Last Friday started terribly. First, my alarm
clock didn’t go off, so I woke up late and
had to rush to the bus stop.
I had a test that morning, so I was reviewing
my notes while I was waiting for my bus. All of a sudden, thunder rolled across the sky. Then it started to pour. The wind was too strong for me to use my umbrella!

heavy traffic. The bus was 40 minutes late. Then, when I got to
my neighbourhood, I suddenly slipped(滑倒)over on the ice
and broke my leg.
A: I’m glad you’re home safe at least. Tomorrow will be better,
I’m sure!
B: Thanks. I hope so.

I waited 20 minutes for the bus, but the storm caused heavy traffic, so it never came. I decided to walk to school. My umbrella broke in the wind, and soon I was wet and freezing.
While I was crossing the park, I stepped into a deep puddle
(小水坑)and my shoes filled with water! By the time I reached school, I heard the bell ringing. I was late! But when I entered my classroom, something surprising happened. My teacher smiled and said, “Don’t worry! The power went out because of the storm—no classes today!” Sometimes bad days bring surprises.
As a result, I went home. When I got home, my mother was
preparing a cup of hot milk for me. I told her about my bad day,
and she laughed and said, “Tomorrow will be better!”

There was a flood in the morning after two days of heavy rain. Mum woke me up around 6: 30 a. m. I saw the floor was covered with water and Dad was packing up things. We got out of the house as fast as possible.
It was still raining so heavily that we had to take a boat to reach the main road. All of a sudden, a strong wind came and the boat started to shake. Mum lost her handbag and I nearly fell into the water. After we got to the main road, we walked to my uncle’s home and stayed there that night. The next morning,the storm passed. We saw a mess as soon as we entered our home. But looking at each other, we realized although the house was in a mess, at least we were safe.
What luck on our unlucky day!

该结构为肯定形式表达否定含义。
The room is too small to hold ten people.

The problem is too hard for them to solve.
这个问题太难了,他们解决不了。
1. too... to...与so... that...的转换。
当that引导的从句为否定句,且主从句的主语一致时,两个结构可以互相转换。
She is too young to go to school.
=She is so young that she can’t go to school.
她太小了,不能去上学。
2. too... to...与not... enough to...的转换。
enough修饰的形容词或副词应是too后形容词或副词的反义词。
The problem is too difficult for me to work out.
= The problem isn’t easy enough for me to work out.
这道题对我来说太难了,我做不出来。
(3)在too... to...结构中,如果too前面有not、never等词,此结构表示肯定意义
You’re never too old to learn. 活到老,学到老。

by the time到……的时候
常用于引导时间状语从句。
1. 主句一般过去时+从句一般过去时
强调从句动作发生时,主句动作的结果状态。
By the time she woke up, her phone was dead.
她醒来时,手机已没电。
2. 主句一般过去时+从句过去完成时(had+动词的过去分词)
强调在从句动作完成时,主句动作已经完成。
By the time he came, I had cooked dinner.
他来的时候,我已经做好晚饭了。

表示结果,其后一般用逗号隔开。
表示原因,相当于because of,
后常跟名词、代词。
因为,由于

由“否定前缀un-+lucky(adj.幸运的)”构成。发音以元音音素开头,其前的不定冠词应用an。
