grossman says. This was really unexpected!
How long you sleep, how well you sleep, and sleeping the same hours every night together made a big difference to the students’ test scores. And it appeared especially important for boys. Grossman’s team is not sure why. But boys who didn’t sleep well or slept at different times did worse on tests than girls who had the same sleep. These findings show that sleep is really important for doing well in school. And, knowing how to get good sleep can make a big difference!

C.While sleeping well comes first. D.So make sure you get enough sleep.
29.According to the study, which line chart (折线图) may be from the student with the best grades

Collecting History on Fridge Doors
Can fridge magnets hold 10,000 years of history Maybe someone can make it come true. Mei Qian became famous online because she collected the “10,000 Years of Huaxia” fridge magnet series.
Each magnet shows a relic (文物) from a different Chinese dynasty, from the Stone Age to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) . “At first, I just bought magnets as souvenirs,” Mei said. “After an exhibition, I had a new idea and I decided to collect magnets for every dynasty.”
Mei started to place them in historical order and wrote names and dates for each one. She made sure everything was correct and tried to make them look beautiful. “Each magnet became a small door into the past,” she said.
Mei didn’t stop at collecting—she also started making her own. Her favourite fridge magnet is a small version of a lacquer screen (漆器屏风) from the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534). The magnet is 9.8 cm tall and looks like a little piece of art. “I painted it by hand on wood,” Mei said. “I looked at real museum lights and official photos to get the right color.” Mei even asked people online, “Which version do you like better, the glassy or the matte (哑光的) ” She felt like being a real artist.
“Fridge magnets are small, fun and easy to understand. You can see a piece of history every time you get a snack from the fridge,” Mei joked. “You don’t need to read a long book—just one picture can make you curious.”
To middle schoolers, Mei shares her advice, “Start with what you love—dragons, pottery, paintings... Piece by piece, your collection becomes a story.”

描述年龄应用years old,five years old意为“五岁”。
advice意为“建议”,与后文“how to take care of”对应。
know意为“知道”,make sb. know表示“让某人知道”。
speak to sb. listen“听”、read“读”、write“写”均不搭配to sb.
