Chicago-based Jim Bachor is an expert in fixing up poholes (坑洼) on the streets by filling them up with his beautiful and strong mosaics (马赛克).
In fact, Bachor’s career as a pohole artist began with a trip to the ancient city of Pompeii in Italy, where he learned mosaic could remain for a long time, standing the test of time. The tour
guide pointed at a 2,000-year-old artwork and said that although it had gone through so many
years, the marble and glass pieces had not fadeD. The realization of the artwork’s staying power blew Bachor away. A few months later he was in Italy learning the secrets of ancient mosaic art and he pursued it as a hobby for a few years.
In May of 2013 he got the idea of applying his skill to fixing an annoying pohole in his
neighborhood. Bachor said. “There was a long-standing pohole right outside our house, which the city repeatedly filled with concrete, yet it kept reappearing.” So, what I did was that I created a
special piece of art for that pohole.”
However, creating pohole mosaics was quite different from doing them in the comfort of his own studio. For instance, it was challenging to protect them for a few hours before they
became firm. One day, while he accompanied his sons to their soccer practice, the training cones (锥桶) inspired him. Jim Bachor placed them around the pohole mosaics to act as temporary
traffic markers, guiding traffic around them.
Bachor started doing pohole mosaics in his neighborhood with many of his neighbors
coming to help him, and as his work started getting more attention, he even did some projects in other major cities.

Throughout all the events in my life, one in particular sticks out more than the others. As I reflect on this significant event, a smile spreads across my face. As I think of Shanda, I feel loved and grateful.
It was my twelfth year of dancing and I thought it would end up like any other year: stuck in emptiness, forgotten and without the belief of any teacher or friend that I really had the
potential to achieve greatness.
However, I met Shanda, a young, talented choreographer (舞蹈指导). She influenced me to work to the best of my ability, pushed me to keep going when I wanted to give up, encouraged me and showed me the real importance of dancing. Throughout our hard work, not only did my ability to dance grow, but my friendship with Shanda grew as well.
With the end of the year came our show time. As I walked to a backstage filled with other
dancers, I hoped for a good performance that would prove my improvement. I waited anxiously
for my turn. Finally, after what seemed like days, the loudspeaker announced my name. Butterflies filled my stomach as I took trembling steps onto the big lighted stage. But, with the determination to succeed and eagerness to live up to Shanda’s expectations for me, I began to dance. All my
troubles and nerves went away as I danced my whole heart out.
As I walked up to the judge to receive my first place shining, gold trophy (奖杯), I realized that dance is not about becoming the best. It was about loving dance for dance itself, a getaway

from all my problems in the world. Shanda showed me that you could let everything go and just

For the creatively minded, snow represents a large blank canvas (空白画布) for art. But often, it’s limited to snowmen or other snow statues. Simon Beck had a different idea, and over the course of a decade he has carved a path for himself in the snow art world. He creates large land art by walking across soccer-field-sized areas covered in untouched bined with light and shadow, his artistic designs can only be fully appreciated when viewed from above.
Beck, 59, a former map maker turned into a snow artist, thanks to his decision late in life to pursue his hobby.
“It started just as a joke one day really,” Beck explained. “After skiing one day, I decided to make a drawing on snow to have pleasure …”
“I really had no idea how good it would look when I made that first drawing, but it really went beyond my expectation.” he said of his first ever creation that he looked down on from a ski lift.
To create this work, Beck stepped his way through the snow using only snowshoes and a

Beck’s paintings have become a huge hit since his work was first shared.

Songwriting is a wonderful and accessible form of artistic expression that anyone can
enjoy. It’s like telling a story through music — sharing emotions and experiences in a melody (旋律). The beauty of songwriting lies in its simplicity and the freedom it offers to express oneself.
Start with a feeling. Whether it’s happiness, sadness or anything in between, let your emotions guide you. 33 , and let that be the inspiration for your song.
Next, find a simple melody. You don’t need fancy chords (和弦) or complicated

Eddie lived in a friendly town filled with music. Sharing the same passion for music, Eddie formed a band, The Stars, with his childhood friends Luis and Ruben.
One day, they received a letter inviting them to a local music festival a month away.
Excited, they decided to practise separately every day and then together once a week. But deep down, Eddie worried about their show because of Ruben, the guitarist. Although Ruben was a quick learner, he didn’t like to practise on his own at home. As a result, he often made a lot of mistakes due to lack of practice. This was a big problem for the band.
One week later, as scheduled, they gathered at the drummer Luis’s house for group
practice. But they had only played a few lines when Ruben started making mistakes. “Sorry. I ... I just ...” Ruben tried to make an excuse.
“You just haven’t been practising again. You are always like this! We need to practise
more; we are running out of time.” Luis’s face turned red with anger. Ruben also shouted back. Both boys stood locking eyes, full of tension. Eddie broke up the argument and calmed them
down. He turned to Ruben, asking why he didn’t play at home. “I don’t like to play music on my own,” Ruben confessed (坦白). “My guitar sounds lonely by itself. You know I have trouble
focusing on things.”
That night, Eddie’s father asked how band practice was going. Letting out a frustrated sigh, Eddie told him what had happened, saying they were considering replacing Ruben. His dad
listened quietly, and then offered a simple suggestion, “Instead of practising the same song alone, why not figure out what helps Ruben focus ” Not wanting to lose Ruben as a band member or as a
