At just 19 years old, Aki a Peters teaches at the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal College. He specializes in a
language that is thousands of years old, the Dakota language, spoken by the Dakota people.
“The Dakota language is the most important aspect of Dakota culture. Without it, our Dakota culture would no
longer exist.” Peters claimed. “I was lucky to grow up around many first-language Dakota speakers. But now the
elderly continually passed away and at the end of their lives, they just wanted to know their families would
continue to have the language. One of the problems our people have is finding ways to get at-length and ongoing
exposure (接触) to the language.”
Aside from instructing at the college level, Peters uses social media to share videos that combine humor,
culture, and basic-level conversation to help teach Dakota. In his free time, he visits Dakota elders. He also started
an online group of youth to converse and share the knowledge of the language in a safe and supportive space.
Aki a Peters wants to tell the youth that if they want to learn their own language, sit with their elders and learn
from them. Endless vocabulary sheets could discourage them from learning. Standards created by non-speakers
could also do that. “Within the next decade, I believe my colleagues, other Dakota-learning relatives and I will have
children and start a new generation of Dakota. I also hope my brothers and sisters will take the path we laid out for
them and continue to learn and speak Dakota. On my reservation there are numerous young people working on the
comeback of the language. I’m hopeful because I’m definitely not alone.” Aki a Peters told Teenvogue.
4. Why does Aki a Peters teach the Dakota language
A. To enrich his experience. B. To record its written form.
C. To prevent it dying out. D. To make it known globally.
5. What can we say about Aki a Peters according to Paragraph 3
A. Learned. B. Creative. C. Humorous. D. Cooperative.
6. What does Aki a Peters expect the young people to do
A. Deal with vocabulary sheets. B. Keep to the given standards.
C. Communicate with their elders. D. Learn from their teachers.
7. Which section of a website is the text probably taken from
A. Research. B. Business. C. Fashion. D. Culture.

Finding trapped people quickly is often the difference between life and death in rescue missions (任务) . New
robot tech is coming to the rescue. Imagine you’re trapped in a collapsed (坍塌的) building. Unable to move, you’
re forced to wait. Finally, something looks through the crack, and you find yourself face-to-face with... a robot
To some degree, we have to face our unavoidable disasters on our little blue planet. These calamities can range
from extreme weather events like hurricanes to other naturally occurring phenomena such as earthquakes and
volcanic eruptions. There are times when people suffer from intentional injuries, even resulting in death. And for
most wildfires, they are simply the unfortunate side effect of human activities. Regardless of the cause, for
centuries, humans have set out on search-and-rescue missions to save those left in a disaster’s wake.
But in the past few decades, robots have taken an increasingly active role in these rescue efforts. They have
battled their way through disasters. These mechanical rescuers can vary from ground to sea to aerial (航空的)
vehicles—including unmanned aerial vehicles that don’t just search through disaster areas for survivors, but
provide exploration from above. Beyond that, scientists across the globe are building new, creative types of rescue
robots.
Many projects still in development draw inspiration from the animal kingdom, mimicking (模仿) designs from
nature. These machines can move through difficult environments, from droids that look like snakes to a group of
autonomous bees. And while many are still years away from being used in actual disasters.
8. How did the author introduce a new way of saving during disasters
A. By using statistical data. B. By making a reasonable comparison.
C. By quoting tech experts. D. By creating an uneasy scene.
9. What does the underlined word “calamities” in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Buildings. B. Failures. C. Missions. D. Disasters.
10. What is the advantage of the rescue robots
A. They are able to increase very quickly in numbers.
B. They can carry out missions in different situations.
C. They would take the place of human completely.
D. They don’t have any side effects of human activities.
11. Where do the scientists get inspirations to make droids
A. The various animals. B. The science fiction.
C. The personal imagination. D. The bad environment.

In September, Shenzhen faced one of the most powerful natural challenges in its history — Super Typhoon
Ragasa. With wind speeds reaching 200 kilometers per hour and accompanied by continuous heavy rain, it stood as
the strongest storm to hit the city in decades. However, through careful preparation and quick emergency response,
the city showed its strong ability to recover while minimizing damage and keeping people safe.
The city’s weather service had been closely watching the storm’s path for several days before its arrival.
Authorities issued the highest-level red alerts a full 24 hours before the typhoon reached land, giving people
important preparation time. The city government put into action complete emergency measures, most notably the
“five suspensions” policy that temporarily stopped all work, education, business, market and public transportation
activities across the city.
The success of the response was mainly due to Shenzhen’s well-organized community safety network. More
than 20,000 community workers and volunteers carried out thorough door-to-door checks in risky neighborhoods.
Their well-planned efforts made possible the safe moving of about 300,000 residents from dangerous areas to
special emergency shelters. In one important case, emergency teams successfully moved 200 residents from old
living buildings just hours before the typhoon came.
During the typhoon’s worst period, the usually busy city changed into an unusually calm city scene. Public
places were empty, transport systems stopped working, and people stayed safely inside. Meanwhile, hard-working
emergency teams worked continuously through the storm, dealing with fallen trees, fixing broken power lines, and
handling local flooding.
The recovery after the typhoon moved forward with surprisingly good speed. Within 24 hours after the storm
passed, important public services had mostly returned to normal operation. This successful typhoon response
proved that facing nature’s powerful force requires both advanced city planning and shared social responsibility. As
one emergency management leader rightly said, “While we cannot stop typhoons, we can certainly build cities that
are fully ready to face them.”
12. What mainly made the resettling work so smooth
A. The weather forecast.
B. The community network.
C. The help from neighborhoods.
D. The emergency team members.
13. What did the “five suspensions” policy mainly require people to do
A. Move to other cities temporarily.
B. Stay indoors and stop all activities.
C. Prepare emergency supplies at home.
D. Help with the community rescue work.
14. What is the author’s main purpose in writing this passage
A. To warn readers about the dangers of typhoons.
B. To introduce the weather characteristics of Shenzhen.
C. To state the problem of lacking preparation for natural disasters.
D. To present a successful example of urban emergency management.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. The Formation of Super Typhoons
B. The Importance of Weather Forecasting
C. A Successful Battle Against Super Typhoon
D. A Touching Story of Fighting Against Typhoon
