On Tuesday, Uncle Max called Tom, “Tom, I want to know if you’d like to go camping with me this weekend.”
Tom said, “I’m not sure, Uncle Max. What did you have in mind ”
“Well, I have to write a story about animals in danger for the paper. That’s why I thought it would be a good
idea if I went up to the mountains. I just won’t get a feel for nature if I stay at home in the city.” “Sure, I’ll go with
you,” Tom said. “Don’t forget your camera.”
“I won’t,” Uncle Max smiled.
On Saturday morning, Uncle Max and Tom got an early start. After they put up the tent(帐篷), they sat down to
relax. “It seems hard to believe that animals could be in danger in a place as beautiful as this,” Tom said.

These laws limit hunting.”
“How are animals in danger now ” Tom asked. “Some of their homes are being destroyed(破坏) by pollution.
Also, the land is being used for homes, farms and highways. That leaves less room for animals to live. So some land

Saturday, October 21st
I have arrived in the cool, beautiful city-Kaili. This is my first trip to Guizhou. All the different smells make me
want to try the food. I am going to eat something special for dinner tonight. The hotel I am staying in is cheap, and

Customs are greatly different across the world, and understanding these cultural differences helps with
cross-cultural communication. China, Britain, France, and Japan each have unique traditions worth noting.
In greeting customs, Chinese people usually shake hands firmly or nod politely when meeting someone new,
showing respect with gentle eye contact (交流). However, the French often exchange warm cheek kisses with friends,
while Britons prefer a light handshake and value personal space. Japanese people bow slightly, with the depth of the bow
reflecting the level of respect.
Regarding gift-giving, Chinese guests often present gifts wrapped in red (good luck) but avoid opening them
immediately. However, Japanese hosts open gifts on the spot (当场) to show appreciation . Britons and French
people usually give small, thoughtful gifts and appreciate a handwritten note more than expensive things.
Table manners are also different. Chinese people use chopsticks and avoid sticking them into the rice, as it’s considered
impolite. Britons follow strict table etiquette (礼 节 ), using knives and forks in order, while Japanese people say
“itadakimasu” before eating to thank the food. French meals emphasize (强调) slow enjoyment and proper conversation
during dining.
Respecting these cultural differences allows us to connect with others more harmoniously.
