Kids help parents do chores in the house. They may take out the rubbish, walk the dog or make the bed. In return, some kids get money or other rewards (报酬) from their parents. For example, some get 20 minutes to play computer games.
But some people don’t think that kids should get rewards for doing chores. One of them is Jane Smith, a parenting educator and family coach (教练). She believes if kids get rewards, they may think that work isn’t worth (值得的) doing unless they can get something in return. For example, kids won’t sweep the floor if they see it is dirty. But they will do it if their parents reward them for it.
“Every house is a team effort (努力),” Jane said. “A home is the living space for everyone in the family. It’s important for kids to see that we all have a responsibility (责任) to keep our home clean.”
Other people hold different opinions. They believe that money or other rewards encourage (鼓励) kids to do more chores. It also teaches them real world lessons. They can learn about how we need to work to make money.
Now, there are also apps that encourage kids to do chores. The apps give kids points and digital (数码的) gifts that can be used either online or in life. With the app ChoreMonster, kids get points after doing chores. Kids can exchange (交换) their points for real rewards such as time to play video games or a trip to the mall. “Our goal is to encourage kids so they can get rewards,” says Joe Black, the founder of ChoreMonster. “Kids need positive (积极的) power to make them do chores.”

There is an English saying, “A friend in need is a friend indeed (真正地).” Everyone has dreams and goals, and friends who stand by us are special and important. But should friends help us even when we’re making bad choices What if your friend wants you to do something wrong Confucius, a wise teacher long ago, said, “A good friend helps you do kind and right things, not bad ones.”
Here is an example: everyone has dreams, and it is a great thing to have friends to stand by us. But you also need to know who is truly helping you. How can we tell what kind of person someone is According to Confucius, just see what they encourage us to do. If they guide us to good things, they are true friends. But if they like bad actions, then you shouldn’t trust (信任) them.
Think about this: Your friend says, “Let’s play games all night.” It’s fun now but tomorrow you’ll feel tired and forget your schoolwork. A true friend would say, “Let’s finish homework first, then play for a short time. Tomorrow we’ll have lessons.”
Ask yourself:
1. Does my friend help me learn, share, or try harder
2. Do they laugh when I make bad choices
Good friends are like the sun—they help you grow. Tricky (狡猾的) friends are like weeds (杂草)—they pull you down. Choose friends who make your heart proud!
Remember: If a friend makes you do wrong things, say” No” and talk to a grown-up. True friends always want you to be better and better!
When you think about a friend’s influence (影响) on you, ask yourself: Do they help you become a better person Or do they make you do bad things

六、任务型阅读(满分10分,每题2分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
I love charity shops. So do many other people in Britain. It is because we can find them on every street. The charity shops sell all kinds of things and they are very cheap.
The first charity shop was opened by Oxfam in 1947. Now there are over 7,000 charity shops in the UK. My favorite charity shop in my hometown is the Cross Shop. There I always find children’s books, all 10 to 20 pence (便士) each. They are really cheap.
Most of the shop workers in charity shops are volunteers. Each shop has a manager (经理) and he gets some money. Every morning you see bags of things outside the shops. Some people bring and put them there without waiting for thanks. In fact, over 90 percent of the things in charity shops are from kind people.
All the money the shops get goes to charity work. Charity shops raise more than 110 million pounds every year. The money is for the sick and poor children, homeless and disabled people, and many others.
In a charity shop you can get cheap but nice things. You might even feel special while shopping. So if possible, let’s do something for charity together.
